I was afraid that would cause a stir. Unfortuately it was not the one I intended. I'll try to respond to everyone one at a time:
Gumby: If there was anyone I want to be friends with, it's you. I'm afraid I inadvertanly gave you the wrong impression about me. Yes, I want the watchtower war-machine to be defeated, I agree with you. I was just trying to say that here on JWD, just because we all dislike the WTS, doesn't mean that we all think the same way. We happen to disagree on one thing, that's okay with me. I still respect you and think you're very insightful. As for my attitude, I hope it reflects that of Jesus.
Mcsemike: Thank you for understanding me. It's not that there's anything un-truthful or insincere on this thread, I just want us to re-examine what we take for granted about the elders. After all, isn't that why people leave the watchtower in the first place? Of course they're going to lie about the shunning, what would we expect them to do? The truth is not exactly an attractive sales pitch for the WTS, you of all people know that.
Silversurfer1: You're right. Some of the elders decide completely on a whim how much a person has repented, or how much love is in their heart.
Heathen: I'm aware of what this site is dedicated too, that's why I joined. Of course I wouldn't pretend to support those who exit, I didn't mean for you to think that. I would never belittle your pain at the hands of the WTS, in fact I admire you for disagreeing with me. I only meant that it wouldn't kill us to be a little more open minded sometimes.
In conclusion, I'm very sorry for annoying some people. Please don't get offended on my account, I realize my optimism can be infuruating sometimes. So, yes the watchtower is a twisted cult that needs to be disbanded, but I'm sure another one will come to take its place just as fast. It is not worth our lives.
Peace everyone,
Anitar

Another Deceitful Tactic by the WTBTS.
by gumby inas most informed jehovah's witnesses know, the wtbts is very good at painting a pretty picture of themselves by cleverly wording things to outsiders, yet not revealing the specifics of their beliefs.. below is an example from their official website regarding whether or not they shun members who choose to leave them.
they do not tell the public of the interogation they impose on members who wish to quietly leave ( fade ).. notice they mention how they are more than happy to restore those who exit, but fail to mention the types of questions they ask to those who leave them.. while they admit they shun those who verbally express they no longer wish to be a jehovahs witness, they do not tell the public they coerce that very statement from those who try to leave peacefully and quietly.

Ok everyone. I'm nobody special, and I have not nearly as much knowledge as everyone else. But I'm going out on a limb here, so don't hate me.
I think it's time for a reality check. So they're using an age old BS story for the public, a feeble attempt to save their rapidly crumbling "religion" by reaching out to the Google-happy youngsters looking for the latest fad on the internet. They shouldn't be debated, they should be PITIED!
I realize that articles like this are meant to inform the lost, lonely, and disfellowshipped from the WTS. But this can only take them so far. There has been some pretty heated discussions, particularly with former elders. But the truth is, elders are nobody special. Honestly. The dubs might worship them and call them educated, but that just means they're more brainwashed than the dubs. And I know you all know this already.
The WTS teaches that ex-members are "bitter, empty, soul-sucking aposates knashing their teeth because we abandoned the truth." I think the best way to prove them wrong is to not give them the pleasure of debating them. If you give the watchtower an inch, they will become a ruler. The point is, the watchtower is a cult, but do we really want to become the anti-watchtower cult?
Call me crazy, but what if we could be our own support group? Maybe we could use this forum as a means to change people for the better, to be living examples of Jesus Christ without the burdons of man's rules and twisted organizations.
Well, that's enough of my ranting. Sorry for ruffling the feathers, I just don't want us to be bitter anymore.

Ok. Hypocracy and plagerism: not exactly a foreign concept in the Watchtower.
However, how does this affect us, because we don't actually know these people anyway, right? Did I miss something?

Charming. It sounds like they thought there was alot of newcomers, when actually it was just limited seating. And the fact that 3000 people who traveled at their own expense were left without a seat didn't phase them at all?
Talk about dense!

Thank you Upand Atom. I came to these conclusions after researching at great length with my psychology professor, and the she says the Watchtower uses an old formula of thought manipulation called implantation, similar to the techniques used on the POWs in Japan in WW2.
Think about it. As a JW, do you really have freedom of speech/thought? The say you do, but only within the sphere of influence of the watchtower. Any thoughts?

Bible study turns tragic two dead
by DannyHaszard in2 kids drown in qc pool

a bible study turned tragic for two children after they drowned while swimming in a pool at the watchtower compound of the jehovahs witness in roosevelt ...

How awful, maybe if they were spending time with the kids, instead their heads were lost in clouds of fantasy of the watchtower. Some might say they are better off dead than growing up as one of them, but I'm not sure. I believe people are people, as a witness or not.

Do you hide you JW family's practice of shunning from non-JW family?
by kwintestal ini thought of this question as i've been talking to different family members about the situation with my parents and grandmother.
i wondered if they'd get upset by me telling other non-jw family members what was going on.
i recently told a family member in coventry who i'm sure will end up telling my grandmother's sisters.

This may come as little comfort to the ones who are shunned, but believe me, your better off without them. By their fruits you will know them. You would not eat fruit that expired in 1975 would you?

SHOULD I PIONEER OR COLLEGE?
by stillAwitness indo you think the wt has become more lenient or stricter over the year?.
i am 21 and i remember just 4 years ago going to college was looked at as something negative.
girls my age, we had plans to be ft pioneers and become secretaries.

College, like everything else in this world (except the watchtower) is what you make of it. If you want a degree, you must work to get it. The ability to make yourself better than you are is a foreign concept as a Jehovah's Witness

You should try changing your name, identity, and you might want to leave the country. It seems like the only dignified way to leave the watchtower.
Lots of love,

To UpandAtom:
Yes, the WTS has it all backwards, but they know what they're doing. Think about every magazine you ever read, and every meeting you ever attended. Of course, they reference their bible many times, and give the appearance of divine wisdom, but you have illustrated a brainwashing tradition that reaches back almost 100 years.
Everytime the WTS is handing down new instructions, setting dates for armageddon, making excuses for no armageddon, or any thing else, they always compare their motives and solutions to the BIBLE or people who lived in biblical times. This delivers a VERY POWERFUL subliminal message, meaning that every direction from the "slave" is directly from God.
Now, by comparison, everytime they give advice/dictatorship on how to live, what to read, what to wear, what to think, and who to talk to, THE WTS ALWAYS compare the rank and file to either animals or inanimate objects. This subliminal message means that thay can't think for themselves, human nature is oversimplified to the level of a dog, and that the rank and file really are no more than cattle.
Don't believe me? Take a look at the back cover of the May 15th 2006 Watchtower, there's an article about how women are exquisite as a Tiffany lamp, and every bit as much a man's property.
This repetitive oversimplification takes its toll on the psyche, until eventually the dubs believe their problems really are no more complex than an ox. This mentality comes in handy later when shunning is involved. It's all part of the WTS brainwashing. Please write back and say what you think.
