Aug 15th JW only WT now on JW.org
by dozy innothing much to report from a quick skim through of the articles (i havent the heart or the inclination to listen to all of them) but there does seem to be a new emphasis on the earthly hope perhaps the wts are concerned at the number of new anointed.. the usual counsel to obey those in positions of authority and in this way god is obeyed is empahsised repeatedly and an article counsels against time spent texting , phoning or on the tv instead of preaching.
(interestingly it refers to a study saying that the average person spends 225 minutes on the phone per day and says that this is more than twice the auxiliary pioneer requirement , so i guess no decrease in the hours is imminent.).

UN Question - Any Takers?
by dozy inno - nothing to do with ngo / dpi or anything like that!.
my question concerns rev 17:9-11 and specifically the reference "was , but is not , and yet will be" which jws interpret as the league of nations , dissolved during ww2 & then re-established as the un.
i vaguelly recall researching how jws interpreted this scripture before 1939 & recall that they applied the "was" bit to a different un-type organisation that existed before world war 1 , was then dissolved and the "will be" was then applied to the league.

BBC program on Scientology - similarities to JWs
by dozy inan interesting program on scientology was aired on the bbc on monday- you can view the program on the bbc iplayer here (may be restricted for uk residents only).
http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/default.stm.
there certainly were similarities with the jws (although the description of scientology as the wtbts on steroids is an accurate one.).

Spectator article 2000
by dozy in"the spectator" is a high brow , somewhat right wing uk magazine edited by the current lord mayor of london boris johnson.
reading the magazine in the public library back in 2000 i suddenly came across this article and it was one of the first indications for me that something was "a bit fishy" in the jw world.
i never did find out who "james king" was - a former jw who writes (presumably) under a pseudonym.. me - i'm just off to join the panacea society.

KN Campaign - results
by dozy inthe uk feb km unusually contains the results of the kingdom news 37 & convention invitation campaigns (they don't normally make the information public).
convention invitation - 515 slips returned , "over 60%" requesting bible studies.. kn37 (to end of nov , so somewhat incomplete) - 311 slips returned , 185 studies requested.. the report is spun so that "you will be delighted to learn the results" and "jehovah has clearly blessed your hard work".
i can't help feeling that these results are very poor , though doubtless a devout jw would say that if only one study resulted , then that would be a fine result.

Article in Times (UK) newspaper today about Bretheren
by dozy inthere is an article in todays times newspaper about the exclusive brethren which is a not dissimilar group to the jws in th uk ( shunning , no xmas , everyone outside of the group is worldly & bad association etc.
) there is a 2 spread page inside the paper with experiences from those who have been disfellowshipped etc.. the charities commission are looking into the group which claims millions in tax reliefs.
i get the impression they are starting to clamp down on the many religions / pseudo religions that claim this.. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/faith/article4384092.ece.

Deborah 13 tv program
by dozy inanybody see this program , which was on bbc 3 in the uk a couple of weeks ago?.
"documentary about 13-year-old deborah drapper, who, unlike other british teens has never heard of britney spears or victoria beckham.
she has been brought up in a deeply christian family and her parents have tried to make sure she and her ten brothers and sisters have grown up protected from the sins of the outside world.

Religious education - are children still excluded?
by dozy inwhen i was growing up , it was obligatory that all jw children were told not to go to religious education classes.
nowadays it seems that almost all kids are allowed - in fact , i even heard a recent experience at a district convention about a child witnessing during her re class.
what is the general policy in your area?.
