Here is my sad but true story!!!
by dissedsis ini was born into a well off family in the wee year of 1979. my father was a water/oil well driller and worked days on end so i rarely ever got to see him.
by the time i was waking up in the mornings he was already at work and when he returned home at night i had already gone to bed, so most of my days where spent without him.
i had sister that was 14 years older than i was and she had severe brain damage and had to be placed in a state home when i was 18 months old, so i do not remember to much about home life with her, other than it was like we had a "big" baby at home with us.

It is nice for me to hear the stories of female ex-jws. One of the things that really started working on me when I was still in was how many horribly depressed sisters (and psychotic brothers) there were in the congos. I couldn't just write it off as human imperfection, it seemed like there was something more to it than that. I started wondering if it was the JW religion that was making people (including myself) crazy. It was.

Warned about Internet use again!
by VioletAnai inso...the km for may has an outline re internet use.
once again we are admonished to stay away as some sites are deceptive in that they say they promote jw's...but be aware!!
they actually slander...slander the witnesses.. i can only assume they mean this board and the silentlambs site first and foremost - so if the elders weren't aware of these sites...they are now...the rest of us (barr me) are sitting there enthralled... .

Englishman:
Knowing a little bit of the British character, I sometimes wondered if the df'ing thing was as hard-line over there as it is in the States. You affirmed what I had already suspected.
As we all know, the growth of the WT in recent years has primarily been in the Third World, where access to info is limited. Hopefully some of them will find out the truth about the truth before too much damage is done to them. It is a shame that the WT is preying on such persons, baptizing them after a six month study in the Knowledge Book, which doesn't even begin to give you any knowledge of what you're in for.

All their warnings about the internet only fed my curiosity. I wondered what was out there that could be so damning, after all, I was in the truth, right? How could the truth be refuted by a lie? I found out who the liars are.

WORLD OF XJWs - ESSAY
by Amazing inworld of xjws - essay .
pondering the many comments made in the last week about xjws, one might wonder if we are obsessed with, and controlled indirectly by, our individual and collective watchtower experiences.
it may seem to some that we blame the watchtower for every problem in our lives.

Amazing:
I don't know if I'm cured, but I definitely am wiser from the experience. I was talking to a friend the other night about how the WT uses Matthew 24:45 as its authority scripture and how they quote or cite that scripture continually at meetings and in the publications. The first and foremost mark of an abusive church or cult is postured authority. The WT postures authority like no other.

I am happy to be out of the Watchtower. Yes, I wish in many ways that I had never been a JW ... then again, had I done something else, would it have been that much better or that much worse?
Good question, this is one i'm wrestling with. As a newbie exjw, I am still bewildered from my experience and still not sure what to make of it all. Some days I'm bitter as hell, and in a strange way this bitterness makes me want to run back to them, so that I don't have to feel the bitterness of being an ex-jw. I've said it before on this board, the communal aspect of the org was the strongest addictive element for me. I swallowed my doubts for years because of it. I am having a rough time adjusting to facing life on my own.
I seem to have a personality that invites abuse and exploitation. If the WT hadn't stepped in to take advantage of me, something else would have, something that could have been much much worse. After all, none of us can really say that our JW experience was 100% bad. I had some good times. I'm sure glad to be a living exjw as opposed to being a dead Branch Davidian. Some cults are worse than others, for sure. The WT is bad, but they're certainly not the worst.

I probably shouldn't care, but...
by DanTheMan inon a monday about two months ago, i mailed my da letter to my congo and emailed a link to an "apostate" website to a bunch of jw's.
i am wondering if there was any way they could have df'd me without contacting me.
they would much rather df then allow you to da, especially when apostasy is involved.

nope, no phone call, nothing. I think they're afraid. The congo I was involved with was pretty messy, I think the elders there were hanging from the bottom rung as it was. I had a couple of phone conversations with one of them before I left. I expressed to him how sick I was of conventions and assemblies and meetings where all you ever hear is the "are you doing all you can?" mantra. He didn't have much to say about it, almost as if he agreed...

JW Display at the Mall
by saltiest inthis afternoon while wasting time at the promenade mall, in temecula, ca (southern cal) i had a hard time containing my laughter.
just in front of me were two women behind a table full of wbts literature.
what caught my eye was a young people ask sign.

i hope they didn't have out such recent classics as "Help for Arthritis Sufferers" and "What is Your View of Cleanliness" - it may have caused a mob scene of people scrambling for such fine, timely spiritual food from God's Organization.

Love, Marriage and Leaving JWs?
by non_trias_theos inhave you ever heard bitter divorcees relate their experiences about their former husbands or wives?
most of the time, if it is a wife telling the story, her former husband could not do anything right.
he was a terrible father, lover, provider, cook, gardener and he smelled funky and was abusive.

I can appreciate your wanting to come here and defend the JW's. When I was on the inside looking out, I often thought "why do people say we're a cult?" I was mystified by all the criticism.
People who are involved in a cult are never aware of it. The following is taken from the book Captive Hearts, Captive Minds
The nature of the psychological manipulation and abuse in the cult is usually not apparent to people who are still influenced by the leadership's justifications and rationalizations.
For any active JW who still believes the WT Society's central doctrine, the Faithful and Wise Servant doctrine, the above applies. I beseech you to read a book such as the one I quote from above. It doesn't mention JW's one time, but I think that any JW who read it would be hard pressed not to see how cultish the organization is.A lot of us here feel like Tina Turner did after she left Ike - like a truck had run over her. Yeah, we're bitter. Did Tina have any idea what she was getting into when she became involved with him? Doubtful. I had no idea what I was getting into when I took the plunge.
