Do todays Jw's care at all about Russell and the pyramid?
by olongapo joe injust wondering, as i will be visiting active jw family in ohio in a few weeks, do you think it will be worthwhile dropping it into a conversation, about the wtbts pyramid near his grave, or try some other topic to try and wake them up.
i was never baptized and don't really care if they get upset or not, but it is only a day trip from ohio to pittsburgh, and thought it would be fun if they denied it, and then drove their to see it for ourselves.

Most JW'S are on a constant treadmill of theocratic activities that time to meditate about things never really happens. Even though Russell is considered to be the beloved grandfather of JW'S , your friends will simply blame his tomb on old light. "We don't believe that anymore" thinking. -

What's the purpose of being a JW now?
by MrTheocratic inwith all the recent changes to this religion, what really is the purpose of being a jw?
especially for those who have been in and witnessed all the changes and still no sight of the end.
for these ones in particular (35-55 year olds) they must be in a state of confusion.

For these ones in particular (35-55 year olds) they must be in a state of confusion. And if they are totally honest with themselves they must be asking ..."why continue? " Even though I'm still in I'm awake and I go through the motions. ....I can't for the life of me, understand how anyone with a honest mind can continue to believe that these men in Brooklyn are somehow divine? This I believe is the reason why recent converts to the organization have been persons who are either psychologically impaired or have drug issues ( I'm basing this off of what I see locally), not normal people. A normal person would see no use for this religion. What do you think? -

Bethel Meeting at Regional Convention
by MrTheocratic ini decided to go to the bethel recruiting meeting yesterday to test out my theory that the organization is in decline.
i assumed that if there is a general feeling of apathy by many in the org, then certainly it would be shown up by the lack of enthusiasm or zeal by many to sign up for bethel service.
well let me say that based on what i observed, this organization is not going anywhere.

All points made are fare. Fridays attendance was around 7000 and the meeting was held in a very large room. If I had to put a number on it I would say attendance was like 3 congregations put together. -

Often times many argue on this site that the organization is in decline due to many reasons. But I believe that JW.org was designed as a tool to prepare and build this organization for he next 100 years.

Why would you want to wake up before the 90s?
by John Aquila inif you were a jw in the late 70s into the late 80s you might have been one of those brothers or sisters that just happened to be in the right kingdom hall and with the right people.
during that time being a jw wasnt too bad if you were able to establish the right connections.
a person could pioneer for a while and be appointed as a ministerial servant in a year or two and within 5 years you could be an elder in your twentys.

The gig is certainly up. And I think many realize it. You can tell by the lack of meeting attendance and zeal for the ministry. Those who are appearing to be zealous are in reality very depressed deep down. They have giving up so much where else can they go? So sad. -

The Secret is out....but nobody cares
by MrTheocratic ini've been looking on this site for some time but never posted.
i'll give a little about myself, but not too much.
i'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee.

Integ I guess the word movement has sort of slipped into my vocabulary after reading alot of information about JW's. I think that would strike me as odd as well. It would be like a brother in the congregation saying he has a sermon to give next Sunday instead of the word Talk. :-) -

Thanks to all for the warm welcome
Violias I in no way was trying to be disrespectful. I think you misunderstand me. I to was a staunch believer up until about 5 years ago. I truly believed that the Watchtower spoke for God himself.
I knew some who where in just for social and other reasons and it was these ones who I just could not understand. ..... why did they not have the same zeal and enthusiasm for the truth I had? Did they not see the urgency of our times?
I have made many sacrifices for this movement. But as time went on the facts no longer could be hidden. The elephant in the room was getting bigger and bigger. I would venture to say that the elephant was in the room when your ancestors were in the truth, but you could find something to cover it.
Now that elephant has outgrown the room.
No we were not stupid. We just wanted to serve God

I think (and this is from my observation) that this organization has cried wolf to many times for many of its members to ignore, even the hardliners. I caution all to not assume that just because one may appear to be fully in that they really are not deep inside having serious doubts. Many I talk to and observe are not buying all this happy 100 year talk. They realize its just a screen to mask a bigger problem.
Just think about it like this ...if all are buying into all of this hype why has meeting attendance dwindled, why are so many depressed, and why the drastic need to rebrand the organization.
Most of you have commented how the jw's of today are not the same as before. I believe and see that this is due to a lake of faith in what they are being told.

Magnum what you say has some merit but let me say that their are more who have serious doubts then you realize. Just because they may talk a certain way and act a certain way doesn't mean anything. If we were to meet I'm almost positive you would not suspect me of being a doubter. Remember Ray Franz had serious doubts about 1914 but he keeper in line.
Some are keeping in line. Not rocking the boat. Because for many... there's no need to rock the boat. They have their jobs, family, homes and other toys. Some even have respected positions in the organization that makes them like little gods. "Who cares if it's not the truth , it's still a respectable way of life".
