"guided" divorces

does anyone know anymore about this kind of "guided" divorce?

Is interference in the marriage arrangement really that common? I know of a couple of guys who behaved horribly towards the significant others because the significant others "threatened" the organizations authority over the relationship. Of course, those men voluntarily stepped up and behaved like idiots because their ladyfolk weren't going with the program.

It wasn't directly organizational interference but it was a result of the organization. I guess I know it's true but it's still so hard to stomach.

MAJOR ALERT - UN 2nd LETTER on WTS/NGO

on january 24, 2002 the interim head of the department of public information responded to my letter requesting disclosure of the watchtower file.

even though dpi still refuses to give me the file, they did present some more facts on criteria for association.

also dpi provides what their dpi committee alerted the wts too in the committee's 1992 letter of accreditation to the wts.. there was a delay in posting due to the fact that the dpi sent a wrong brochure to me that accompanied the letter.

It wasn't the library card, it wasn't the changing criteria of the association... hmmmm.... why the affiliation then?

Maybe the devil made them do it.

Passive agressive behavior- a common JW trait?

i'd like to ask a serious question about passive agressive behavior and witnesses.

i know a variety of non-witnesses who are passive aggressive in their behavior so this is obviously something of a attitude that anyone can have.

but i was curious to find out if people think this behavior is common among witnesses?

Andi, I realize this isn't something unique to witnesses. What I am asking is if people feel that a) passive agressive behavior is common among witnesses that they know and b) if they feel that the dynamics of the group possibly contribute to passive agressive behavior.

I'm interested because I was thinking about this quite a bit lately. I guess you could say I've recently bumped elbows with this sort of behavior and I was wondering if others felt that the group might have something to do with fostering that type of behavior because other forms of expression might be discouraged. It's not scientific, I just want a few perspectives.

i'm pulling this out of the original thread since people are blowing by this as if it were nothing.. the blue portion appears on page 17 of the june 1, 1991 watchtower, in the article titled their refuge--a lie!, which criticizes "christendom" for seeking help from the united nations rather than jah.. .

"prayer, meditation and spirituality at the un are fascinating subjects.

A sickening example of religious vampirism

the link below leads to a webpage for a play entitled it's not too late: a christian drama/musical inspired by the columbine tragedy.. here is the synopsis of the play:.

the story takes place during one day at a high school.. .

mr. brooks is the custodian of the high school.

I'm definitely not in the "it's a great story" camp. In my opinion it's a disturbing emotional manipulation of a horrible tragedy.

Believing in jesus was not a prerequisite to being shot at Columbine. The killers did not pose that question to each and every victim prior to opening fire. Cassie was not killed because she took a stand for Jesus- at least, it's highly unlikely that that was the cause because it's not consistent with the other thirteen(?) killings that took place that day. Sadly, Cassie may have drawn attention to herself due to her proclamation that resulted in her death- maybe, maybe she would have been killed either way. We don't really know.

I love how people justify exploiting a tragedy to further their own cause. Very nice.

needed to be circumcised like the jewish christians already were.

only about the circumcision issue but also on whether the gentiles were.

Another thing mentioned was the apostles (Known as the governing body)...

I still can't get past this statement. Where in the bible are the apostles known as the governing body?

I'm guessing he means that the Watchtower's governing body was created as a modern day emodiment inspired by the apostles well, ummmmmm, sure. Whatever.

Of course, I'm trying to imagine the apostles taking a hand-count to determine if they've got the majority so they can get rid of circumcision.

I've read both of Hassan's books ("Combatting Mind Control" and his second book "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering people to think for themselves").

"Releasing the Bonds..." is his most recent book. It touches specifically on Jehovah's Witnesses whereas his earlier book does not. I believe he credits Randy Watters with drawing witness issues to his attention, if I recall correctly.

Very interesting insights. I recommend both but if you have to choose between the two pick "Releasing the Bonds..."

priests in the news why not JWs?

the big headlines in the phoenix paper are about the priests in tucson.

"church hid abuse, victims say".

it was covered over and the priests were moved around and promoted.

It's all over the news here in Boston. Every day another story. The news outlets are completely frenzied on the archdiosese cover-ups. It seems unlikely that they would shift focus at this point to a much smaller sect. The best bet to get in the papers here is to find a columnist with conservative or pro-Catholic leanings and get word to them. Even then, it'd probably look to much like trying to shift focus to save face so I doubt there would any takers in these parts at the moment.

Though I hate to say this, it's all about the spin you put on your argument. In my opinion, the key factor in getting the public's attention and outrage is to focus on the fact that known pedophiles are being sent to their doors. Of course, not every witness is a pedophile but you'd have to introduce the concept of "is this person at my door a known or alleged pedophile" into the public's awareness.

It might be difficult to get the media attention that the issue deserves right now, especially in areas where Catholic pedophilia scandal is getting the exposure. However, I still think it's good to keep trying regardless.
