Reclaiming my national identity
by Lady Lee ini love this country.
it is the home of my childhood and though there was a lot of pain there were the good times - going off to the park and looking for frogs and snakes, getting stuck in the mud, learning to swim in lake ontario, watching my 8 yr old brother jump off the 25 foot tower in the swimming pool below.
i was older but he had the spunk.

If there was a lottery to be won...I won it...and that was that I was born here. Happy Canada Day...from another proud Canadian!
Actually, I have dual citizenship. I have a Canadian Passport...and I have a European Union passport...as my father is a citizen of Germany.
I'm very proud of my Canadian Passport (well...maybe not the picture..but the country.) It's respected. I'm so privileged to live in such a splendid, diverse country!

Yes...I saw this for myself...and actually shut up about it to "protect" my brother.
Back in the early 80's my brother's buddies sold weed at the Vancouver assembly. They had carved a cavity into their bibles, so that it would "pocket" the weed. Apparently the pages of the bible make good roll papers?!?

Here is an email I received with regard to this matter this yesterday:
"EXPLOSIVE" NEWS FROM LAWRENCE HUGHES
As many know Lawrence was in court including this just past Friday in Calgary and he relates the following in this paraphrase and condensing of my phone conversation with him this Saturday night:
"Uh, how'd it go in court for you, Lawrence?"
"On the other side of the courtroom in opposition were five Watchtower attorneys, my ex-wife, my other two daughters, and my former brother-in-law.
At the last second two persons who used to work for Watchtower Society legal had provided me with affidavits. I quickly read the more explosive key revelations in those affidavits which told about Watchtower's deliberately lying for decades to the court. My reading out of parts of the two affidavits was recorded into the public record and so those parts are there right now for anyone else to also see them.
I could see the Judge sitting sideways with his hand to his chin listening closely to everything I was reading. The faces of my ex and the others on that side of the room went sick. The Judge accepted the affidavits as exhibits.
On June 20 there should be a decision. One of the two writers of the affidavits was a long-time worker, over two decades, in not only Canada's legal branch for the Watchtower Society but also in Brooklyn. Watchtower knows who they are and their names are mud now to Watchtower.
"Wow! They're sure heroes for the rest of us!"
"Yes, they are. I also believe there will not only be coverage of this from papers in Canada and Maclean's which is Canada's number one long-time news magazine, around something like 50 years, but probably global news.
Right now those in the ExJWs&Friends community who have had personal experiences concerning the blood issue can be writing or re-writing those as what they write may be going into news articles after the decision is rendered. They would be another line of news in their own right. So, please be asking people to be getting them ready for use on or shortly after June 20."
"Were reporters from the two Calgary papers there?"
"No, they'll be present for the big decision day on June 20 th. That's when it's going to be covered. I'll be sure to give other information to you."
"We're a community and the more knowledge out into our community the more powerfully we can help people. Having had a heartattack, I'd also like to know whatever you may be sending me later gets to the community for sure. Not even if I were to die would it not get out there. So, could you share it with others like Jonathan of Quebec and Dee in Nova Scotia? We're all autonomous but we work together increasingly as a networking community of Friends."
"Yes, you're right and I definitely will. I'll include Barbara Anderson and Randy Watters."
"You want people to know all this? You're not concerned Watchtower or their fanatical supporters like pedophiles would know? Also, I could tell you a lot of personal anecdotes and those of others; and we even hear of attorneys in the U.S. having expressed concern trial information and other important information might get spied on, wiretapped and the like."
"I know, for example here in Canada we have what are called Spy Stores where people can just walk in and buy devises to listen in from a distance. But if something like that happens, it won't do them any good. You know, the Watchtower knows I'm coming for them."
"Also, Lawrence, I bet you're worn out. I had thought I'd wait a bit until calling you up this evening."
"I've had to focus so much on preparing for court. It takes a lot out of me. I have to block things out and put the focus where it's needed. I really appreciate you're answering people for me as it takes a lot of the load off."
"Let's see, Lawrence. You're in architecture field, work-wise, I mean, right?"
"Yes. I write to specifications."
"Lawrence, I know you're tired, so I'm thinking I need to let you get some more rest. Thanks for doing so much on behalf of all of us. This is really great."
"Thanks, you have a good day. Take care."
"You too, Lawrence."

