  Should kids learn cursive handwriting?

  i am an elementary school teacher of the fourth grade.

  in times past, students would start learning cursive handwriting in third grade and by fourth should be transitioning to writing in cursive at all times.

  as you might be aware, this has all but been taken out of the curriculum.

  I teach 5th grade and I have the same issue. When I first started teaching, I wrote exclusively in cursive on the board. Now I cannot write in cursive at all on the board because they can't read it! If I need to send a note to another teacher, I just write it in cursive and send it with another student. They act like its a secret language or something. Lol

  Yes, I think cursive should still be taught in schools, but I cannot carve out time to do it and its not in my curriculum to do so. They put so much on our plates to teach.

  And half my kids can't read a clock either. They all have iPads now so they keep track of time that way and don't have to ask me what time it is anymore.

  Will JW Org benefit ?

  throughout the world there seems to be a resurgence of faith, probably less observable in europe where i live, but still evident.. russia is now orthodox, even the kgb (different initials now i know) has its own church !

  even in india, a secular state in theory, the hindu influence is stronger than ever.

  islam continues to get stronger, making its presence felt, and demanding special freedoms, even in secular france.. god/faith, whatever you want to call it, is making a comeback, despite rationalism being adopted by many.. will jw org benefit from this resurgence ?

  I think we will continue to see some surge in JW numbers in some countries where religion is becoming more prominent, like 3rd world countries. But not in developed countries where anyone has easy access to the internet. If i had met JWs for the first time. A simple google news search would frighten me away.

  I see the behavior of some on here revert back to their JW ways when it comes to politics. Very black and white thinking. Villianizing anyone who expresses an opposing view. This is exactly what JWs do to religions that they don’t agree with. It’s all or nothing. JWs make no effort to find common ground with ones they deem as completely wrong. And they group all opposers into one big category ... again it is that all or nothing, black and white thinking. And it is being ‘repeated on this board.

  I really hope the demeanor of discussing politics changes on this board. I really would like to discuss politics and opposing views with my fellow JWs, but not if I am going to be called a cry baby, an idiot, or any other name because I have an opposing view.

  It is okay to disagree. It is not okay to name call and hurl insults.

  how many think they will announce in the annual meeting they just gonna have one meeting a week?

  if they dont it will be astonishing, amazing and other things..

  Nothing news breaking will be announced. Same old drivel. Some new campaign will be announced urging members to jump on their hamster wheels again because ... the end is just around the corner.

  i just took a good look at the "blood card".

  it is cartoonish with the x'd out blood bag.

  and a sample directive from the hospital is a way better form for making wishes known.

  I agree with most of what you said, dubstepped. But like I tell my students ... we can still do the right thing, even when others don't.

  The youth in our country is watching us, and we are setting the tone for the next generation of voters, for better or worse. We need to change the dialogue on both sides. We can all express our disagreements without resorting to insults and name calling. This is Kindergarten 101 stuff.

  Religion in the USA and Elsewhere

  trying to follow media reports in the us and elsewhere, a question occurred to me.. in the uk, religious beliefs are largely irrelevant to most people.

  even those who claim adherence seem to do so in a fairly vague way and it doesn't seem to make much difference.. in the us (it seems to me) it's a much bigger issue.

  the evangelical christian movement seems quite powerful politically in various iterations ("family values" etc.

  Knowing and understanding a politician's religion is very important to me, and it think it should be important to everybody. I know I am probably more sensitive about it than non-ex-JWs, but I wish other people paid for attention to it.

  A person's religious beliefs naturally influence a person's decision making about a lot of things, and it is a great way to tell what their world view is.

  For example, Trump made it very clear that he was against muslims and wanted a muslim ban when he was campaigning. I am guessing there were people who disagree on that issue, but voted for him anyway. For me, it would be a deal breaker. I think it should be for anybody.
