Oh my gosh, we have a glass pickle for our tree! This is too funny to me! I had actually never heard of it and one of my ex-inlaws had sent it up for my girls. They are Polish and she told me it was a Polish tradition, and we've done it every year. Regardless, it's fun, but it's very interesting to note that it's an urban myth thats even mutated over time.

The Truth About the "German" Christmas Pickle Tradition
by GermanXJW inwhen i was recently in the us, i was asked if it was true that we put a pickle/cucumber in our christmas tree for the kids to search for.. the answer was: no, and hardly anyone in germany has ever heard about that custom.. the truth is that some people from the us do this believing it to be a german tradition.
believe me, it is not.. here is a report on the origin (seems to be a clever marketing idea):.

I think it's pretty serious.
It's just like any problem... the first step to fixing a problem is admitting there *is* one. We will never be able to start getting past these social issues both individually and world wide until it's acknowledged, accepted, and embraced as an issue. Like I tell my kids... Putting your head in the sand will only get you dirt in your ears...
Ok, that's hokey, but I'm sure you understand the point. :)
As far as people denying the Jewish holocaust? I can't even wrap my brain around that one. Again... there is a great lesson to be learned from these events, if only people remember and accept the truth about it. History class isn't just for sleeping anymore, you actually might learn something about yourself through the stories of others...

I'll just have to say "D-All of the Above"
One novel I'd love to see done CORRECTLY into a movie or good Sci-Fi Channel mini series is "Battlefield Earth". That story just can't be whittled down to two or three hours and it needs a good budget. The current movie is horrendous and cheesy. Done right it would be fantastic.

I've never heard this story... but I've got to say it's not the first time I've heard a death-row come-to-Jesus story. I think it's actually probably quite common.
This part struck me as funny though-
At the morgue he demanded to see the face of his son as accorded by law.
They took him in, along with Br. Islop, and he saw the face of his dead son. He saw the changes Nekata had made and what he stood for and he said he must have had the truth! If this man was hung like the story said... his face wouldn't be a pretty sight....
Maybe I misunderstood that part?

GG/BG & OFG Sitting in a Tree.....
by OpenFireGlass inwhere the hell have i been?
ummmmmmmm... i've been in love!.
it's been so long i don't even know where to begin...... well... i guess it all began here at jwd... the beauty of it all, it that this is not a dating website, and the very fact that i was falling in love with a person whom i had no idea of her physical appearance... i was falling for her inner beauty and strenght to leave everything she knew to be happy, to live life.... i had finally met a person who understood me, and i could relate to her stories.... i had met my new best friend, but didn't know it yet... things progressed..... we emailed (which later led to unsolicited photos from her).... then exchanged phone numbers, etc..... then before i know it she had convinced me to purchace an airplaine ticket to meet her.

A Letter from a disfellowshipped JW
by reneeisorym inthere was a disfellowshipped jw that came to the witness now for jesus convention in pennsylvania.
we all tried to show him the error of the jw way but he is just so blinded that he couldn't understand what the problem is with jws (can you believe it?!
) we tried until we were blue in the face and it seemed that with every step we went forward with him one day, we went back two the next.

Ewwwww..... his reply back is even creepier!
It's almost as if in his mind you two had some sort of relationship... the reference to you not loving your boyfriend (?) and being attracted to him. I agree with the rest as far as potential scary stalker. This guy is fruit loops. If he persists tell him you'll be contacting the elders in his area and report him for this activity, along with contacting the cops. (Stalking an apostate? That breaks rules on all sorts of levels!) That'll set the clock back on his reinstatement if nothing else.

OMG- I'm still stuck on the fact that he called you fat. What an insensitive A-hole.
Otherwise, all he did was spout rhetoric with no facts or even scriptures cited or referenced. He's regurgitating with no thought whatsoever. Speaking of a dog returning to it's own vomit....

So little knowledge
by grissom6471 inso many people here and so little knowledge of jehovah's witnesses.
there are still people here associating jehovah's witnesses with the watchtower society when that is not the case.
so many people look to the past not the future.

At least he didn't consistently claim that our disagreement is because we are not well tuned to Bible teachings. I actually agree with this statement, I am very poorly tuned to JW teachings. And how thankful I am that I can honestly say that.
AuldSoul- I actually hadn't thought of it along those lines... You're totally right! I was more thinking along the lines of... "I'm very well aware of your teachings, but still think it's a load of crap, so where does that leave me?" You can spend half a lifetime "in tune" and still come away disagreeing. But, yes, you totally have it spot on... there is a big difference in being in tune with bible teachings and basing your life on what a publishing company prints.
