How to create a new social life
by Wide Awake! ini grew up as a witness, but it's been a few years since i've been to a meeting.. i'm having trouble being social and making new friends.
i've moved away from the town that i grew up in (about 45 minutes away) and, although i'm not df'ed, i've lost track of my old friends after they found out i wasn't attending anymore.
you guys know how it is.. i'm self-employed, extremely introverted, and have kind of isolated myself for a while.

Regarding the question about Holt's official status in the cong:
On another JWN thread, 'seenitall' wrote: I have direct information that Jonathan Holt was not reproved. He stepped down from being an MS after his "episode" last year. He had not attended meetings the past few months and his wife was getting ready to seperate from him. This info comes from someone in the same cong. who will not be identified. They read letters in all the congs telling ones to not be interviewed by media and refer all questions to the family spokesman. The branch sent out 2 brothers to do comfort the cong (do damage control) and the District Overseer conducted the Memorial Service on Saturday. All this is from reliable source.
On the same thread, JW GoneBad wrote: I learned from a friend who knows members of Whitney's congregation that Jonathan Holt has been baptized some 4+ years, had been a MS but was reproved last year and removed. The question remains: Reproved and removed …….Why? Is there a connection with his being reproved, removed as MS and this crime?
Does anyone here know which is correct?

Here is link to the 44-page police affdavit that I mentioned earlier:
http://media.oregonlive.com/gresham_impact/other/holt1.pdf
Here is link to an article about Amanda Holt:
http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Jonathan-Holts-wife-files-for-divorce-176341531.html
Regarding Holt's judical reproof, I think it was a JWN poster that said this was false. Holt 'stepped down'. So there is discrepancy with regard to his official congregational status. Clearly he was an irregular and possibly inactive publisher. (Although in the police report he stated that he was out in service with Whitney and others a month or two earlier. But he may have been lying about that in order to explain any evidence in her car that placed him there.)
EDITED TO ADD:
Link to article that summarizes alot of the memorial and the people involved:
"[Amanda is] ... being cared for as much as Clint and just wants people to know how grateful she is for the help," Vaughn said.

Regarding Amanda Holt ('the wife')...
I don't have the articles handy but she's been busy in the ten days since the arrest.
She has been released (without penalty) from the lease on her apartment.
She has made arrangements to leave her current job and resume employement with prior company.
She filed for divorce on Friday.
Clint Heichel has mentioned her with what seems like heartfelt kindness and concern in a few interviews.

Very touching and emotional report.
But not without glaring concerns (from typical exhalted-JW slant):
According to the 44-page afadavit, the police had several officers involved in this case by early afternoon on the day she disappeared. [The account as cited in the OP gives the impression that the police were just sitting idle for 24 hours. Not true.]
While the witnesses were great at organizing a search crew, they also potentially contaminated the crime scene(s). [ie: her jacket was given to Clint who in turn handed it over to the police]
The brother got the bank officer to waive confidentiality because they knew each other personally??? [Isn't that a crime?]
Holt 'visited' the Kingdom Hall? [He was baptized, served as a Ministerial Servant, and was even married in a Kingdom Hall. Would not have been allowed if he was just a marginal member or casual attendee.]
This one, however, can potentially be the most telling: Sitting arm in arm with the family was the chief of police and a number of other officers, and the mayor came too. I think we about hugged the life out of them. But we have clearly won them over and think the world of Jehovah’s Witnesses now.
Hmmmm Could this be one reason for the special arrangements for Open House at the Kingdom Hall. If it turns out that a deeper investigation is conducted as to whether elders had reason to know of a severely unstable Jonathan Hold but chose to do ignore the signs, how thorough will the investigation be if the local elders, CO, DO (and I think one or two Bethel Heavies) have already charmed and wooed the chief, mayor and other officials involved?????

Girls are unpredictable, materialist, and use us, men, as a toy.
by will-be-apostate inwell, it seems like i am going to ruin the domination of raypublishers' topic at this section of the board.

OP wrote: ... my paypal account is ready for accepting any donations so that i can buy me a motorcycle. Seriously now, wasnt i accurate enaugh in my post that i dont want to die, but want to be loved. Please dont hijack the thread :D
I know you made this statement as a joke, but I think it says something about you. You are afraid to take risks. Many people are. Most of us consider the risks before taking action. But I think you are more 'risk-avoidant' than most.
Start small, but take some calculated risks. It may just change your life for the better.
Try new things. You don't have to buy the entire package deal. But do explore a few new things.
Most people who ride a motorcycle live. And live well.
You are young. Try new things. Go to new places. Travel a bit. Find a few hobbies/activities that you enjoy doing and cultivate them. One or two inside activities and one or two outdoor ones. You will meet people (and women) who have similar interests. If those women are not exactly your time, they have friends.
Mostly have fun and play nice. But do go play.

Letter From Whitney's Mother

dear family, i want to tell you that although this has been the worst of my lifes tribulations, that i am still standing.. the obvious reason is that jehovah is the faithful keeper of promises holding to his word that never, would his great love allow his precious children to be tested beyond what we could bear.

There is 2.45 minute video of the Open House here:
Quote from the husband: Heichel's husband, Clint, called the reception an opportunity "to give the community a hug" and thank people for their outpouring of sympathy. http://www.oregonlive.com/gresham/index.ssf/2012/10/whitney_heichel_family_holds_p.html
I still feel for all involved. I think Clint is probably a really good man. Being in the JW religion, though, messes with a person's priorities. And 'service' of others out-shadows taking care of one's own emotional needs here and now in THIS system of things.
It's not healthy. It's a distraction and it's denial.
So sad from so many angles.

The husband made a similar statement about feeling compelled to give back to the community that had shown so much love for the family. They had not even buried her or had the private memorial for Whitney and yet husband and mother are both showing more concern for comforting the community at large than in taking care of themselves and grieving the horrendous loss of their wife and daughter.
I don't have his quote, but will try to find it.

is there a danger in being financially secure?
by hoser inthis question keeps repeating itself within myself.
why is the watchtower so hell-bent on keeping jw's undereducated, underemployed and under financed?.
is it a control issue?.

I think they are less concerned about their followers being financially secure than they are them being educated.
A major goal of education is to get people to THINK. And to reason. And to communicate using those tools.
A thinking, reasoning, communicative person is dangerous to the WTBTS.
Financially secure followers who *do* remain loyal to the org are more likely to donate more and they are in a position to pioneer. It's not about the money, its about the brain power.
