Service Meeting Week Starting January 2, 2006
by TheListener insong 5. note: congregations are not to move their service meeting for the week of january 2 to an earlier night unless the circuit overseer is visiting.
in every congregation, the convention insert should be considered on the service meeting as scheduled.
if there is a circuit assembly this week, book study overseers should announce the convention location and dates at their regularly scheduled book studies.

And just to think - I have to make reservations and spend money on this crap convention because I'm still in.... At least I don't have to worry about getting there at 7am to run around the parking lot looking like a bafoon taking orders from a plumber/parking attendant extrordinaire.

Question on downsizing

OK, you got about 3300 Bethelites in Brooklyn - they sent up a hundred or so with the construction of the new printery. So at Wallkill that would make about 1500. Patterson, I believe, is pretty stable at 1200. That comes to 6000. I dont know... it could be a bit lower, but they really haven't sent that many home yet. They are doing this process slowly so as not to cause a stir or panic. They utilaze the natural attrition rate and let a few go from the middle ranks and that means they could probably skim off a hundred to two hundred per year nonchalantly.

I've read some pretty imaginative Fairy Tales but....
by lucifer ini must say the bible takes to prize, they are pretty creative, i mean a snake that is a devil talking to a naked woman trying to make her eat fruit, or how about a man who gets his strength through his hair (sampson i think) and an evil woman tricks him and cuts it off, anyone else feel like the bible is a good bedtime story, but now they left the borg find it hard to believe??

The stories more often remind me of the fiary tales written by the brothers Grimm. You know, kids being eaten by bears, slaughtering all the firstborn, extreme punishments for being disobedient... all that good stuff.

How much time does the WTBT$$ have left?
by TallTexan inobviously, there is no answer to this, i just think it's an interesting ??.
my personal opinion is that within 10 years, the wts will be a shell of it's current (and especially former) self.
it may not even take that long.

There is an interesting thing that happens when you have an organization, administration, or family head who tries to maintain the status quo in the face of a changing world: They become ever more insecure because they are losing control and this impells them to take ever stricter measures to make themselves feel like they are still in power. Everyone else plays along for a while, but eventually, as their power fades, they begin to lose their legitimacy of authority. When that happens, the only thing that can retain that legitimacy is a change in policy that accomodates the changed world and, in turn, respects the newer generation and what they need to live a healthy and happy life. If they don't do this, the organization's rules (or laws) become obsolete and they fade into obscurity.
The Society has been fading into obscurity for a good couple of decades now and that is why they cannot retain the younger generation. -

ACTIVE JWS: YOUR MISSION HERE...
by Severus inthis week the "recommended lodging list" of hotels will be released at the service meeting.
consider this your call to action.
copy down convention date and hotel contact information, including hotel name, address and phone number.

MJ: Imagine if there were no hotels for any of the JW's at their convention site! Oh, the chaos that would ensue....

I overheard from a district overseer that the rate of young ones (under 20) who "fall away" from the truth is about 80% in his district.
NOW can you see why the Society is so frantic about college? -

There are about 6000 bethelites spread throughout Wallkill, Patterson, and Brooklyn. These numbers could be a bit off, bu that was the figure when I was there.

Beards are evil, but do you know why?
by free2beme inas a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.
when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.
" why was this a form of rebellion?

I had my priveleges taken away from me when I got a buzz - not even completely shaved head, just a buzz. In cases like this, it's always some patriarchal figure in the congregation that just can't bear the thought of losing absolute control over the rest. They use rationales like saying it's too worldly or "gives the wrong impression" or they take the slippery slope approach and say if you do it all the other kids will do it too. Yeah, and then what? Will the world explode or something?... The point is, fads (with good taste) are not inherently wrong. We all participate in fads to a certain degree.

SELF ESTEEM in the organization
by justice for all indid your self esteem increase or decrease after being in the organization for a while?
-
daniel-p
I felt beat down all the time - and mostly when I was doing everything - but I always had high self-esteem. Thank goodness I do have high self-esteem because I've seen many brothers and sisters get depressed and develop all sorts of negative personality traits because they feel worthless in the organization. That's the thing - the society is always quick to remind us how worthless and disposable we are since Jehovah only has "loyal-love" for us - meaning of course, that if we are the slightest bit disloyal to him we are thrown away like trash. Constructing a God like that does wonders if you want to maintain control over a tribe, nation, or religion.
