what a breath a fresh air to be free of watchtower.
now i can finally rant about the things i put up with that i'd never put up with now.. in no particular order:.
little kids in suits.
''By the time she was finished there was not a single word that wasn't covered in fluorescent ink.''
I remember I went through a brief phase of after my Dad nagging me to ''pre study' the Watchtower 'study',
underlining every single word of the whole 'study' article. Just to prove a point.
I very rarely answered at the meetings, certainly not the latter years,
but I so wanted to put my hand up and then read out the whole paragraph in answer to the question, just after the Watchtower reader had just read it.
hi.
only just noticed on the jw borg home page that matt 24:14 is quoted with a full stop instead of a comma after the word earth then the closing quotation marks.. isn't that incorrect?.
Regardless of the omission of punctuation in early manuscripts
shouldn't the JW Borg have it as
''This good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the earth''. (Period/full stop after the quote)
as opposed to
''This good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the earth.'' (Implying that is a full sentence being quoted)
Missed the earlier thread.

this is sort of a continuation of threads on dubs and how they are conditioned to discipline their children.
someone questioned whether the society actually encouraged dubs to whup their children.
i only had enough time to dig up a few salient quotes from the wt magazine.
What did Bro Jackson say about corporal punishment to the ARC?
about 10 years ago there was a brilliant piece by a legend on this board - may have been farkel.
it was where he showed how ludicrous it was to flit between solar days lunar months a solar day for a 360 day year but those years are 365 to come up with 1914. i have tried searching but struggled.
does anyone remember it and if so can you point to it with a link please?
I'm looking for the Farkel thread on it. Try this link https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/76183/best-farkel
the great pyramid and the flood of noah.
_________________________________if your world view rests firmly upon the foundation of bible accuracy matching the reality of history, sooner or later you’ll crash into the question of when the great pyramid was built.why?let’s see why…2 peter 3:5-6 complete jewish bible (cjb).
5 but, wanting so much to be right about this, they overlook the fact that it was by god’s word that long ago there were heavens, and there was land which arose out of water and existed between the waters, 6 and that by means of these things the world of that time was flooded with water and destroyed.________________________________________________.

Ancient Air
What was the air like 4,600 years ago? That is what scientists are hoping to discover when they penetrate an underground chamber on the southwest side of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The 96-foot-long (29 m) chamber, covered by 4- to 6-foot-thick (1.2 to 1.8 m) limestone slabs, is thought to house a second ancient funerary boat for the “soul” of Pharaoh Cheops. The first—only 12 feet (3.7 m) away from the current site—was discovered in 1954. That wooden vessel, 130 feet (40 m) in length and excellently preserved, is on display in a museum built for it. The two pits, some 30 feet (9 m) deep and covered with 10 feet (3 m) of rubble, escaped the ravages of time and tomb robbers. It is expected that the second will be like the first—hermetically sealed by gypsum cement, thus trapping the ancient air. Space-age technology will be used to penetrate the chamber without introducing outside air. This will enable the scientists to measure particularly the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the interior air, compare them with present levels, and perhaps throw some light on the question of whether the earth is really warming up as is believed by some scientists.
i am translating jwfacts to spanish.
i am doing the "statistics" section.here are two graphs that show that the statistics have never been worse for the watchtower:quantity of hours required for 1 baptism: note how low it went in 1974-1975, and note that 2016 is much higher than the slump of 1978... about double, to be exact.
2016 was a historical record in this statistic (higher is worse for watchtower).. this stat is the baptisms as a percentage of the publisher average.
''In particular it results from individualisation, capitalism, egalitarianism, social differetiation, pluralism, relativism, technological consciousness, and compartmentalisation,''
Yes my thoughts exactly.
jehovah's witnesses have had to revise their chronology and various doctrinal interpretations due to events and scholarly corrections.
but the one teaching where they have been consistently ahead of the curve is the importance of jehovah's name.. .
i'm going to run through a (necessarily selective) timeline of jw events and scholarly publications that demonstrate the phenomenal success of this teaching in the last days.
'Witnesses refuse to kill each other.'
Yes. But here's the thing. An unlikely scenario I know, but, what would happen if the Governing Body had new light
to say that in certain circumstances it was now allowed, as in ancient Israelite times, to kill fellow Witnesses?
(to say that in certain circumstances it was now allowed to have organ transplants).
Blind obedience is all that is necessary. People like yourself would have a hard time reconciling the new light but I knew some who would follow what the leaders said no matter what.

12 Many of our readers or public officials may ask: If Jehovah’s witnesses of today are linked up in one unbroken chain with those witnesses of ancient times with such a history, why is it that they do not carry out this tradition of military combat? Why are they not found in the ranks of the armies of Christendom? Why do they seek exemption from military service? Why do they go so far as even to refuse to enter the Public Service camps maintained for or by pacifists and conscientious objectors, or take any part in the defense or war effort? Ask Jehovah’s witnesses why, and they will tell you it is not because they have turned pacifist. It is because they have conscientious objection to taking part in such war and defense efforts of Christendom and the rest of the world, their objection being based on God’s Word, the Bible. But, you ask, how can they be conscientious objectors and not at the same time pacifists? They are not against war between the nations, and they do not interfere with the war efforts of the nations nor with anyone who can conscientiously join in such efforts. They fight only when God commands them to do so, because then it is theocratic warfare.
13 Were Jehovah’s witnesses today to claim to be pacifists, it would mean for them to denounce all the pre-Christian witnesses of Jehovah who took up arms to uphold Jehovah’s universal sovereignty and his theocratic nation of Israel. But this denunciation we cannot make. Jesus Christ never did so, and he is Jehovah’s greatest witness, who has earned the title “The faithful and true witness”. (Rev. 3:14) Jehovah himself is no pacifist.
