I am not making this up.
I have a tee shirt that says:
"I survived Armageddon -- 1975 -- and all I got was this lousy tee shirt!"
think of the awesome reception you will get at your next meeting or convention wearing a stylish apostates, inc. shirt.
such as our personal favorite:.
happy shopping!.

i got to thinking the other day about things that i missed out on being a jw growing up.
not going to collage comes to mind as does dating more extensively.. the thing i look back on with the most regret though, is my lack of deep friendships.
going to high school i had worldly friends of course, but i never let myself get too close to them.

what you wrote is exactly how I felt. I attend every high school function I can, and remarkably, my old high school mates are very receptive to me, considering what a self-righteous asshole I was.
not a prolific chatterer, myself, i nonetheless took notice february 17, 2002 of the list of those participating in live chat.
it read like a "who's who of jwd".. live chat: farkel, teejay, bigboi, norm, kent, valentine and cowboy.
later smolderingwick and mindchild joined in.. it would have been interesting to have snuck in as a lurker, but simon does not give us that option.
Cygnus wasn't there so it couldn't have been that much fun.
this is straight from touchstone forum: http://www.touchstoneforum.org/.
"why are we jehovah's witnesses?".
let me approach the big picture from this angle.. jehovahs witnesses know that the christian organization that they are affiliated with has made errors in the past.
So they are convinced scripturally. Great for them. Doesn't mean I have to be. Let them live how they want to live and don't worry so much about it. I don't.

i have posted this topic before and achieved some good replies from it.
i'm just reposting to see if anyone has any further takes on this matter.
here is my original post:.
: Does anyone have any comment on this matter?
Yeah, it's bullshit.
Now, I'm not saying the whole Adam/Eve/Serpent/Jehovah thing is out of the realm of possibility. It very well could be the truth and I am just too proud to accept it as such.
But, the whole theory of Adamic sin and resultant physical "imperfection" and death is so full of holes it is just too ridiculous to accept. I had to sit through 30 minutes of explanation about why we grow old and die and what Jehovah purposes to do about it at the Kingdom Hall yesterday. 6 years ago I would have agreed 100% with the ideology, but yesterday I sat there wondering how I ever believed in that wackiness.
I will be turning thirty in a couple of weeks. That is supposedly the age everyone will grow forward or backward to in the new system. Just imagine that -- an earth entirely populated by physically perfect thirty-year olds, eating watermelons and petting lions. It's like something out of the Twilight Zone. THAT is God's purpose for mankind? It seems to me that if there is a dog, err... god, that he's left it to us to figure out our own way to "paradise" or happiness, whatever course that takes each individual on.
went to my grandfather's funeral service at the kingdom hall today.
two or three minutes were spent on grandfather, and the rest on the bible, jehovah, how sin makes our bio cells degenerate, etc.
etc.. fortunately, i'm well past the stage of anger at the witnesses for shoving their religious beliefs down my throat.

Fortunately, I'm well past the stage of anger at the Witnesses for shoving their religious beliefs down my throat. I wasn't too terribly bothered with the speaker's constant insistence that "only the Bible, only JEHOVAH can give us ANY HOPE OR COMFORT at a time like this."
I found it amusing how the speaker needed 6 or 7 Bible texts to prove to his audience that death is nonexistence, and about 6 or 7 more to prove that the dead are coming back. I should think that one or two each would have been sufficient (nobody was there to be preached to), but it sure felt like the speaker thought it was of utmost importance that everyone go away from the Kingdom Hall believing in his sermon.
There wasn't much else interesting to report. The beginning of the service was sad, grandmother and others crying, but about 3 minutes into the talk, like I said, focus shifted from grandfather to the Bible, which got everyone too bored to think about their sadness.
I guess there were a couple of interesting people there. The elder who gave the talk is a very old family friend and long-time JW who excels at speaking and relations (always has parts and responsibilities at district conventions). He also gave my mother's brother's funeral talk 38 years ago.
Also, the chairman of the appeal committee which upheld the initial judicial committee's decision to disfellowship me two years ago was there. He has known my father for at least 35 years. As I was standing with my father and grandmother, he extended his hand to me and said, "Hello, I'm Ray G...." I said, "I know who you are," smiled, and shook his hand.
A few other old family friends were there. Only one of them gave any indication that she was shunning me (probably more due to the fact that I had neglected to invite her to my wedding, which hurt her deeply, so I've been told). Some came up to me and chatted for a few minutes. I really rather mystified as to how many people both in my family and in congregations where I am familiar know that I am disfellowshipped.
Anyway, I felt like sharing today, thanks for reading this. Back to scanning some old pictures I have of grandfather to share with the family tomorrow.
it's nice to see ros post here but unfortunately its the same anti-cult hype.
a cult is just about any organization that you decide to leave for one reason or another.
let's consider these enlightening comparisons of moonies and jw's.
All I can say is, thank Yahweh I have known proplog2 for five years and can totally understand where he is coming from.
Unfortunately for him, he will probably now feel compelled to waste several hours explaining himself to these people who are too quick to judge his motives and point of view.
i understand that a lot believe that micheal and jesus are one in the same some believe that jehovah and jesus are one in the same some believe that one is the son of god yadda yadda yadda.. would some of you please address or post your reasons for believing that micheal the arc angel was not gods first creation and why he couldn't be the one sent to us to be born as a man and become our savyor?
why would he not have another name fitting his role as a man on earth?
he obviously wouldn't be living on earth as a child growing up as an angel.
Sidd,
: with respect, the issue is not Michael/Jesus
Guess I got thrown off by the title of the thread.
: but the doctrine of the immortality of the human soul.
I would suggest that a discussion of pre-existence of souls would be more relevant.
: The inconsistency in J.W. teaching is shown up when one tries to answer the question " What Was Transferred?"
This is all explained in Study 4 of Pastor Russell's 5 Volume. ;)

Here's how I answer JW critics in the Yahoo chat room.
JWs believe that Jesus Christ fills the _office_ and _function_ of "Michael the Archangel."
I know of only one Watchtower reference which refers to the prehuman Christ as an "angel."
What many people fail to recognize is that JWs believe that Jesus was God's first creation, and the only creation by God himself, personally. Jesus was the prehuman LOGOS that was the agent of creation of all [other] angels, and other forms of life. That makes him special. I hate it when born-agains say, "You JWs say that Jesus is a MERE ANGEL."
JWs also do not believe that Jesus retained any divine, angelic nature when he walked this earth. Born-agains often erroneously argue, "An ANGEL could not die for us." JWs do not believe an angel was the ransom sacrifice.
How this all works is irrelevant, since the Bible invokes miracles, and miracles are not worth debating. Whatever Friday and Jan have to argue about will simply become meaningless assertions over definitions.
Dakota, Buzzard's theories are not new, but he sure has an interesting and logical means of discussing them. I have spent time with the man personally. Great guy.
its funny how a phone call from a poster can instantly change ones perception of that person.
i suppose that we all have a mental picture of how other members look and talk, so the reality of a phone conversation with a jwd member can be very interesting indeed.
ive met a few and spoken with others, so, heres my assessment of some of them:.
Get a Yahoo account and then you won't pay to talk.
