Thanks for your story Burn, I believe I know what you mean by your 'indescribable Experience'
It is amazing to 'see' Jesus without the WT fliter!

Fear of conflict, confrontation, disagreement- A leftover from our JW past?
by nvrgnbk inthere's alot being said on here now about the need for everyone to get along.. i used to think that was a goal worth striving for.. but is it realistic?.
is it even desirable?.
i still find myself telling people what they want to hear, on here and in my personal life, in business too.. it's a bad habit.. it generally produces nothing positive in the long run.. but we all want to please others.. that comes from being jw's, but it's by no means unique to our our jw past.. another thing, definitely jw-related, is that we were taught that unity should be preserved at all costs.. comments are even made on here that our "community" is "falling apart".. all we share in common is that we were or are jw's (with a few exceptions).. and our reasons for no longer being associated are many and varied.. some left on their own.. some "drifted away".. some were kicked out.. some studied but dodged the bullet and were never baptized.. some are now atheists.. some are now "spirit-filled" christians.. some don't care about religion or politics.. some care alot.. to expect unity and "we all love each other" from such a diverse group can only lead to disappointment, imo.. i want to thank hillary-step, and few others, for pointing something like this out to me a long time ago.. many of us have made good friendships here, but it's fair to say that we're not all going to be friends.. .

Disagreement is a wonderful thing! A thing of beauty! I love it. :)
Confrontation can be very important, when used in the right situations.
Conflict... I'm not so sure that's ever necessary.
This was the first message board I ever used, since I decided to post on it as a doubting JW, and previously, I would have seen message boards as worldly association. So, in the early days, I used to get annoyed more often, which I think was my lack of experience, then, I started to visit a few other forums, and learned a lot more about the way message boards work. They're completely different social scenes to face-to-face ones, and should not be treated the same, people do act differently, and it's much harder to understand intent when you can't read tone or body language!
Like the Jehovah's Witnesses say, we're all imperfect, and will make mistakes, especially in the way we treat people we hardly know! (And we do hardly know most people on here)
It would be nice if everyone got along, but it isn't realistic, and if we expect it, we'll be disappointed. If you want everyone to get along, just be nice to everyone, and that doesn't have to mean, agreeing with everyone! :) -

God Is Love
by nvrgnbk ingod is love.
after reading articles such as "the cosmic shell game", "divine blackmail", or "an almighty screwup", obvious objections arise.
maybe each religion has some part of the truth, so that there is no one single right faith, but many.

John 12:32 But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself."
Romans 11:32 For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.
Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
1 Timothy 4:10(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. -

About "dawg" and growth...
by changeling ini only checked in here briefley yesterday and missed dawg's "good-by" thread.
i posted there just now, but don't know if he is checking in any longer.. many of you realize he and i have had our differences.
in fact, is was after a "cyber-fight" with me that he left the last time.. when he returned, he pm'd me several times just making nice, brief little comments on things i'd post.

I don't see any patronising from Changeling... I thought it was a nice post. Reading the pain of so many people leaving the Organisation for different reasons and reading how they faced hate from their loved ones in the Witnesses for taking different paths has taught me a lot about tolerance and love, I could see how reading this board regularly could make someone more empathetic.
Dawg was a good poster. :) Shame to see him go. -

Do you think DOCTRINE matters to most JW's? Did it matter to you?
by nicolaou inthere's so much 'new light' coming out recently but i wonder if any of it really hits home to the average dub.
i think a good deal of those who leave do so because of a lack of real, honest love.
they get sick of the judgemental attitude and the continual grind.

Since they can't depend on love to prove it's the truth, they have to use doctrines to convince people I guess.
I've heard lots of Jehovah's Witnesses say they know it's the truth, when asked why, it's always something doctrinal, I've never known one of them, not one of them, to say 'Because of the love we have' which I find interesting, since Jesus said that's how his followers would be recognised.
It was the false doctrines that did it for me as well. -

ATHEISM - Better World When Christian Are Gone?
by writetoknow instereotypes and prejudicessynopsis.
genocide is the ultimate expression of hatred and violence against a group of people.
this chapter traces the steps by which a group becomes the target of prejudice, discrimination, persecution and violence.

Deserter, though I'm not an atheist, I enjoyed reading your post. I thought it was quite balanced.

JW's are the biggest hypocrites ever!!!
by lovelylil inso this is the deal.
i am completely fumming mad over this.
you all know how the jdubs do not associate with worldly people and are always saying that the "worldly" people will be destroyed and only jw's are worthy to live.
-
Zico
I think it says more about the Congregation that's forced her to go to a Worldly Organisation than the sister itself, but I don't disagree with you that it's hypocritical.
She's certainly lucky that the Worldly Organisation she's seeking help from don't care about her religion as much as her own religion cares about others. -

They keep family together?! Bull*&^!
by 4mylove ini always found it so strange (at least till i started posting here) that when my hubby told his parents about me the first thing he was instructed to do was speak to the elders.
i thought to myself, shouldn't he be speaking to his parents.
i was doubly hard because when he told them about me, we were living together!
-
Zico
Bull*&^ is the right word 4mylove.
Like your family, that religion is tearing apart my family, it makes itself the basis for every relationship one can have, and any relationship built around a middle man is doomed it failure. Disfellowshipping looms for me and my sister, and as it draws closer, the tiny thread that's holding us to our family gets ever smaller.
Bull*&^ indeed. I despise that religion. -

Are they a cult?
by TooBad TooSad inat a recent one day assembly the following remarks were made by elders who had parts:.
"the watchtower is the main instrument that jehovah uses to instruct his people.".
( i wonder where the bible fits in?
-
Zico
The Watchtower Society is a faceless entity that controls every relationship a member can have. This Organisation, which doesn't actually care at all about one of the members, is also the very basis for each members relationship with their family, their friends, and even their God.
Make a mistake, or dare to think for yourself, and this Organisation will discard you without a second thought or any concern at all, and everything you have is lost, you will have no more friends, you will no have more family, and you will have no more God.
If that's not a cult, I don't know what is.
