The fallacy of 'spirituality'.
by nicolaou inleaving the watchtower does not mean leaving god.
many here have been able to maintain a relationship with god without the need for a set of beliefs or a creed or any organised system of worship at all.
no churches, meeting halls or study groups are necessary just a deeply held conviction in the goodness of god and the value of a personal relationship with him.. such believers often stress 'spirituality' over religion.. now i don't mean to denigrate anyone's beliefs and no offence is intended but really, is a 'spiritual' approach to life any better for our mental and emotional well-being than being part of an organised religion?

It is the ideology that allows and nurtures the radicalisation of Extremists, the clue is in the last word, you could not have extremists if there were not the more moderate ones.
Which is my point; there are moderates in any ideology, of which the extremists are not a fair representation.

A straw man is a common type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on the misrepresentation of an opponent's argument. [ 1 ] To be successful, a straw man argument requires that the audience be ignorant or uninformed of the original argument.
The so-called typical "attacking a straw man" argument creates the illusion of having completely refuted or defeated an opponent's proposition by covertly replacing it with a different proposition (i.e., "stand up a straw man") and then to refute or defeat that false argument ("knock down a straw man") instead of the original proposition. [ 2 ] [ 3 ]
This technique has been used throughout history in polemical debate, particularly in arguments about highly charged emotional issues where a fiery, entertaining "battle" and the defeat of an "enemy" may be more valued than critical thinking or understanding both sides of the issue.
What would you consider is being misrepresented here?

This was the attitude of Joshua's baby-killers, and the crusaders, and the conquistadors, and the inquisitors and the Taliban and ISIS.
This is why theism is not just silly, it is dangerous and ought to be opposed and ridiculed relentlessly.
I might suggest that not all christians are murderers, from my observations.
Fanatics and extremists rain on any parade of course but these exist on most sides of a fence. That Stalin was atheist and killed millions for an ideology does not make atheism evil.
Is it the ideology or the person that makes something dangerous?

Question for the nonbelievers and atheists
by nykid inwhat specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?
was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

What specifically made you stop believing in God and the Bible?
The problem of evil
Lack of evidence, or rather, redefining what evidence really is
The history of and division on both subjects
Sex, drugs and rock n roll
Was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the Bible was not what it's claimed to be?
My doubts began in my early teens and by the end of them, I left the religion. Leaving belief completely took a bit longer but it was interesting to explore other angles and try to understand other people's beliefs. It still is, actually
I do recall significant events, discussions and personal revelations along the way that swayed my convictions but no one particular "aha" moment.

of course, only a christian would say the god of the bible is the almighty, yes?
thus, this thread is for Christians only, all other possibilities are not recognized here

On Tattoos
by tim hooper intattoos may look great for a while on a young person, but as you get older they'll just look plain stupid.
your credibility will fade as you and your tattoo age together.
your skin will be permanently stuck in a timewarp, like some old newspaper headline that once meant something but later becomes meaningless.
