i got into a debate with 2 other friends (one a mormon and the other jw, i'm rc) about the blood transfusion issue.
the jw friend cited: genesis 9:4,16 leviticus 7:26,27 & 17:14 acts 15:28,29 & 21:25
i cannot for the life of me see how anyone can read those and honestly beleve that what was ment was to reject blood to save life!

That site is pretty good for the actual writings of the WTBTS. Logic does not work with most JWs however, as they are programmed to believe sans logic. You have to remember, the people in charge who make these doctrines have nothing more than a high school diploma; I bet the person who made this doctrine was just trying to make the JWs different.

I could never understand why cars going in circles was exciting or interesting. I mean, its nothing like European races or the rallies. In Canada, or at least Vancouver, we often make fun of Americans for liking Nascar... I wonder if the Americans do the same to us Canucks for liking hockey?

We had a really, really old Kingdom hall; it used to be buddhist temple among other things . Well, one day there was a burning hall, a really strong one, in the hall, so the meeting was cancelled and everyone left as the brothers tried to figure out the problem themselves (they didn't bother calling the firemen for the longest time). It turns out that old telephone wires from the 1920's or 30's had caught fire.

one could rightly expect, considering the urgency of the times, and the need 'to preach the good news of the kingdomtm' before the end arrives, that jws would be doing all they could to encourage 'like-heartedtm' ones along to their place of worship/study/meeting (or whatever they wish to call their kingdom hallstm).
instead, from my observations, they are doing their best to make the halls as uninviting as possible.. the case in point.
several days ago i drove past the front entrance to the fairly new kingdom hall in ballina where i spent my formative years in 'the truthtm'.
Many JW kids are so ashamed of it at school. Where I work, I have seen JW kids turn beet-red when someone says, aren't you a JW or don't you celebrate birthdays. They don't know how to stick up for themselves and are moritified that someone 'found out' they are JWs. They clearly led 2 lives.
That was me... I was truly embarressed with this socially-isolating religion. The worst part is that the GB tries to make you different, by not birthdays or holidays among other things, and doesn't even give you a good reason. I mean, if JW kids didn't have to go out in "FS," and if they were allowed to celebrate birthdays, christmas, sing the national anthem... it wouldn't be so bad, except for it being a cult.
