When it was rumored/stated that someone died at an assembly or meeting (I was a child) I was told it was fortunate for them to die there as surely they were pleasing to j by just being there and were now in line for resurection for sure. How much better than at some other time/place??!!!!!
Never was there expressed any sympathy for family or friends only reasurrance of a resurection. Ick! just writing that makes me ill!

Back to the '63 Rose Bowl. That was the only convention I actually worked at. I was the change person in a food booth. The sellers would state the cost of the items and the amount they would hand us, then we would calculate change and state it and hand it back. Pretty serious work for a 13yr old.
I also played the piano and the violin at the time and remember oogling and wishing for the day I would be invited to play in the orchestra and not just the local KH.
Such an aspiring company girl I worked at being, till I listened to my gut feelings of warning. -

Hey! I was at the same Pasadena and Ventura Fairgrounds assemblys as well. The Watts circuit ones too. That was the first time I remember being told to not be afraid even though we were white, the great J would protect us. heehe, pretty silly, but made little me feel special at the time.
In '58 we drove a caravan of about 6 cars and 24 people from LA to New York and back for the 8 day assembly at, I think it was Wrigley Field then. Anyone remember how excited everyone was whenever a car went by with the W mag pasted in their windows?
People were falling over sick at all of them as I remember. I thought I was going to sweat to death and my legs were going to fall off from having to sit on bleachers that cut across my calves. No getting up till intermission was allowed as we might just miss a big announcement or something, so like a good little girl I just sat there thinking I would be deserving of everlasting and perfect life for it all. My family was long suffering and did not bring their own refreshments.
Silly me... -

Has anyone thought that just maybe the speaker making a point of stating ALL
the governing body agree, is an effort to counter act any knowledge or
concerns about the 2/3 voting? -

That's it, we've had ENOUGH and we are MOVING!
by Schism ini know this question has been asked before, but i can't find the old post about this.
i am looking for another area of the us to move to.
edit: please be aware, i am ranting right now, but nothing here is exaggerated.

Sure cannot blame you for wanting to move by your description!
It really is hard to beat California. There's a reason so many people are here.
The Sierra Gold Country foothills sound like you might like them.
Pollock Pines, Placerville, Auburn, Grass Valley, to name a few you may
want to investigate.
The above have 4 seasons, dry in the summer and rain/some snow in the winter.
The leaves turn as well.
I do not know anything about the job opportunities though. -

Are Civil Marriges Acceptable?
by hopelesslystained inmy sister has a sister in law who has been with her partner for over 15 yrs and they have recently decided to make their union legal by getting married in a civil court.

LittleToe---yes, you are probably right. Although I am not personally involved, that is my conclusion as well.
Strange beings indeed, this so-called religeon attracts.
I should probably add, for the most part, I feel most of the attracted individuals are those who are looking for something better than what they already know. Certainly the hope of an everlasting, healthy, and youthful life in a paradise is a most glorious carrot held out on a stick in front of one's nose. Something to slave for...
silly, really, isn't it when looked at from the reality point of view instead of the 'you must believe' side? -

searching4truth---why would they have to remarry? Please clarify.
I have to add, they were not shunned in the past by family (I just found out)just instructed as above in order to come into 'good standing' as it were.
hey, i don't get it either. just asking if there is something i am unaware of or missing.

Swalker --- They are already married in the civil court. It is the local congregation elders who are refusing to recognize the union. They (ughmm foolishly) are wishing to become active and recognized at this time.
I am guessing they are wanting to reconnect with family who are active (which is most all of their immediate and extended known family).

I am asking this for another. My sister has a sister in law who has been with her partner for over 15 yrs and they have recently decided to make their union legal by getting married in a civil court. Now they wish to become active in the local congregation. They have been told that they are not recognized as being married by the elders until they have been married by an elder. So, in the meantime, they are to live apart and have no sexual relations with each other. Not only that, they have been instructed to have a chaperone anytime they are together.
Is this something new? I have been away for over 20yrs. I thought civil marriages were recognized! Or, is this some weird discerning of their local elders? Please help...
Thanks,
Hope
