  ever notice how the folks who are the most prone to lob an insult or accusation over the fence are also those who hide behind a closely guarded psudonym while online?

  and, the majority of their barbs are aimed at those of us who are comfortable enough to be here as ourselves, using our real names.

  i know that there are many folks who use psudonyms to protect their identity from those within the organization whould would rat them out to the brooklyn feds, but many others just like to hide behind a facade and shoot their slings and arrows from far offstage.

  Kismet, You bring up some good points, and I have to agree with you on much of what you say.

  However, I still contend that the nastiest, throw-a-rock-and-run retoric comes from folks who keep under wraps. Friday's ongoing homosexuality thread-from-Hell is an prime example - I think his behavior there would never be matched by anyone operating in the light of day.

  I don't want to discount how important anonymity is for many, and would never want to imply that people should HAVE to reveal who they are if they don't want to. But maintaining that anonymity also comes with a price, and that is the fact that others don't REALLY know if the person they are dealing with is on the level with them.

  I wasn't thinking of you when I said that - I was talking about those who hurl insults far and wide and then duck behind a cover of anonymity. I hadn't noticed such activity from you in the past.

  Would you not agree that the loudest, meanest, most insulting retoric comes from those who - for whatever reason - do not reveal themselves?

  And, yes, if you are going to take someone to task on some subject, your argument has much more substance when you are forthright about who you are.

  In my case, I am neither DA nor DF. I have friends that are still in the organization, and I have no problem with any of them seeing this. The local Elders can see it too - they know where I live, and can stop by to say hello anytime.

  Reading that made my head spin! All that speculative stuff that goes round and round and round, never actually dealing with anything real. According to them, that "death will be no more" business only applies sometimes. Those who try to grow beards after resurrection will have to go to the termination booths.

  When folks like Alan, Kent, Randy, Joel, and Englishman (along with many others) have something to say, they back it up by having the balls to say it as themselves. Such is not the case for many others, whose nom d'keyboard serves to hide them from any accountability.

  My first was a 1962 VW Beetle. I had many other Beetles, busses, and a Karman Ghia since.

  I currently drive a 1993 Infiniti J30t, with 190,000 miles. Best auto investment I ever made. Still runs like new, and looks great.

  I wish I had a 911S from the early or mid-1970's. The great irony is now that I can afford what they cost brand new back then, I can't afford what they cost used now.

  I also have this little gem sitting in my driveway, waiting for the time and money to permit a restoration:

  Alas, the cat is no longer with me.

  Ex-JW atheists

  i know there are lots of atheists on the board, so i'm curious what attracted you to becoming a jw in the beginning.

  personally, i feel a bond with all ex-jws (and to those of you doubting) since we have gone through the same things.

  so my question is not being sarastic, but i'm curious as to why you are where you are.

  Having been "born into" the organization, I was never given that choice. Like most witnesses, I very much believed in God and everything else that those whom I trusted taught me. But when I began to discover how untrue most of their teachings were, I began to look for proof - or at least some evidence - before believing anything else. And I found there to be very little evidence to support a belief in God.

  Your excellent post deserves a reply. I am sorry I missed it the first time around.

  I remember thinking this stuff was bunk even when I was in the fold, and now that I have some distance from it it is clear to see what was going on. You are quite right - this is all the work of con-men, and the folks at WBTS are as gullible as the next person, perhaps more so. When they present stuff like this as "scientific evidence" of their superstitions, it is almost painful to read.

  Oh, if it were only true! I am actually waiting for the phone to ring, with an offer of an exciting new project. My last assignment wrapped up in mid-July, and I am between assignments right now.
