I use to have a lot of guilt. Mostly buying into the mentality it was *my* fault I can't be an active part of my family anymore. Not any longer though. It was probably about a 10 year process but I don't feel anything but pity for all of them.

Yes, this totally should be reported. That poor child.
This kind of behavior was common occurrance when and where I grew up. My Dad had a huge wooden paddle that he used on us kids with regularity. I remember one time trying to contain my screams and after about 10 whacks (this was a big heavy thing mind you) he yelled, "You better start screaming!"... so obviously I did. But it didn't stop.... 10-15 more whacks.... he says... "Ok, you better stop screaming now!".
Sadistic. I can't even count the times I hid bruises underneath long clothing and refusing to take showers in gym class. And I know I wasn't the only one even within just my congregation. I was too terrified to tell a teacher or adult myself. I just knew it would make it worse. And everyone knew about it and some even whispered at how bad it was. But no one did anything....

what's in it for the women???
by chelsea ini have often wondered what's in it for the women???
i just read the story of minimus and it is so clear that such power and privilege on offer to males in the borg would be enticing and probably addictive... but the women will never have such offers or opportunities.
they will always be required to be in subjection.

I was lucky enough to get out early, pre marriage, dating and all that. But as far as understanding that the average JW woman not having any rights or any lot in life aside from door knocking and being a broodmare for future contributors... I had been too indoctrinated to know it could be any different. It took a looooong time to get the idea out of my head that the husbands word is law and my only future was in being domesticated.

Proof of Fake Spirit Medium on Most Haunted
by Sirona ini didn't know about this scandal until the last day or two.. derek acorah who stars as a spirit medium on most haunted, was set up recently.
basically a skeptic on the show made sure that before he visited a venue for psychic investigation, he was given fake names of people who were supposedly attached to the property but who are now dead.. the fake names were anagrams of "derek lies" and "faker derek" etc.. he pretended to have a trance and said these false names as though they were coming from the spirit world.. here is the "proof":.

Needproof- Ciaran O'keefe is the teams parapsychologist and resident skeptic. He's the only individual on the show who is anywhere close to being grounded. (The rest are loonie) Before this particular show was actually being taped, he 'suggested' to Derek Accorah, the teams Psychic and Drama Queen, that there was a ghost by the name of "Kreed Kafer" (which was an anagram of "Derek Faker") in this house. Derek took the bait and became "possessed" by said fake ghost, proving Ciaran's point that suggestion is very powerful, and more importantly, Derek was a fraud.

Although I must say I'm addicted to the show, more because I LOVE history and castles and such, I think this guy was the biggest fraud ever. I believe this happened at least a year or two ago, and he's since gone on to host his own show, which doesn't seem to be a fraction as popular as Most Haunted was. In fact, I haven't seen it on the Travel Channel here in the US recently, I wouldn't be suprised to hear the show totally tanked. Good riddance.
As far as paranormal research, I'm a closet "Ghost Hunters" junkie. I love how they try to disprove everything first before they'll entertain the notion of the paranormal. And they'll run *towards* unexplained sounds, rather than acting like big babies when someones as much as farts in the dark.

Has anyone been in one of the dramas while a JW?
by Nowman init probably was one of my few happy moments of being a jw.
my mom, dad, and i were asked to be in the modern day drama, think it was in 1988-1990 (not sure exactly).
i played a worldly girl named "dolly winters" who was considered a bold and brazon girl who eventually studied to become one of jws because of a good example jw that she went to school with.

On re-reading your first post... it very well could have been the same one. I didn't remember the part about studying at the end, but it very well could have been part of the story. Gosh, I haven't thought about that drama in ages!

Nowman- It could be. I don't remember the whole premise of the story. The main character in mine was a young man struggling with wanting to have "one foot in the world" by playing on his school's sports team. I played a bit part, one scene where I have a short conversation with this boy at school and encourage him on this bad course. If I remember right, it was basically implied that I was a little jezebel designed to seduce him. I don't remember her name though. I just remember I was a baaaad girl!

I was in a drama in the late 80's. I was in my early teens and played a bad worldly girl who almost tempted a fine upstanding Witness youth off the path of righteousness. I remember having to do tons of rehersals also, but at that point I didn't mind at all. The drama was actually quite fun for me. I got to wear a leather jacket, teased out hair and tons of makeup. At the time I felt like a movie star with all the attention it got me. (I was starved for it)
What I hated doing, and always got stuck doing, was having to do real speaking parts in assemblies. For some reason I was always involved in one (due to the lack of upstanding youth in my area? I don't know...) and they were so hard to do because of the crappy sound systems. You would hear yourself echoing back and it made it really hard to keep your train of thought.
