Beyond JWs was the first one I went to. The thing that really grabbed me there was the DA Letter because it bullet pointed issues I was not even aware of yet.
Then WT Observer was next. A UK Site that I don't think is even running anymore. (We need another site like that one.)
From there I think I got referred to some of Alan F's stuff and from there went to exJW.net and Freeminds.
After that I was looking for a forum to discuss issues. I found one and poked around for awhile and there was just a lot of inside jokes, dirty jokes and porn. Not that I'm against any of those things, but the JW stuff was priority so I moved on and kept searching.
That's when I found JWD. A little more focused and the "Best Of" threads kept me up for whole nights compiling stuff and downloading scans.

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU HEARD IT ALL!!! THIS IS SICK!!!
by Lady Liberty inmy mother called me last night and shared with me something my dad just discovered in doing some research on the internet.
it is out of the book published by the wathchtower in 1966, entitled, "life everlasting in freedom of the sons of god".. my parents have the book, and listen to what was written about adam and bestiality.... page 45, para.
before god created anything new, a woman, god left the man free to determine whether there was a suitable companion for him among all the lower animals.

For Newbies: EXCELLENT Judicial meeting with LOTS of info!!
by Lady Liberty inthought i would bump to the top this excellent tape recording of a judicial meeting.
you will find the person "on trial" has bneen a elder himself.
once he realised things were not adding up he ended up disassociating himself along with his wife.

When I realized I wanted out of the JWs I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I was not going to be able to present a rational argument to my wife regarding my choices. I was just trying to figure out what to do with my life after I left.
However, this audio from the Townsends is the thing that made me say to myself, "You know what ... I think I am gonna take a crack at this!"
Their reasonableness and obvious desire for honesty is the thing that struck me. Those were the qualities I tried to carry over to my situation.

Gregor,
I know you probably didn't mean it as harsh as it sounds, but you have to remember this was done in the mid-80's - well before the ease of finding information on the Internet. People like the Townsends that had the nerve to question when they REALLY DID feel like they were the ONLY ONES out there. Man, I am so in awe of that.
It is people like the Townsends that paved the way for the current crops of people leaving.

Who Will Be The Next President Of The USA?
by minimus ini wouldn't be surprised if hillary makes it.
i hope not, though..

We need a president who doesn't appear to be "handled" and that seems real. We need a president who seems like he is saying what he really means. We need a president who is upfront about his policy (i.e. the only reason we are supporting Israel so much is that the religious right feels that the rebirth of the nation of Israel is a prelude to Christ returning.) -ithinkisee

Yes, I loved this. The first time I listened to it I still hadn't decided I was done with the JWs for sure yet. When I listened to it I was shaking and nervous like I was doing something really wrong. After I listened to it I realized how retarded the elders were. The curtain began falling for me then. Definitely a must-listen. I have been trying to track them down and thank them for recording that. I am sure it has helped a lot of people. Anyone know where they are now? -dm

The Christmas Star
by praiseband injw literature tries to persuade us that the star was actually sent by satan to guide the evil magi to the site of jesus and his family.
yet, the bible tells us in genesis that god was the creator of all the stars in the heavens.
nowhere that i am familiar with does the bible state that satan made any of the stars or any other celestial object.

One of the best explanations I ever found was this series of mock dialogue:
Was the star of Bethlehem Satan's Star?

Actually... Organized Religion that believes in supernatural deities could be considered a self-righteous kind of thinking. TO say you have the truth or that you need to accept Jesus and there is no other path is self-righteous. The same goes for any other religion that claims their way is the only way.
Groups (like Humanists) that are willing to accept that long-held beliefs are wrong when faced with new evidence as proof is one of the least self-righteous things a person can do. They are not necessarily "anti-God" either. Most people, including 'religion's-number-one-enemy-of-the-moment' Richard Dawkins (insert scary noises here) would be happy to believe in God if the evidence did not strongly support the contrary. (I'm sure most modern Christian leaders are wishing the Early Church Fathers had destroyed more books and records critical of the Church than they did. There is still too much incriminating evidence out there.)
It takes a lot of humility to say that you might have been wrong all along - something our current president seems to have a hard time acknowledging.

Why is it so many Men agree to take on the Position of an Elder?
by restrangled ini just wonder because with the stresses of earning a living, taking care of immediate family, and getting in little free time that is available, why would anyone want to take on this extra job at no charge, answer to more bosses, and be submited to endless critisizing behind your back for decisions.
it just seems crazy.. r..

Approval.
Many people feel they need external approval as proof that God loves them.
It is a nice feeling to be a window washer or janitor and be told God is using you and has a purpose for you. -
