It is more worse then I thought.
Here they are a bit relaxed about it (well some are).
But the magazines are clear about it. I hate it. Just to know what I will have to endure probably later... (am not yet df-ed)
was wondering the clarification of a relationship someone can have with their mother if they have been disfellowshipped and the daughter is in good standing with the congregation?
the daughter was baptised after the disfellowship.
does this mean the daughter is not to have a relationship with the mother.

if a dub needed your help as in a medical emergency or in getting employment/job contract or in getting your support in a dispute with someone on a non religious issue or in some other way such as in a car break down would you help them?
if I help somebody depends on the situation and the person.
Not on somebodeies political color or religion.

Not exactly. Being American is basically a choice, and if you participate in the process and like what the country represents, then you can be proud. Some are ashamed to be Americans.
Is it really a choice? Many people like to be americans but are not allowed to be an american.
I know it is easy to critisize the politics of the country that has the most influence in the world. I mean if my country land does something stupid, who cares?
I do just not like many of the forrign policies of the states. Also the first time I came to the states, (I arrived from a developing country) I was shoked by the poverty.

You never said, I love Belgium?
I did say this maybe. I also said, I love america, I love africa etc. There are many places I love.
But I would never not say "I am proud to be from belgium".
That sounds like: I am proud to be white (or black) or proud to be a man (or woman). Just sounds very wrong.

This is Bull sh*t. You don't live here. You don't know how most of us feel. You only know of the vocal minority who are always screaming the loudest.
Flyinghighnow,
Actualy I lived there for some time. I did like a lot of things in the states actually. Of course not all people are the same. But met a lot (a minority though) of very patriotic people. The we are better though is common. I really did not like that. I know that far from all people feel like that. But the politics is surely trying to influence people in thinking this way.
Your post gives you away as a YOU or US thinker. When you put others down, you elevate yourself and that is a form of bragging.
I totally do not agree with you on this... I do not think I am better, nor do I think my country is better. I am not proud of my country. It just happen to be the place where I am born.
I see many things wrong with America. I see many things right. Most Americans feel the same way. I am very tired of all the America bashing that goes on on this board. If you don't like the policies, say so. Stop making sweeping generalizations. We don't deserve them as you don't deserve them.
Well,I was talking about policies actually. I do not want to make any generalizations, and if some feel that I did, I am sorry.

I do not feel my country is better than yours or most any other country. I am happy I was born in a country that is mostly free and that I have never had to worry about starving to death or losing one of my children to a curable disease. Im also happy that I have never had to live under a tyranical dictator or be treated like a peice of dirt simply because I am a woman. So when I say " I am proud to be an American" I am not putting anyone else down. I am just being thankful for all the good things I do have.Lilbit
Ok, lilbit, agreed. Hope everybody would feel like that.
just the expression sounds a bit strange to me (us here).

OK yall just a warning Im Probably fixin to piss a whole lot of people off but I cant just read this and not speak up. AS many of you know my husband is a soldier in the United States Air Force. I am extremly proud of him and the job he does for this country. I think our freedom should be celebrated. Get over it if you dont like it. I spent the better part of my life so far being told that its wrong to be patriotic and now that Im free to think for myself I have decided that I do love this country I am proud to be American and will tell anyone who dosnt like it to kiss my butt.
He he, you do not piss me off. I like your reply. I think it is nessesary to have soldiers etc. And he is probably doing a good job. O, and yes I do not mind celebrating your freedom. That is quite normal.
But why you say 'I am proud to be american". In what way is your country better then for example my country?
is this issue of the watchtower being part of the un department of public information of any significance?.
at the district conventions of jehovahs witnesses there are flags of the united states and other sovereign government such as states or other countries hanging from the buildings.
the governing body and the watchtower society rent buildings which become the equivalent of kingdom halls for the weekend.
ram, do you really believe it yourself.
if you do, then do someting like tat yourself and see if you get disfellowshipped or not...

I have a whole new perspective on patriotism. While I don't always agree with what this country does, I love living here and will proudly salute our flag.
Why are you proud then? What did you do yourself to make you proud for the country?
I have to admit and I agree, capitalistic nations are the best to live in. ; I certainly wouldn't want to be starving in Africa or live under some idiot tyrant...with my mouth I'd be dead. ; But I certainly won't bow down to a nation and it's leaders / politicians ;simply because they say I should. ; The western world hasn't made miracles yet so as to get my devotion, propaganda does exist and they use it to make themselves look better than what they really are.In the western world, freedom is only that you get a better position as a slave than the rest of the world. ; But ;we still remain slaves, financial slaves in my opinion, you have to buy their products, sometimes it is law to buy their products.
I do agree here with foreword that it is better to live in a semi-democratie then under a idiot dictator. It is not bad to live in a poor country as long as you have the money.... in my opinion it does not matter to much which (western) county. I do ot think that belgium is any better or worse then for example germany, france or usa. Danny