Maybe someone should write and ask journalist
[email protected] to correct Law professor Linda Smith who mis-stated (according to the journalist) that "in the past there were several cases in different states where parents refused blood transfusions to save their child's life." There not only have been but still are countless such cases among JWs in the fifty different states. Mary Aguilar welcomes contact with others who would like to either informational picket or place leaflets at doors lovingly informing the Public the "Truth" about the Watchtower Society over Jehovah's Witnesses.
Farther below for Mary and others are items any ExJWs and Friends are welcome to use. These particular ones cover the topics of Watchtower's disfellowshipping/shunning, Watchtower spreading of false predictions and fear re Armageddon, the blood issue and the pedophile crisis brought forth by Silentlambs. There's also an extremely handy leaflet/tract that's in Spanish as well as English.
If you don't agree with some, you can just lay those aside and use only the rest. They are produced by the christianwitnesses online fellowship for persons of diverse but mostly Christian beliefs including many who are also exJWs. It's not another religious organization, but a fellowship or spiritual friendship group. You may leave the leaflets anywhere (in library books, in restrooms, etc).
One friend plans to leave them in doors in New England or with people who come to the doors. If stopped by an officer of the law she can note that her activity is protected by freedom of religion and freedom of expression. The leaflets also promote the nonprofit charity Silentlambs, telling reading where to send donations to help Silentlambs. PO Box 311, Calvert City, KY 42029. U.S. citizens can claim donations sent to Silentlambs as a charitable tax write-off and I know for a fact that right now it's in need of anything you can send. I'm not sure if that works for citzens of Canada or the U.K. but even if not it's still a super great cause and as said it is in need.

It was a new Worker's Compensation act that came into law on April 1, 2008. It is a law based upon what happened to Grant Dupate (sp?). He was a young gas attendant who was killed in Port Coquitlam (?Moody), after trying to stop an underage person gas up and then try to drive away. He tried to stop it, and I can't remember how far he was dragged under the car to his death - but if memory serves me correct, it was might have been about 9 city blocks. The car was stolen.
At first, I was put out by the new pay before you gas up rules, but I've adjusted my belief now that this is in everyone's best interest. Gas is now prepayed in ALL cases. No more gas'n'drive aways.
No, I don't think this is a sign of the end of the world as we know it!

Definately NOT! This was one of the things that began my doubts.
When my JW husband left us days before our 5th baby was born, our oldest being 5 1/2 at the time, and moved in with a girl from his work...who did the elders blame for this? ME! Did anyone come to help me from the hall? The odd person, but for the most part, NO! No help with mowing the lawn or anything like that, not even help getting the kids to the meetings.
Some folks in the world found out about my situation, and what did they do? There's much more, but I'll relate one situation...they brought me a hamper with food, grocery store gift cards (about $500.00), clothing and toys for the kids, along with about $500.00 cash. Worldly neighbours didn't just offer to mow the lawn, they just came and did it. Did they ask for me to do anything, or behave in a certain way for this? NO! I was shocked to learn how much the JW's don't look after the "widows and orphans" in their midst and how generous the "world" was.
I could go on and on ...

After Divorce- When Getting Into a New Relationship - Don't Just Settle !
by flipper ini think most of us will agree that after having gone through divorce - that many of us were gun shy before getting into another relationship.
and that is fine for some people who feel they just can't go " there" anymore.
that being said, there are some of us over the years who after divorcing, went through several relationships or marriages before finally getting it right some day.

as a JW...I settled on 2 relationships...
the 1st was the son of an elder...he left me just days before our 5th baby was born...and moved in with a girl from his work...
the 2nd was also a son of an elder...he beat my 5 kids...and subseqently did a 30 day sentence and 1 year probation for what he did to us...we had 1 child together...
My 3rd., a "worldly" man are..getting married July 11...treats us all wonderfully...all 6 of us...or 7 if you include the kid some mom just threw out with no where to go...and we took her in...
Flipper is so right when he says to not just settle....I would have....but I lucked out...and have the most amazing person in my life now...
He's a wonder to my kids...it was his birthday today....and if I could have posted the card.my kids wrote..it would have brought tears to eyes. My children love him and respect him so much. He's so wonderful to me. I could never have expected this to happen to ME!

When I hear threads like this...it angers me greatly.
Not only was I a victim of an elder pedophile...I married into a family of an elder pedophile.
My elder jw ex father-in-law, I later found out, had a baby with his pioneer daugher...they had a girl, my children's now aunt/cousin. I still can't wrap my head around all this....

JW's from "The World" have a easier time going "Back Out Into The World"?
by BBOARD inwe all know how hard it is, usually, for those rasied in the truth to readjust "outside in the world" once they leave ... so not to undermine them (esp.
for those who came in later in life - regardless of how many times from the podium you were instructed not to "leave the love you had at first" many of you are here because you found out the "truth about the truth" whether it was the people or doctrine or combination ... and were willing to open your mind, realize the "truth about the truth" and leave.
not to undermine all those years and mind numbing propaganda you endured in the jw's, but i have always felt: .

Renaia...I too thought the same as you. I'm glad I didn't do it. My kids are 11, 15, 16, 17, 19, & 20 now. My oldest will graduate from UBC next year as an RN. None of them are doing drugs. None of them are sexually active (although it wouldn't kill me if they were.) None have got involved in illegal behaviour. The oldest 5 all have part-time jobs. They're not perfect, but let me tell you, so far they turned out better than I would have ever had expected from a single mom that didn't raise them as JWs. They are happy...and THANK me now for getting them out of that crazy religion. I left when the oldest was 12, so they have memories of being in.
And...I believe it is harder for a born-in to assimilate into the "world." You've lost all you've ever known - family, friends, beliefs...and you're faced with all these new choices you've never faced before. The guilt and fear factor is overwhelming. I think that in most cases those who came in later still have a base of family, friends & beliefs from their lives before.
