  Why JWs avoid sharing in toasts vs. wikipedia

  so i stubled on the following image on gbletters site.

  you have to love how the watchtower uses circular reasoning quoting from older watchtower articles to reinforce their points.

  i thought i would have a look myself to see what the toast signifies and its history this was very surprising.

  ok, now I truly am doubting the honesty of the WT on this toasting quote...in the new release they says:

  The

  1995 International Handbook on Alcohol and Culture says: "Toasting ... is probably a secular vestige of ancient sacrificial libations in which a sacred liquid was offered to the gods ... in exchange for a wish, a prayer summarized in the words 'long life!' or 'to your health!'"

  Ellipsis after toasting...it makes me wonder if what is quoted after the word "Toasting" is truly connected to the word "Toasting".

  In the WT QFR mentioned on governingbodyletters.blogspot.com this quotes is used but appears this way:

  "{Toasting} is probably a secular vestige of ancient sacrificial libations in which a sacred liquid was offered to the gods ... in exchange for a wish, a prayer summarized in the words 'long life!' or 'to your health!'"

  This time it is bracketed- meaning inserted by the WT..but not in the original quote. LOL We know how the WT likes to play with brackets don't we.

  birthdays in new release WT pub

  a subtle difference in the new book....it says something like "the bible reports negatively on birthdays- especially in the case of john the baptist...".

  they are subtly admitting that the gen account does not strongly put b-days in a bad light and choose to focus on john the baptist.

  obviously if they paid attention to the man spared and the results of that the gen 40:20 account would be positive.. yet they also now added the comments attributing birthdays to satanism..... .

  Yes the WT seems to control it members more effectively thru namecalling and titles....such as apostate, pagan, Satanism...etc

  Instead of having to prove/back up their points against birthdays they hit them with a label that will automatically make members back away from them. Much the same way a member labeled an apostate is avoided rather than listened to in hopes of refuting.

  So do they seem to be abandoning the typical "only 2 b-days are mentioned in the Bible, both of which resulted in murder...." to now briefly state John the Baptist and then stress me-ism and Satanism?

  Condescending Style of the book Keep Yourselves in God's Love

  atlantis has posted a download link for the 2008 book release, "keep yourselves in god's love".

  i read a page or so from the book, and the first thing i notices is the simple language used that sounds like it is written to be read by a little child who is in elemenatary school.. the styel if very condescending and actually is insulting as if the reader is expected to have a very low level of intelligence or reading ability.. what is going on?

  why is bethel printing such material?.

  I question their honesty in their quotes supporting their stance on toasting. Alot of ellipsis in there. I am hoping someone can get this source and tell us what words the wt left out.

  2. major organizational changes about to start rolling out, one is changes to the "service committee" and titles, po to be done away with, thats all i know for now.

  was told that if you are the sort of person that cant handle changes, you wont stay in the org for long.

  OK, I have heard more.
  
  1. CO's are going for sure. Responsible elders will be assigned a congregation to serve a Friday to Sunday. Friday night is mid week meeting, Saturday is field service then elders meeting, pioneer meeting. Sunday as usual. Half the reason why sunday meeting are shorter and book study dropped is to support this new arrangement.

  What is mid week meeting? Jefferywhat said "Friday night is mid week meeting".
