Flu shots at local (Woo Hooooo) church!
by Fatfreek inseveral days ago my wife and i got our flu shots, both the h1n1 and the seasonal variety.. the local assembly of god church volunteered the use of their adjacent building (looks like a huge cafeteria) and things couldn't have gone any smoother.
we were in and out in less than 5 minutes because we'd already filled out the forms.. it struck me that this is something jehovah's witnesses would probably never do -- offer their facilities for some public service.. yes, i've been out for some 32 years.
has anything changed?.

AT&T billing problem -- a 411 scam?
by Fatfreek inmy wife and i never use 411 (directory assistance) yet during the last several months our main cell phone number has been issued a charge for 1 or 2 instances of using 411. no big deal, right?
well, we're retired and tend to watch (yes, we've got the time to do it) every dollar that goes out.. hey -- why would we even use 411 when we can use either of 2 free (except for minutes used) directory assistance services, one of them by google.
both of these numbers are in our speed dialing list so it's too convenient not to use them.. each time, i call at&t customer service that person patiently and kindly credits the charges to the next billing cycle.

Toilet tissue a-streaming -- honest!
by Fatfreek inseveral weeks ago i was behind a lady and her husband in line at a mcdonalds in arkadelphia, ar.
this was a saturday morning and they were, in turn, behind a jw group who was getting its energy snacks in order to endure the strenuous activity ahead.. i was tempted to tap the lady on the shoulder and quietly tell her -- or do the same with her husband at risk of getting a black eye.
i remained silent and quietly giggled.. .

Time's running out for free Windows 7 free upgrade
by Fatfreek init wasn't easy.. last july i bought a new hp desktop with the vista home premium operating system.
the reason was simple -- according to the ad, as a new buyer i would be entitled to a free update to the yet-to-be-released (and highly touted) operating system, windows 7.. .
today i decided to go for it as i knew time was running out (end of december is deadline).

Hanky panky in the cockpit (pun intended)
by Fatfreek ini must admit my suspicion that there may have been a bit of hanky panky going on within the cockpit (pun intended) during that recent flight - the one where those two northwest airlines pilots overflew the twin cities by 150 miles.. before considering my proposed, and admittedly wacky scenario, let's ponder the following facts.. 1. said one aviation safety consultant, "... in a car, this would be like missing your highway exit by 20 miles ..." what's that, 15 to 20 minutes?
hey -- that's not really much time.. 2. they were in an older plane where the cockpit voice recorder was limited in length to the last 30 minutes of cockpit audio, a perfect alibi for a cockpit party.
that makes it possible to automatically erase incriminating audio details.. let's say that the moments of passion are over and the players (by the way, there were 3 flight attendants on that flight.

Arkansas radio talk show short on ethics?
by Fatfreek inas most of you know, i live in arkansas.
each saturday morning my wife and i listen to a call-in radio show for an hour.
the show is mostly about home energy efficiency - proper calking, insulation - i know, boring stuff.
