My dad is studying this book with my little sister in preperation for baptism. (she is 14, but homeschooled and still very "young"). I also am looking for interesting questions to post to her while she is studying.. Nothing blatant just things to encourage her to be a free thinker. (i already to lots of science stuff with her because she didn't get much science in homeschool, and we both are addicted to scifi) I think i can include this in the unoffical education that i am already engaged with for her. I am pretty sure if i can post-pone baptism for 4 years she will come to the same conclusion that i did. And yet wouldn't be stuck like i was.. (and am)

You all are reminding me of books i think are great... Asimov is the best, his commentary on the bible is excellent as well. (nice as its coming from the perspective of an agnostic humanist..)
Card and Herbert. Loved Dune but my favorite was Man of two worlds... (i think that was the title the one with the alien that was addicted to Basil..) Also Stranger in a Strange Land. Or any other by RH, He is the author that convinced me poloygamy was ok...

It will get old. And the irish will be repressed once again. (i mean come on in our wars the best we could do is take the post office.) But our drunken poetry will remain forever..

What Went Thru Your Mind While Sitting at The Meetings?
by minimus ini used to listen but not really.
i'd look at the platform/speaker stand, look like i was paying attention, get antsy, and find another elder to "discuss" something ith.
i just got to the meeting----right before it was to start and if the talkative po decided that his last part was going to go overtime, i'd put on my coat and look at the big clock on my way out in front of everyone and leave for the local bar.

It's like my mind is on fire, when i listen. When i tune out i fall asleep. Mostly i stand in the back and people have the impression that i work so hard i need to stand up to stay awake. When i was younger i spent all the meetings making origami flowers and birds and would give to little kids..

If i remember there is major doubt that mosses wrote "in the beginning" anyway. Isn't there some evidence of it being plagiarized from another earlier or similar document?

Sex Education for FIVE year olds?
by Latte ini read the following article, and found too many points where i felt utterly amazed that anyone can think our children should be exposed to such tuition.
how far have we gone as a people to feel that young children need to be taught such adult stuff?
really, i found many of the points in the article quite worrying.too many to mention.. please take the time to read all of it .

Hmm.. I'm not sure that is the correct way to go about it. However i do believe that education is the key. You can't stop people, including teens from having sex. But i also think that the above system shows some hints of irrationality.
