Anakin, thanks for the information. So, two million Italians regularly watch that program even though it's not highly respected. That's great in this instance because the information in yesterday's program was true about the Italian WT organization covering up molestation; and it's also true that the public, for the most part, will avoid JWs after what they saw and heard. Can't ask for better than that.

Doomsday Clock: 'Three minutes' left until the apocalypse
The Doomsday Clock, a symbolic countdown to the world’s end, stands still at three minutes until midnight, scientists announced Tuesday.
It remains at the position it moved to one year ago.
That the clock moves no closer to midnight, the indicated end of humanity, remains "grave" news, its makers stressed.
"Unless we change the way we think, humanity remains in serious danger," said Lawrence Krauss of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the nonprofit that sets the clock.
"Action now can reduce these threats," he said at an announcement in Washington, "but only if we recognize them honestly and face them head-on."Manhattan Project scientists, concerned about the first atomic weapons, founded the nonprofit Bulletin in 1945. They created the clock two years later, and update its minute hand each year.
Just how the minute hand moves is determined by the Bulletin’s boards of directors and sponsors, which include environmental scientists, physicists and 18 Nobel Laureates, its site notes.

Oh, how this news article brought back memories from long ago. For me the most interesting thing about the Watchtower letter posted in the article is the date on it - November 29, 1969. I remember the surprise I had reading the letter when it was posted on the Information Board in the Kingdom Hall in West Palm Beach, Florida, where we lived then.
The reason for my surprise in 1969 was because sometime in the winter of 1958-1959, when I was going in field service in Palm Beach, Florida, I met a very nice man in a gorgeous waterfront home who greeted me warmly when he opened his door. After I told him I was one of JWs, he said he had just left Brooklyn, NY, where he had a meeting with "my boss, Nathan!" I said, "Nathan who?" "Nathan Knorr," he replied. (By the way, this fellow had a very heavy Jewish accent.) He told me that the meeting he had with "Nathan" was about the Watchtower buying the Squibb Buildings and they were negotiating the price. At the time, I was engaged to Joe Anderson, a Bethelite, and I called him to tell him the news that WT was purchasing the Squibb buildings. I remember how much fun it was to tell him some WT news about Bethel before he knew about it!
However, I found out in 1969 from that letter hanging on the KH Information Board, that's when they closed the deal. I can only wonder why the deal fell through back in late 1950s. I told the Bethel Family about this experience when Joe, our son, Lance, and I were interviewed at a Bethel Family Night in November 1991. You might find it funny to hear me explain my experience in a video that was given to us as a gift the next day . http://watchtowerdocuments.org/media-room/

Here’s a fun blast from the past. After reading our post last week on how the Jehovah’s Witnesses came to Brooklyn, a Brownstoner tipster sent us the 1969 letter mailed out by Witness President Nathan H. Knorr when the organization bought their largest buildings in Brooklyn Heights.
Posted to church members around the globe, the letter thanked everyone involved for helping purchase the former pharmaceuticals complex — which was promptly put to use as paper storage. The letter also mentions the installation of the now-iconic Watchtower sign.
Today, these buildings are some of the most valuable sites in Brooklyn. And a number of these same buildings just went up for sale last year.

A bill filed Tuesday would remove a legal shield in Tennessee for parents who reject medical treatment for children in favor of treatment by prayer.
It is a crime in Tennessee to fail to provide medical care to children, with an exception, known as the Spiritual Treatment Exemption Act, for parents who want to rely on "spiritual means through prayer alone," according to state code. State Sen. Richard Briggs, R-Knoxville, filed SB 1761 to repeal the exception.
One possible use would be if a parent refuses a blood transfusion after an accident then custody of the child could be transferred to the state to allow the transfusion then transferred back to the parent, said Briggs, referencing occasions if the parent is a Jehovah's Witness and opposed to transfusions, even in life-saving circumstances.

Brooklyn news on sending the elderly packing
by I am a Bible Student injohnny the bethelite on this program talks about the older bethelites being targeted by watchtower.they are getting rid of those at bethel who are 65-87 years old, some being anointed even the widows of former governing body members who gave decades of loyal service time to the watchtower organization.. the reasons the very elderly are being expelled are money in that for their age range they cost so much to cloth, fed, and medicate, having problems from high blood pressure to dementia.
they include persons such as sister henschel whose husband had been a watchtower president and marian sydlik whose parents are long dead.. https://soundcloud.com/rick-fearon/jan-16-2016-johnny-the-bethelite-watchtower-insider-host-his-radio-program-from-brooklyn-ny .

I have not verified what "Johnny the Bethelite" is claiming regarding elderly Bethelites being shown the door. I heard about his claim a few weeks ago but wanted verification, so said nothing. However, when given the opportunity to speak to Johnny early last Sunday morning on a Six Screens Conference Call, I accepted. No matter what I asked, Johnny stuck to his story. I told him that if what he was saying was true, I was horrified, etc. I asked him to call me at home. He said he would. He hasn't as yet.
Time will tell if what "Johnny" is saying is true. Although, if the elderly Bethelites are extremely loyal even though asked to leave Bethel, they might not go public with the news. I suppose, we'll know if this is factual information, if in a few weeks other JWs verify it on their discussion boards, etc.
And if it's true, WT leaders are making a big mistake because at this time, many, many JWs are elderly themselves and loyal to the memory of the deceased old guard and loyal to their widows. To think that the wives of the deceased GB, and other hard-working widows of men who were in positions of authority, people I happen to have had pleasant association with when we all were younger, are being asked to leave Bethel is difficult to accept. If this is true, I believe there will be an uproar from many of the older, influential JWs.
Personally, I find it difficult to believe the present WT leaders want the elderly to vacate Bethel. But if they do, I can't imagine them not making a concerted effort to place them - 108 of them - in proper accommodations with willing family and JW friends. However that might be difficult since many of these people have outlived their relatives and friends. We are of the opinion that we need more information before we make unfair statements and pass judgment.
Johnny said that some of the elderly have dementia and others are very ill needing lots of expensive medicine and care; plus, many of them constantly complain about this group of GB members and their decisions that are changing the organization. He said it is for these reasons the decision-makers at Bethel want these people out of their hair.
Somehow or the other, I want to believe that he's mistaken and that they will not be put out. Both Joe and I are very disturbed, to put it mildly, over Johnny's claim.

Another judge criticizes Jehovah’s Witnesses’ court tactics
By Trey Bundy / January 11, 2016
A panel of judges in Philadelphia has ruled that Jehovah’s Witnesses used an “abusive tactic” to delay a trial in which a woman accused the religion’s leaders of covering up her abuse as a child.
The Witnesses’ parent corporation, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, had won a motion in a lower court to move the case from Philadelphia to York County, which currently has the largest backlog of civil cases in Pennsylvania.
The Watchtower argued that holding the trial in Philadelphia would burden witnesses who would have to travel to testify. The appellate panel overruled the lower court, calling the Watchtower’s motion a “last-minute gambit to delay trial.”
In her opinion, Judge Patricia Jenkins refers to the Watchtower and other defendants as “the Congregations.”
“The facts strongly suggest that the motion ... Read More
