Just in climate science there are several. Both pro and con and con anthropogenic global warming.
So which ones where silenced, fired, or shunned by their colleges?
All I am saying is that the grant process is very political and someone with a minority or unpopular scientific view will not get funded.
Well YEAH! Same as the unpopular brand of car will not get bought. If the science doesn't work, why would we fund it?
But in fact, BOTH sides of the global warming debate have HUGE support.
If all you're saying is that some scientists get ignored when they don't have evidence, then I'm with you. But I fail to see how that's a bad thing...

Examples?First of all, this is NOT the same. Being fired is a lot different from being shunned by your family. And not being allowed to talk to people.It is similar in many respects, it is an effort to silence a dissenting voice, for whatever reason.

of their position and openly ridiculed amongst their colleagues. Same thing, different venue.
First of all, this is NOT the same. Being fired is a lot different from being shunned by your family. And not being allowed to talk to people.
Second of all, the only time a scientist would be fired for disagreeing, is if the guy wasn't following the scientific method. But if his theory fits all the available evidence, this would not happen.
This is the same as ANY line of work. If you don't do your job RIGHT you'll get fired.
In science you're ENCOURAGED to challenge the mainstream view. But you have to actually have evidence. This is pretty unfortunate for pseudo-science like homeopathy or ID.

Science has made absolutely no promises, other than an increase in knowledge.
And yet it has given us everything in just a few hundred years! Cars, planes, computers, medicine, longer lifespans, better food. It has sent people to the moon, it allows you and me to be talking right now even though we are hundreds of miles apart. It lets us play games, watch movies, listen to music at the touch of a button. It has literally restored sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf. It has made lame men walk.
This is all BECAUSE science is changing, that is the fundamental strength of the scientific method. Every change in science brings some new technology or benefit.
Religion on the other hand has promised EVERTHING and delivered none of it.
It promises to make you live forever, and it hasn't. It promises to restore sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf and make lame men walk...... It hasn't done any of this.
Every change religion makes, is a last ditch effort to avoid extinction, or some trick to bring more benefit to its leaders. Every change in religion brings some new hardship or problem, and takes you farther and farther away from your goal.

im in bed trying to get shut eye and just cant because of this repeating question that i have in my head.
i know what the answer is to the question, but i need to hear it from the horses mouth.
so in my 30th hour of being awake i get the courage to dial 411 and call my father whos an elder that i havent spoken to for 10 years.
On my way in to work I realized that they may have thought I was going to kill myself which I had no intension of to do, but I can see how they’d be scared after I hung up.

I'm thinking of a visit in the here and now, where I can ask questions, see, touch and feel. If I had such a visit, I would become a believer.
I think I agree.
If it was a one time thing and all it did was scare me, I'd have my head examined. But if I could ask it questions that I could test the answers to later on. Or if it left some darn good evidence.
But I DEFINATELY wouldn't expect other people to believe me. I'd keep it to myself. I think if you are so deluded that you can tell somebody a story like that and expect him to believe you, you're nuts even if it DID happen.

But I would add that not only has Christianity had some influence on our moral values, but so has Hinduism, Buddhism, Shamanism, Animism, Satanism, Mormonism, Atheism, Humanism, Judaism, and Haruhiism.
