I agree Mary, the problem is that the wt makes all the decisions. It should be left up to a person's conscience. But on a day like Easter when Jesus was resurrected, running around having an egg hunt in honor of a fertility goddess has to be an affront to anyone who considers themselves a disciple. As for the meetings, if you don't want to go, don't go.

We don't celebrate holidays because ........
by RubaDub ini just can't stomach the time wasted in meetings and in the literature about the jw stand on holidays.. we try to explain why we don't celebrate christmas, mothers day, halloween, thanksgiving day, etc, etc, etc.. yet in reality, other than the memorial and anniversaries, we don't celebrate anything, regardless of the origins of the holiday.
if a new holiday was created encouraging people to be nice to each other, we still wouldn't celebrate it ... it would be worldly!!!.
all the time and energy put into determining the origins of certains days is just a waste of time.

No, it's commercialism keeping people on one of those tread mills that you can't get off of that keeps people in debt and distracted. It' not about keeping up contributions to the borg which I opted out of. They aren't wrong about everything.

All I know is that every month it's time to blow more money on stuff that I'd rather not or can't afford and say dumb stuff that I don't mean, like happy birthday. Does anybody really give a hoot when you popped into the world?

Do the Governing body know they are being dishonest?
by strawberry cake ini wonder if anyone has any ideas on this.
who, what is behind the wts.
is it just men genuinely making mistakes but are sincerely trying to serve god?

They are men who love organization more than God. As such, 2Cor4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel."

I learned a great deal that I never would have learned without going to a seminary. In a way the dubs are like a seminary in that it's a very controled and structured environment. That they have deviated so badly and basically mutated into a fanatic sect is bitter-sweet. Bitter in the realization of how wacked out they've become, and sweet to be away from it; but I will continue to use some of their reference material, some of which is very thorough, condenced and historically factual.

Never Thought About Suicide. Why not?
by Nosferatu ini was doing some thinking this morning about my mother, when she said she wanted to "work on our bond" over a pizza, and i pretty much didn't bother with the offer.
i was thinking about how i'd confronted her before my boy was born about all the physical abuse which she denied.
i started thinking back to that time in my life, when i would shake uncontrollably thinking about school, let alone actually going to school.

That some choose to short-circuit the natural process that leads to the nursing home and a miserable existence and leaves others who are still alive to contemplate their fate and in a quandry, and given the horrible lives so many have lived, why there haven't been countless millions of others who didn't chose to opt out, has always been a mystery to me. In the long run we're all dead.

I'll never forget a line I heard once. I think it was Bill Cosby who said, "I've met a lot awfully smart 8 year olds that turned into awfully stupid teenagers.
PS. My grandfather was one of those who had to quit school in the 8th grade to work on the farm. He wound up running a couple businesses that I know of for 55 years. I wish I had half his smarts. My grandmother was something too. Went back to school in the '50s when she was in her 50's and wound up being a a school teacher for 10 years. -

What's really important is who had the best ads that you can see in their entirety on myspace.
Gets me all doubled up with emotion.
