Hmm... you don't just give out forgiveness easily, rather you forgive when the person is truly repentant... this repetence includes penance. However, we ourselves must refrain from judgement.

Forgiveness, How Far Do You Take It?
by prophecor inhas it ever happened to you, something so dispicable you would rather go to your grave, not having forgiven someone a wrong they had done you, hopeful that god would sort it out in the end?
mind you, i know things like child molestation, rape and murder are things for which it is difficult, if not impossible, to be forgiving of.
that being said, where does one draw the line on forgiveness?

How come Mel Gibson's "The Passion" was not even nominated for any of the big awards???
Its all about politics... Million Dollar Baby won because they, as in the entertainment establishment, wish to push the "right to die."

Just what do JW's now believe about the "UN"? Do they believe its the beast
by booker-t ini am wondering if any posters out there know what do jw's believe about the un now.
do they believe that it is the beast of rev and the disgusting thing mentioned in daniel or do they feel that it is just another organization with faults and errors but can be used in a nice way by jw's?
when i told my mom about the un scandal she said she had heard about it and the elders told her the library card excuse.

They now try to be ambiguous on this rediculous interpretation. In the Daniel book, it said "the member nations of the United Nations."

I found the show a bit boring... I mean Chris Rock was so scripted and they wouldn't let him say anything real funny. Though they didn't censor "bullocks," as most Americans don't know what that means (I don't either, I think its a reference to testicles, but I'm not sure). I think that they should just cut out most of the acting and just give out the awards.
PS. I thought it was funny, though, when they kept trying to cut off Hiliary Swank with music.

Its like what Jesus argued about the sabbath.
On a sabbath, while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath?" And Jesus answered, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?" And he said to them, "The Son of man is lord of the sabbath." (Luke 6: 1-5, RSV)
If you can't see the connection between this and blood transfusions, then you are as blind as those leading you.

Does "Loyalty" work both ways in the Org?
by JH inas jw's we are asked to be "loyal" to the organization.
all this means is, say "yes" to everything they ask, and believe everything they teach without questioning.. how about the jw organization, are they loyal to their members?
if a brother of sister falls sick, loses a job, becomes invalid, will the jw organization show loyalty to that person and help out?

JW elder: You know, I could give you money to help you out, but I'm going to give you this Watchtower magazine instead that leads you to life everlasting on a paradise earth. Of course you might get a mysterious envelope of money for being loyal to Jehovah. Not from me or anyone I know though...

Church from Bible, Bible from Church?
by Big Dog inafter leaving the borg and through research convincing myself that the wbts did not have the "truth" i began to read a wide variety of religous materials and tried to delve into as many faiths as possible.
i was curious what others believed and after growing up in such an insular faith i found it fascinating to learn about all the different philosophies and beliefs.
one particular issue i found especially interesting, and that was the issue of sola scriptura, " simply stated, the protestant doctrine of sola scriptura ("scripture alone") teaches that every teaching in christian theology (everything pertaining to "faith and practice") must be able to be derived from scripture alone.

It just seems there is so much emphasis placed on finding a scripture in the bible to support this or that, it did sort of make me wonder what the heck people did before bibles were mass produced, or for that matter before there even was a bible in the form we know it today.
Well, they definitely didn't carry a bunch of scrolls around as some JW pictures show. They would've simply memorized large parts of the bible, which also lead to paraphrasing when writing letters. Early bishops used to have to memorize the entire book of the Psalms.

The Church came before the bible. The bible was not composed, but compiled by the church around the 3rd or 4th century. At a synod in 382 AD, Pope Gelasius set out a canon and there was the Canon of Pope Innocent I in 405 AD, both of which are suppposed to be identical to the canon officially promulgated by the counter-reformationist Council of Trent.

I suppose I have experienced some wierd s*#&, but it could all be explained scientifically and logically, I suppose. I usuallydon't get scared easily by real things (like murderers or that kind of thing), but only by unreal stuff (zombies, etc.).
I've also been nearly asleep (this is subjective, of course) and seen a woman standing by the bed. When I saw her, she seemed surprised that I could see her, and then she disappeared. She was in grey robes that seemed to wave in the breeze, although of course I live inside an apartment and there are few breezes in here (although more than I would like, drafty old place)...
They say that its relatively common to have hallucinations just before or after sleep... that's what it could be. I remember that one time I was trying to fall asleep I heard someone speaking my name, clear as day. I also remember just before waking up fully one day that I could hear that violin line from Hip Hop, Be Bop clearly and loudly too.
Another time I got an extremely strong "premonition" (I suppose it could be called that) that my grandfather would die (even though I knew nothing of his condition). And lo and behold, he died that night. And one time I remember smelling his cologne after he had died, I though that was quite strange as it was rather unique.
I also used to hear rather strange sounds around my house (like someone walking upstairs w/no one else home).I've also "experienced" other things, with witnesses, that confirm by belief in evil, but I don't feel like sharing it. I did get a St. Benedict medal that is inscriped thus:
On the front of the medal we find St. Benedict holding a Cross in one hand, and the Rule of St. Benedict in the other. At his sides are the words "Crux S. Patris Benedicti" ("The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict"), and below his feet: "Ex S M Casino MDCCCLXXX" ("From the holy mount of Casino, 1880"). On that date, Monte Cassino was given the exclusive right to produce this medal, and special Jubilee indulgences were added. Still on this front side of the medal we find inscribed in a circle the words:
"Ejus in obitu nostro presentia muniamur" ("May his presence protect us in our hour of death").
The reverse side of the medal is where the real exorcistic force reveals itself. In the center is a Cross. The Cross, which St. Benedict so loved and often used as a powerful exorcism. The vertical beam of the Cross bears the letters C.S.S.M.L., and the horizontal beam, the letters N.D.S.M.D. These are the first letters of the words:
CRUX SACRA SIT MIHI LUX, May the Holy Cross be a light unto me,
NON DRACO SIT MIHI DUX. And may the Dragon never be my guide. The four large letters at the corners of the Cross, C S P B, stand for CRUX SANCTI PATRIS BENEDICTI: The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict.
We are not through yet. In addition to the "Pax" ("peace") motto at the top, we find the following letters in a circle around the margin of this side: V.R.S.N.S.M.V.: S.M.Q.L.I.V.B. It almost looks masonic; except, of course, the Benedictines are quite willing to tell you what the letters stand for, and they are enough to make any secret society get the shakes:
VADE RETRO SATANA; NUNQUAM SUADE MIHI VANA.
Get behind me, Satan; Never suggest vain thoughts to me.SUNT MALA QUAE LIBAS;
The cup you offer is evil;IPSE VENENA BIBAS!
Drink the poison yourself! -

The New Light that burned me
by czarofmischief ini was reading the 1975 thread, and considered posting on it, but since i wasn't born until the carter administration, i don't think i really can comment on it.
i can sympathize, however.. you see, i was raised in the truth.
rarely missed a meeting.

Looking back, even as a youngster, my instincts were telling me that this was not the truth. I hated going to meetings, I hated being different, I wanted to play sports, be normal, etc. I was tired of being threatened, I was tired of being afraid.
I know what that feels like.
