it would probably take years of subtle changes in their message so that it didn't come as a big shock.
Mention this to any JWs and I'm pretty sure their response would be 'they'd never tell us that!' rather than 'I'd never do that if they told us to!'
Just the fact that they think we're all going to die any day now makes my skin crawl. You can't get much colder than believing that, AND at the same time being happy about it. They can't wait for the big day, and I don't ever remember any of them being distraught at the thought of six billion humans dying around them.

Now we're left with just a few that people still believe in, one that started it all off or helped guide human development- the monotheistic god.
Science is showing us (and humans are taking notice, little by little) that we don't need any god to explain what we see around us.
But seeing as so many people want/need to believe in something greater than themselves, I wonder if the religions like Scientology and Raelian will end up being the dominant ones in a few hundred years. People will have faith in aliens, rather than gods.
It's too early to say for sure, but it seems a plausible idea to me. Religions change with the times. If god belief is on the way out, could humans feel comfortable without any higher power to look up to (as I hope will happen), or will alien religions move in to the spaces left by their demise?

Our species is so young, immature and selfish that I don't think any aliens would want to meet us yet. If they know of our existence, they're most likely waiting for some big changes.
300 years ago, we didn't even know all the continents on our planet. The majority of humans believe an invisible man in the sky made everything and/or controls our fate. We still fight each other on a daily basis. Most of us are too concerned about our tiny insignificant (in terms of galactic events) lives to ever see the big picture.
Once our species grows up, then we may be worth contacting. Right now, I'd be too embarrased.

God gave them this message, who are we to question God, it is God's test just before Armageddon, Abraham was tested too, even if we don't understand - God does, they will only be dying at Armageddon anyway, if anyone worthy of paradise is killed accidentally they will simply be resurrected, and so on.
HOW they manage to convince people isn't the issue here, I'm just interested in whether people here think JWs could actually kill for their religion. I honestly think they would. They have been brainwashed enough already to give up their lives and their children's lives if it meant taking blood. Those sitting on the fence would probably leave, but the rest could be turned into murderers if the WTBTS wished it.
Remember this isn't about what will happen. I don't think they'd ever do such a thing. More about what COULD happen if those in charge decided to set the plan in motion.

hi, this is very long, sorry, but i need to talk to someone about how i feel.. i'm not a jw although for a short time i studied with them back in 1984 along with my younger sister.
my sister became a jw in 1984 and about that very same time i accepted jesus christ as my savior, but did not become a jw as i disagreed with some of their teachings.
i did and still do attend the church of god.she has four children.
On the matter of the porn, you certainly are entitled to your opinion about there being a god who doesn't like it.
But your other reasons don't support you. Addiction is bad, to anything. People can be addicted to porn, just as they can become addicted to sport, alcohol or eating. But if someone had one drink, you wouldn't be afraid of them becoming an alcoholic. If they ate one cake, you wouldn't worry that they would turn out to be a glutton. One porn link is not reason to believe there is a risk he will become addicted to porn.
Also, you are wrong in thinking there is a link between porn and sexual abuse. Can someone who looks at porn become an abuser? Yes. You wrote:

But seeing as millions of people look at porn and don't go on to abuse others, the idea that there's a link between the two is as impressive as thinking there is a link between someone who sleeps on their back and then goes on to abuse someone.
If he's happier without it, that's wonderful. But it's only wonderful if the choice is his.
As for speaking on political matters and feeling the world is a negative place at times, probably only if he considers suicide or hurting others would I worry about that kind of talk. I personally find it theraputic to get things off my chest if they bother me. Keeping it in won't do him any good.

While I sympathize with your family troubles, believing your son was talking dirty and looking at porn because he was depressed is ridiculous. That kind of thing is completely normal and making him feel bad about it will only stunt his development, or force him to lie to you.
The part about your sister 'coming across' her son's chat logs shows the lack of privacy a kid gets in a JW home. You have to deliberately dig to find that kind of thing.
do you care if tom cruise is a scientologist?
or that mitt romney is a mormon?
or that a person is either a very devout muslim or a card carrying communist?
Much of what I think about it has been covered by those who believe the religion of a person matters.
On the subject of celebrities, while their beliefs don't affect me, it bothers me to know things like Tom Cruise may be brainwashing his children to believe in such rubbish. Look how the cult of Mormon grew- by being passed down through the family line. In 100 years, there may be people in places of power who believe aliens are involved with our fate.

The similarities between them all is astonishing. Once you grasp that, and understand why they exist and where they came from and that they are all true, a whole new world opens up.
How can they all be true when they make incompatible claims?
Do you believe they were all inspired by a god, or that they're a result of our inbuilt desire to know a god, or something else?
