Does the average JW feel the "end is near"?
by Bumble Bee inmy hubby recently had a discussion with his older brother.
my brother in law told him he wants to reach out to become a ms. he's going to cut down on his work schedule, go out in service more, spend more time with his son etc.
he's in his mid forties, has always been regular at meetings and fs, but never aspired to reach out before.

"I ran into a elder who's still faithful this week- and he's upset with how messed up the publishers seem to be - broke, sick,
depressed, you name it. "
---- And this just feeds their persecution complex: SATAN IS REALLY TRYING HARD TO BREAK GOD'S PEOPLE BLAH BLAH BLAH. -

150+/200 New Congregations in US are Spanish
by daniel-p ini have a friend who speaks spanish and likes to go to their meetings once in a while.
she was visiting a nearby congregation who was having their co's visit and he mentioned that out of 200 congregations that were formed in the states last year, 150+ of them were spanish!!
this, of course, was mentioned in light of how fast the spanish are growing, but all i could think about was that if the spanish consists of so much of the growth in the us, then the english congregations must really be doing horribly in order to break that 0% growth!

One thing I have noticed more than ever is the lackluster comments during the meeting and general lack of expression of faith, but once the meeting is over the hall is filled with noise as these same people talk with eachother. We all go to the meetings for the social benefits involved, not because we need spiritual healing or some such nonsense. I think this is especially aplicible to the younger crowd who are turned off by all the fundamental aspects of the organization.

"The Bible Teach book is less dumbed down than the Knowledge book IMHO"
Although I cannot offer an example at this time, I agree. With the very title, "What Does the Bible Really Teach?" it addresses the person who is inquisitive, and needs convincing. "Knowledge That Leads to Everlasting Life" just sounds so corny and cultish.... -

They are completely disregarding those who might not be sold yet on monotheism. In all their new literature they launch directly into what the Bible says. I believe they are trying to wean themselves off of defending Creationism (fundamental or otherwise) because they know it's a losing battle. It is no longer their prerogative to get engaged into theocratic warfare, even though that is what they purport to do. If someone doesn't believe in God, then bad luck for them, because the vindictive and multi-personality God Jehovah is certainly not going to appeal to them. It is not a coincidence that the lands with the greatest growth are traditionally areas where people are monothiestic and have a penchant for proclaiming the apocalyptic ends of their enemies.

by AlmostAtheist ini bumped into a jw at the store the other day.

he banged on for a bit about people we both knew, how service was that morning, etc.

To think that some people equate overpopulation with a literal shortage of land is comical. The issues of overpopulation are entirely different than that. It's a cheesy way to completely change the nature of the topic and argument and basically be able to say anything you want about it in rebuttal.

The Narrow Road
by AGuest into the household of god that is israel, and all those who go with... may you all have peace!.
i know that it has been some time since i posted last; working full-time and attending law school full-time sort of commands a great deal of... well, time... and as a result i have been a bit remiss in serving god's household, at least as far as sharing with you all here what i have received in the manner that i did previously.
thankfully, jah is not as "exacting" as many have made him out to be (as demonstrated by the life, love and compassion of his son, my lord, jaheshua mischajah), and so i have had the loving freedom to live my life, which i have done with much joy!

Although I apreciate the sentiments stated above, it all sounds a little bombastic and overly dramatic. No offense... I guess some people are into that sort of thing....
