Hi Undecided:
My father DOES speak to me. As a JW (like everyone else here) was never taught how to listen to God or even to ask him for things on a personal level - everything was directed to the "organization". When some christian friends of mine started talking about their relationship with God and how he speaks to them I thought they'd gone a little coocoo......what the ???? Did they hear voices in their head or what?! But I started praying and asking him to teach me how to listen, to open my ears and my heart.
Now I do hear him - it's like a thought that comes in my head that I know isn't mine.
But here's the thing. If you are talking to someone and they turn away from you what do you do? You quit talking of course - obviously they don't want to have a conversation with you. Same way with God - if he's not talking to us it's because we aren't listening. Some people just don't want to - and then lots of others (like us X-JW's) don't listen because we don't know how.
I know from reading your posts that you have a lot of questions about faith and the bible - and you've brought up some really good points that made me think and do some research. That's a good thing. JW's were never allowed to question - obviously because they didn't have the truth. Noone should ever be afraid of questions - even if we don't have all the answers.

Whenever I run into JW that shun me
by Sadie5 ini haven't been df or da, just left.
i run into jw's in restaurants, grocery stores and on the street and they act so stuck up, or give me a dirty look if i smile at them and say hello.. i then think to myself, what reason do they have to act so arrogant toward me?
they support a religion that promotes the secrecy of child molestation.

I like to start a conversation with them like nothing ever happened - they don't know what to do. It's funny.
And sometimes - just say "It's so great to see you, you know - I've been praying for you" and walk off - blows their mind!

Hi Bible Basher:
I believe that each person has a purpose - we are here to learn, to grow, to love, and to improve ourselves and the world around us. When Jesus said "the kingdom of God is within you" I believe he meant that literally - we have the power to make this world a better place if we believe (have faith) and are willing to put in the work required.
That's my thoughts on each person's individual purpose. Why is the entire human race here? The same reason we as humans choose to have children - why have kids? Because we want them, and we want to share our lives with them. Same reason God made us - he wanted us and wanted to share a relationship with us.

Misconceptions of a "raised from birth&quo...
by Dawn inhaving been raised as a jw - there were many things i was told and accepted as reality.
even after being df'd for some years i still kept these beliefs - it was not until i became a born again christian that i realized how narrow the view i held was.
perhaps some of you can relate to these small nuggets of the "reality of the world as seen by a jw".... * only a jw has a hope of the resurrection to look forward to when someone dies.

Perhaps some of you can relate to these small nuggets of the "reality of the world as seen by a JW"...
* Only a JW has a hope of the resurrection to look forward to when someone dies. The "world" has no hope to comfort them (let's not talk about the fact that Christians of all denominations believe in a resurrection also)
* You can trust all JW's - even ones you never met- noone will ever steal from you, lie about you * JW's know their bible better than anyone else in the "world" including ministers from other religions.
* JW's are the ONLY ones who do the witnessing work ( except for maybe the Mormons, but they don't count so we don't talk about them. Oh yea, and all those missionaries - but we pretend they don't exist.)
* Jehovah has ALWAYS had an organization here on earth (we just don't know what it was for about 2,000 years after Jesus died)
* JW's have friends all over the world. Worldly people only have a few friends and are very unhappy and lonley.
* Wordly marriages don't last or are unhappy because they don't have the "truth"
I'm sure there are many many others - these are just a few that popped into my head today on my break (yea - I'm working...........)

Does your heart skip a beat when u read this?
by Iron Eagle indo the demons inside you still make you remember what you have been taught for so many years by the watchtower?.
and what if it all happens according to the plan of the governing body... the united nations decides to wage war on religion ; the witnessess carry on doing what they do best.
then the cry 'peace and security'... but uh-uh ..... here they are .....raising their ugly heads above the dock.... jehovahs witnessess .... now with a message more vigerous than ever .... 'you see !

ON a side note.......why is it that the JW's think that if/when the political world turns on religion that Jehovah's Witnesses would be the ONLY ONES who would still be preaching?
Honestly now - now many NON-JW's have lost their lives over the past several hundred years because of their faith? Thousands every year right now are slaughtered in foreign lands because they refuse to keep preaching the gospel. And the JW's somehow convince their flock that they are the only ones who can withstand this type of persecution?
How is it that I was so blind for so long?

Families torn apart by Religion
by JH indo you know of any other religions that tear families apart like the j.w's?
jesus said that families would be torn apart because of his name.
does this make them the true religion because they are tearing families apart, like jesus said they would?

There are many instances in history where religion tore families apart. The Catholics vs. Protestants, a jew who becomes a Christian may be shunned by his family. There are also circumstances that had nothing to do with religion - the civil war for example.
Edited to add: If you read Jesus' remarks in context - I believe he was speaking to the Jews at that time - a Jew who accepted Jesus as the messiah may be in combat with the rest of his family who did not believe Jesus was the messiah.
