what argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?
where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?
i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.
I just wonder why they only applied this scripture to meetings and service? It doesn't specify WHEN this rule is supposed to be effective... to me it implies all the time. If they're going to apply this scripture to modern days, I would think it would mean NEVER wear pants, not just to meetings.
Goes to show another case of pulling scriptures out of their posteriors to make a point that wasn't intended to be made.
i'm just curious to know where my parents register on the scale of strictness...
growing up, i felt absolutely smothered by my parents (mostly my mother).
the things i couldn't do were above and beyond the limitations put on the other young people in our hall.
Not that I would wish my childhood on ANYONE, but in some odd way it gives me comfort to know that their were others out there with weird childhoods just like mine.

i'd say that the biggest advantage of being a jw is that you learn the bible.
growing up a jw (never baptized), i had many friends (mostly catholic) who didn't even know where most books of the bible were even located.
jws really do learn and study the bible and this knowledge becomes very helpful once you start looking at the bible more objectively and not with wts binders.

So true... my husband and I love trivia games and play them alot with friends. Anytime a bible question comes up he rolls his eyes. He knows I'll know the answer. My friends are always amazed I know this stuff. After so many years of it wouldn't you too? lol

There was a girl in one of the congregations we attended for about five years when I was growing up who was so "BAD" . She was never baptized and was well known for flaunting authority. It was even rumored she smoked.... oh horror of horrors! All the "good" girls in the congregation steered well clear of her, since she was such "bad association". I was the leader of a pack of good girls, being the elders daughter of the group and she was the leader of all the others. I was such a brown-noser it's sickening to think about. We hated eachother with a passion. The whole situation was right out of "The Outsiders". The preppy do-gooders and the baddies.
We moved from that congregation to another and four years later I left home and the Witnesses. Two years after that I went to visit my Grandma and attended a meeting with her. I about fell out of my chair when my Grandma pointed out this girl- (now a woman), and told me she was a Pioneer and married to an Elder. At that point I was a runaway who turned her back on the JWs and married an unbeliever. I still laugh to think about it.
I still think I got the better end of the deal!

i have realized lately that i am far less "preachy" than i used to be and as a result, i do not feel as far up my own backside as i used to.. i think my ego is finally, finally, becoming easier to whip and control.
i grew tired of hearing my own voice.. do you feel this way?.
I never did have a desire to preach, despite being indoctrinated from birth. Like someone else already said- it didn't feel "natural". Deep down I always felt there was something useless about the whole thing, and in 17 years of my life I never once brought anyone to the "truth". After that time, I have been a member of about three different community churches (due to moving) and have had a part in several people becoming Christians. (But then, I don't take the credit! )
I didn't do this by knocking on their doors, but having a true enthusiasm for my worship. It's nice to feel comfortable in your own skin!

i was just reading thelisteners post from an earlier thread, and it got me thinking just how little time dubs have to associate togther.. it seems to be more and more the fact, that the only time dubs see each other to "associate" - if you can even call it that - is at meetings and conventions.. even at conventions though, the dubs are told not to go outside for lunch, regardless of whether it is a nice day of not.
(note, this may not be true at all conventions).
where is a jehovah's witness supposed to get this period of refreshment so he can do more?

there has been a number of discussions lately about not just accepting being shunned by family so i was thinking why not set aside a yearly day to get in touch with family...send a card,text,email to parents and siblings etc not saying anything controversial...just being nice..saying we miss them we love them and anytime they want to meet or write or visit they would be more than welcome..it other words dont treat them like they treat you..do you think that it is a good idea...if so reply here but also spread the word.....if this has been suggested before please excuse me...im new to the world.
lets make it 10th of may every year...dont think there are any other holidays on that date
Heh, yeah, I think I'll send everyone Christmas cards this year...
It'll keep them busy for months trying to clean the "demunz" out of their houses and mailboxes
