Why don't JWs do much in the way of charity work?

so i argue with the boyfriend a lot about the fact that i think charitable work is every bit as important as preaching when it comes to serving god.

every church i've ever gone to has some sort of community outreach, if not several outreaches, that have little or nothing to do with preaching.

and i made the point that if these people know you're affiliated with a church, they'll think a little more kindly about christians, too, which would help in the whole witnessing arena.

The Society did join United Way in order to receive Funds and Services.

Where can I find some more information on this. Did a local congregation join or did the WTS as a whole join?

Good Morning, was thinking about how to get this issue noticed and was thinking that many of our college students these days are more than willing to take up a cause and run with it. I have been able to use google and locate organizations on campuses who are actively involved in prevention and identification of domestic violence and the victims and am planning on sending the article to these organizations either electronically (if I can locate an email address) or if need be via US Mail.

Thanks all for the great ideas, after almost a week of reading about this the shock has still not worn off, this is a disgusting, sick and appaling article.

Was pleased with a response, I have also sent the information to our local news paper as well as the Chicago Tribune, since the Tribune Company owns our local paper.

As Mary had also suggested, I will be sending a letter and copy of the article to Women's Study Program faculty members in this area. As you said, hopefully can get just one person or paper interested to making an issue of this in the media.

Here is one response from a local agency who deals with domestic violence.

Thank you for sending us the link to this section in Watchtower Magazine. Too often we hear from women that they stay in an abusive relationship because they have been advised my there faith leader or quote scripture from religious readings. I will be sure to share this article with staff, so that we can stay current on what women are being told by their faith leaders and organizations. I appreciate you taking the time to send this article.

Had not thought about the Women's Studies as another place to send the article...thanks, would be some pertinent information about how some groups are not doing anything to help step violence against women, in fact are condoning it in certain situations.

What forume are they being told this in? I can not imagine this being stated in front of the sisters???

This stuff needs to get out, for the public to see, if only for the benefit of the poor mind-controlled sisters who may stay in a relationship getting the s**t kicked out of them because of this filthy propaganda.

Using the template letter that Mary provided I have sent a link to the article to domestic violence organizations in the area where I live.

Have also modified the letter a bit and am planning on providing to the local newspapers as well as television stations. They are very quick to give the WTS air time for a new build or a local convention.......

Oftentimes on the way in to work I pass three JW women handing out WTs/Awakes, I am carrying a copy of the 'Selma' part of the story and going to ask them about the WTS stance domestic violence, maybe can get these ladies to think at least a little bit for themselves.

i helped her move out this weekend so i must be a masochist too...so on top of losing every friend in my life...i have now lost my wife...and yes i asked her to leave on more than one occasion this year...we have argued for nearly five years about wt crap...nothing i could ever say would make her question anything!!!!

it was beyond frustrating...then this spring when i somehow disassociated myself and even lost my parents i knew i would never have a normal marriage no matter what...all i wanted was a normal marriage with mutual friends...that is off the table as long as she is a jw...but why could i not accept it???

why could i not shut up???
