  hello from mavie.

  currently happily married for a number of years to a great jw wife, i currently serve as an ms in our local kh.

  my wife and i have been told we are pillars in the congregation.

  Welcome Mavie,

  Depression hits both JWs and non-JWs. There could be a hormonal problem with your wife. It could be something terrible that happened to your wife in her past. These past "life experiences" lead many to the Truth. The Truth helps for a while, but then those demons arise. Like a glass of milk, if we don't deal with our past....it festers and hurts to deal with later.

  I applaud you for helping your wife. The best "ministry" or "field service" we can give is to our families. The elders have forgotten that. By caring for your wife in her time of need, you are setting a great example for your children and others near you. We are to treat our wives as Christ treated us. Christ would not have left a sick person to "take care" of themselves.

  I am a 3rd generation ex-JW. I've watched depression set in for the past two generations as my relatives got older and faced death. They never thought 1975 would happen, nor 2000. Depression & mental institutions at the end. While depression hits both JWs and non-JWs, I can personally attest that it does hit JWs, especially the older ones. Very good on the advanced education.

  I went to Easter Catholic Mass

  while ive been to a roman catholic church after casually leaving the jws, it was my first time attending after being truly out.

  i was hedonistic and even took communion.

  A friend invited me and my family to Roman Catholic Easter Mass & Egg Hunt. I went. While I’ve been to a Roman Catholic church after casually leaving the JWs, it was my first time attending after being truly out.

  I was hedonistic and even took communion. I thought, Christ wanted us to eat the bread to remember him....so, here goes. I jokingly thought, “At Memorial, we just pass the bread plate Here, the Catholics are so nice that they allow people to eat a piece.” The “talk” was a lot about Christ and his resurrection and eternal life. Not much different than the WTS, but the emphasis was on what happened on Easter Sunday, and how that brings our own hope to Heaven. I don't remember any talk about the "dinner."
  
  I guess I’m just warped. I could not help thinking...gee what a gambit this is. Convince some men and women to give up family, kids, and life to serve “God”. Make them give a few “talks” a week, to attract new followers, so the followers give more money to the church. Not much different than the WTS.
  
  But, I commend the Catholics. This church operates a soup kitchen. I was not "love bombed".

  But, I can't look at a priest without wondering about the children...just as I can't look at an elder without wondering how many sexual abuse families he "sheltered" from help.

  I wonder what Jesus would think of his current "Church"

  Becoming an agnostic, cynical unbeliever in modern day religions, today.

  we watched the tv show, 'the amazing race' (the couple i didn't like finally got the boot), ate take out chinese food, and had a relaxing night.

  my mom, aunts and inlaws all went, poor souls, we prayed for them.

  for starters, tonight, i'm going to hang out at my local church's neighborhood gathering and get some food, then i'm heading off to the local synagouge to celebrate my hebrew roots.

  Going to Memorial Service for the first time.....what should we expect?

  we spent 6 months "studying" with a jw couple.

  they claimed the wts had all the answers, but they actually couldn't answer any of our questions.

  (we are devoted born-again bible-believing christians.).

  Women: Don't wear pants. Must be in a dress.

  Men: Must be in a suit.

  Do not drink the wine nor eat the bread - this isn't a Catholic ceremony.

  The talk will be on Jesus's last night, the symbols used, and on the new world. Nothing "hard core" (like blood policy, child abuse, not going to college, pioneering) will be discussed. They keep it "light" in hopes of luring more followers.

  Evidently or Apparantly? Manipulation technique by WTBTS?

  my boyfriend pointed something out to me a while ago.

  when i would be relaying a story to him or something like that i would commonly use the word 'evidently'.

  for example and evidently mr johns said this.

  Hate CO Visit

  our cong.

  recently had its co visit, and i realized how fake people can be when the co is around.

  elders take time off of work to go out on service during the week, ms's that want to be elders kiss butt to the co. taking the co and his wife out to lunch become a competition.

  The WTS is trying to teach the men to not beat their wives. This is good. Those from the 50's 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's .... know what arrogant roosters there have been/still are in some congregations. Men use "THE HEAD of the household" to justify abusing their wives. These men did little to make a good "witness" to their families of God's loving, forgiving nature

  But, I deplore this WTS writing as it reinstills that women are inferior to men. This is bad.

  Precious? Yes.

  Delicate? NO.
