in light of the young Jehovahs Witness man in Scotland, possibly from Hamilton, that just committed suicide during the summer District Convention.
BTTT.
lately, i've come to find out that a more than a few people in the area had killed themselves.
most of the people i know of were in their early twenties or forties.
for those loved ones surviving them, it was mostly a shock!
in light of the young Jehovahs Witness man in Scotland, possibly from Hamilton, that just committed suicide during the summer District Convention.
BTTT.
i just noticed that the august 2012 "our kingdom ministry" has at the bottom of the last page a two dimensional bar code!.
when did that start?.
is the watchtower putting bar codes on its other publications as well?.
printing the QR code will enable the Watchtower to collect certain data about the type of phone, Operating System, time and location of scan (location within certain limits - jeffro and I have debated this before :-))
if the person scanning also logs in to jw.org from the same phone then the Watchtower can conflate the data and can infer who is making subsequent scans, even if you are no longer logged in to jw.org
without logging in to jw.org there is no personally identifiable data passed just by scanning the QR code
My guess is there is nothing sinister and they are just using their free print real estate to encourage people towards jw.org - the cost of adding the QR code is zero.
i was thinking what a crushing blow it would be to the organization if the warwick project was stalled or held up in court.
many times a project will run into legal challenges over environmental issues or a lack of planning on the social-traffic- air quality - noise impacts.
political pressure on the council also can create headaches for the project proponents.. i saw a community once that had an indian casino planned.
innoculation of the general public and lurkers via education on sites like this and jwfacts.com is the most productive use of time
direct action will almost certainly fail and would feed their persecution complex.
I was talking with a true-believer JW the other day and when I mentioned their biggest problem was their inconsequential irrelevance to society at large, there was a kind of 'don't hurt me' look in their eyes. They know it really, just don't like to hear it spoken out loud.
i'm out of the jw religion, but still have trouble thinking critically.
when i was in, i had no idea what a logical fallacy was, i used all sorts of false arguments, yes, even "if man evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?".
i would fall for just about everything.
these books are easy to read and will give you a great start:

this weeks km disscusses the topic of why jehovah's witnesses are not false prophets.. on page 136 and 137 of the reasoning book, it asks and answers the following question:.
have not jehovahs witnesses made errors in their teachings?.
jehovahs witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets.
*
Have not The Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses made errors in their teachings?
The Governing Body Jehovah’s Witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets. They have made mistakes. Like the apostles of Jesus Christ, they have at times had some wrong expectations.—Luke 19:11; Acts 1:6.
The Scriptures provide time elements related to Christ’s presence, and the Governing Body Jehovah’s Witnesses have studied these with keen interest. (Luke 21:24; Dan. 4:10-17) Jesus also described a many-featured sign that would tie in with the fulfillment of time prophecies to identify the generation that would live to see the end of Satan’s wicked system of things. (Luke 21:7-36) The Governing Body Jehovah’s Witnesses have pointed to evidence in fulfillment of this sign. It is true that the the Governing Body Witnesses have made mistakes in their understanding of what would occur at the end of certain time periods, but they have not made the mistake of losing faith or ceasing to be watchful as to fulfillment of Jehovah’s purposes. They have continued to keep to the fore in their thinking the counsel given by Jesus: “Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”—Matt. 24:42.
Matters on which corrections of viewpoint have been needed have been relatively minor when compared with the vital Bible truths that they have discerned and publicized. Among these are the following: Jehovah is the only true God. Jesus Christ is not part of a Trinitarian godhead but is the only-begotten Son of God. Redemption from sin is possible only through faith in Christ’s ransom sacrifice. The holy spirit is not a person but is Jehovah’s active force, and its fruitage must be evident in the lives of true worshipers. The human soul is not immortal, as the ancient pagans claimed; it dies, and the hope for future life is in the resurrection. God’s permission of wickedness has been because of the issue of universal sovereignty. God’s Kingdom is the only hope for mankind. Since 1914 we have been living in the last days of the global wicked system of things. Only 144,000 faithful Christians will be kings and priests with Christ in heaven, whereas the rest of obedient mankind will receive eternal life on a paradise earth
Fixed that for you - Jehovahs Witnesses are not allowed to point to anything, claim anything, have wrong expectations, point to evidence or make mistakes.
They can "listen, obey and be blessed"
The Governing Body on the other hand can make all the claims they like - should it prove to be fresh bullshit then suddenly there is a transubstantiation of Catholic proportions...
i'm thinking this site will be shuting down due to gb policy so grab them while you can.. http://www.centralprint.net/jwtalks/covisits/docovisits.html.

william c baxterhate what jehovah hates
it isn't much, only a small piece on page 23 of sunday's sun newspaper .
for our colonial cousins the sun is a highbrow , well respected national daily newspaper , well national daily anyway .
on sunday it printed a small article about what it describes as a jehovah's witness paedophile whose sex crimes had been hushed up by his church .
*The DAILY MAIL is read by people racist fascists who want to run the country until Hitler gets back.

@steve2
However, the Sun is not what I would consider a "well respected" newspaper: it tends to go for the lowest common denominator with an emphasis on sensationalism (with its screaming front page headlines) and titillation
I am willing to trade quality for quantity - The Sun is what it is and is read by 7m UK adults. I am equally to happy to see JW exposes in the Daily Mail - a trash rag I truly despise. At least The Sun has a sense of humour.
One thing I am unclear on is whether these JW paedophile stories are making it into the print editions or are online only.
i've not been on here for quite some time, due to personal reasons.. i have been dating a wonderful man for nearly 11 months now.
he's a non-practicing cofe christian.
i am a recently inactive jw (oh, how i regret getting baptized at 15).. my dad is an elder.
You and your guy could do worse than reading Steve Hassans books.
i continue to puzzle over the future direction the watchtower is taking.
it seems very strange.. let's review: they are selling everything off in brooklyn, raking in huge sums from that real estate and building heavily in a fairly isolated part of upstate ny.. why?.
it may be classified as a country club (legally).
thanks jefft and jakeM2012 - interesting calcs.
My guesstimate was based as follows:
Page 111 indicates the proposed project would be buildings of 1,140,200 sq ft and parking garage 341,000 sq ft. (there are some pretty pictures of what the development will look like around page 90)
Divide sq ft by 10 to get sq m.
Turner & Townsend International Construction Cost Survey 2012 gives the following per internal sq m estimates for the US on page 37 (2011):
Residential private medium density Apartments $1600
Aged care/affordable units $1550
Offices – business park $1800
Hotel Three-star travellers $1575
Hotel Five-star luxury $2600
Hotel Resort style $2300
Multistorey carpark – above ground $700
Multistorey carpark – below ground $1315
$2k for building and $1k for carparks seemed to be a fair guess allowing for quite a bit of free labor and cost overruns.
Therefore $228m +$34m = $250m give or take.
