In the early 1990s, apparently during research for the "Proclaimers" book, researchers learned of the time capsuale and actually removed one of the walls of the pyramid only to find it empty. The Bible Students, NOT the Watchtower had to restore it.
Fascinating. The Judge has the Pyramid built and later discredits it. The Bible Students, who did not build it, restore it. How ironic!
this year, i again accompanied my jw wife to one day (sunday) of the district convention this weekend.

Kind of puts the claims made at the assembly this year in a different light.
it's been reported on this forum that bethel speakers at this summer's conventions are asserting that the establishment of the united nations in 1945 was predicted in advance by the witnesses.
this is being presented as validation of the claim that the witnesses are god's one true organization directed by holy spirit.. .
the basis for this claim originates with a public address entitled, peace - can it last given by n.h. knorr at the new world theocratic assembly, on september 20 of 1942. .

Why is the TJ encyclopedia site closing? It will certainly be missed. I checked there and they don't have scans of the Millennial Dawn series in French or of the early Watch Towers in French. Hopefully, if these are scanned, some other sites can put them up to be used for reference.
some years ago me and my wife we were visited by a relative and his wife (all jws...) ... it was few days after christmass...... upon arival they gave us nicely wraped gifts ..... we joked "wow how nice of you to get us christmass gifts...!".
they replied: well it is not for christmass, but we were with our inlaws recently, and they have this nice tradition of celebrating "happy day".
they held between christmass and new years eve ... you know, its good for kids, so when kids get back to school, they are not embarassed by not having any new presents... so we thought, its neat and decided to celebrate it as well ... how do you like the idea, it is not christmass, its just a substitute...????".
How many heard the line: "We give our kids presents all year round. We don't wait for a holiday or birthday to do so"?
Somehow, I think most JW kids never got an equivalent amount of gifts as "wordly" kids got.

olin r. moyle was the society's attorney from about 1930 to 1939. he authored several of the society's legal publications.
he later became increasingly disenchanted with the moral tone of bethel, especially the harsh and obscene language judge rutherford used (often in print) and what he considered to be excessive drinking there.
when moyle could no longer tolerate the situation, he wrote a letter to rutherford with his complaints, rutherford responded by promptly expelling him and his wife from bethel.
Thereafter copies of the Resolution were given free to all, to take home with them.
