What was the first thing Adam said when he set eyes on Eve?
by ballistic inaccording to the bible he decided to name her "woman".
in the previous verses he had been on an exercise to name all the beasts of the field and birds of the air.. personally, if i'd been wandering around a paradise garden on my own for years naming animals and suddenly set eyes on a perfect naked woman, i think i would be inclined to invent the first swear word.. although later, when eve gave birth, adam said it had been "with the lord's help".
so maybe he wasn't quite as spontaneous as i'd imagined, or maybe adam thought god was serious when he said she was a "helper".

Taught me good morals, good study habits, great training on the theocratic school .Kept me honest, prevented me from ever taking drugs, made me stop smoking - all which have been a great benefit
The price is too high - you've paid for a mansion and ended up with a tarpaper shack. "But, hey, at least I've got a roof over my head." Anyone who thinks they have gotten value out of being a dub is manifesting the power of brainwashing.

Very well done. Your letter highlights the basic flaw of JW (circular) reasoning: 'you must use only our publications to investigate whether this is the truth' and 'we are the FDS and as such, our authority cannot be questioned.'
I hope your letter makes your mother think, just a little.

1st post, but not new!
by brother inhello everyone, been browsing the forum for quite a while now(about a year) and decided its time to post.
i'm male, just turned 36 on the first of april, i've been in a the process of fading for about two years now, not that easy having come from a witness family.
i've been in doubt about this religion for most of my life, but finally built up the courage to stop going to the meetings, finding out now how big and beautiful this world is and realizing how much i missed out on "real" life!.....i started to fade about the time i was being pushed, yes pushed into becoming a ms. i did not want to have that duty, and i say duty, not "privelege" as they would say because thats what it is, a duty!

being a member of a mind-controlling cult is a well established correlate of developing a "gregarious and confident" personality!!!
ROTFL! The reason we all like Richie so much is that he's managed to develop a winning personality IN SPITE of being in a mind-controlling cult!

divorce
by deda inif a spouse has been unfaithful and a legal divorce has been finalized is the marriage over in the church's eyes?
i've been told by the elders that i must witness the adultry or provide two witnesses that can speak to the adultry.
my ex-spouse will never confess to his past or current sexual acts.

'Scuse me.......but who the heck commits adultery (or pedophilia) in front of witnesses?

having doubts..
by fairchild ini have not been on this board in a while for various reasons.
the main reason being that my best friend died on march 11th, and things have been different since that day.
i don't have words to describe how the void feels, so i won't even attempt.

fairchild: You can deal with your grief and the period after - mourning - without having the all the answers about God. One foot in front of the other. It just seems more urgent to KNOW right now, but it really is just the human condition to deal with not knowing. And its okay to not know. It really is.
The WTS has conditioned us to think that we have to have all the answers and that we CAN have all the answers - it is one way that they lure ignorant (but well-meaning) folk into the fold. Do you ever hear them say - "It is a mystery - we just don't know" about ANYTHING? Will pets be resurrected? Can we eat meat in the New World? What if we were married twice in this world - which spouse will we re-unite with? Will there be cars? THEY will find an answer in the literature every time!

Where were you when the realization hit, that the WTS was not in the truth?
by whyizit ini was listening to a testimonial by valerie acuff and she said that she was sitting in an assembly, looking around at the crowd and thinking to herself, "this is your family, these are your people.".
she said at that moment she heard a voice inside say, "these are not your people, this is not your family, get up and leave now, and don't ever go back.
" so she took her two children at that very moment and left, and she never went back.

Wow! I wish I could claim the mind-boggling epiphany that some have described here. For me, it was just a slow realization, starting with the Babylon the Great book - that all of human history could not be just a backdrop waiting for the arrival of an insignificant little cult called Jehovah's Witnesses. And then, I could not do it anymore. Halleleujah! Free at last, thank God, I'm free at last!
