Intolerance - a new breed of ex-JW
by LittleToe in.
i cant help but think of the analogy of pendulum swings when i think about how vitriolic some are towards religion (of any description), the bible (and other scripture), and christianity (generally, regardless of there being a wide range of denominational flavours) in particular.. it seems to me, from my perspective of sitting here on a remote scottish island, that there are a fair number of folks who may have left an intolerant and generalising religion but forgot to leave those attitudes with it.. just my 2p, coz to be frank i'm getting sick of it.. by all means enjoy some self-expression, it's a relatively free planet, but have a heart....

True, LT. A cheap shot is a cheap shot, no matter who makes it.

I think it's a natural fallout from having had religion and bible stuffed down their throats for most of their lives. I liken it to kids that have been kept on a short tether until they go away to college and then all hell breaks loose for a while till they get it out of their systems.
Most of the anger shown is toward the WTS, its doctrines and some of its heartless adherents in local KHs, which I'm sure you will agree, are deserving of the most scathing criticism. And for many of us with family still left in the org, we have the ongoing pain of their shunning tactics--it's very difficult to be generous and balanced with daily reminders of intolerance shown towards us.
LT, I hope you can overlook the language and attitudes of some here and see the hurt that causes those responses. I for one, enjoy your comments and the spirit of kindness that underlies them. -

You poor kid! It's decision-time for you--will you stay under your parents' protection (and their rules) or take the leap? Only you can decide whether you're ready. Your fears are justified--it's not easy in the real world; there are no guarantees that everything's going to work out OK. On the other hand, you have a good job, a sympathetic bf, more than many have when they start out on their own. And if not today, then someday, you will have to decide to be the grown-up in your life. Best of luck to you!

Using these phrases to prove a point would earn a college freshman a failing grade in a basic composition 101 paper. Words and phrases like these are called "weasel words," sometimes used by college freshman to bolster an otherwise weak assertion. College students are taught that a well-written argument will stand on its own merits without the need to resort to empty persuasion tactics.
And any college student that uses the phrase, "scholars have said," in a paper without providing detailed documentation of the sources would be reprimanded for sloppy scholarship. -

There's no need to defy the WT. They are their own worst enemy.

Nothing they didn't want me to know.

They loved gossip, backbiting, and mediocrity.

Are there not enough anti-Witness books out there?
by free2beme inevery once in awhile i will read comments about someone thinking a new anti-witness book needs to be written, to expose something.
well, recently i took the time to look over the search engines of the internet and found something interesting.
when you type in "jehovah's witness" or "watchtower", you found almost 3 to 1, negative sites and information on the witnesses.

***Yet, the society will not be brought down with a publication on them, unless the whole world suddenly became interested in this tiny religion.***
Who said anything about bringing down the society? My point was that anti-JW books with up-to-date information have the potential to help those who are thinking of joining or leaving the WTS. If a book helps bring just ONE person out of that cult, it's certainly well worth having been written.
***...unless the whole world suddenly became interested in this tiny religion. If that happened, and people started turning on them, then guess what ... your fulfilling a prophesy they have long since wanted and now it makes them stronger.***
In spite of all that's been written exposing the corrupt underbelly of the WTS (and there's been some really scandalous stuff revealed), the "whole world" has not stopped in its tracks to focus on the JWs. There are plenty of even more vicious groups out there to compete for that kind of attention. If the WTS ever does fall, it will collapse from within under the weight of its false prophecies and hate-mongering doctrine.
