in the past i have sometimes felt like i have to be the 'bad guy', so to speak, because i need to lock or delete topics, deactivate people, try and stop fights and such like - basically, telling people off and not being 'nice'.. well, apart from the odd heated debate and harsh word (and disruptive 'visit') i have not really had a great deal to do for the past month or two and it has been very nice - a pleasure to serve.. so ... i thought i should say a 'thank you' instead of a "stop it!
" for once
My thanks too, Simon and Angharad!!

well, now that yasser has left, there's fires burning around the church of the nativity.
one question i have is, where is the outcry from all those that believe jesus was born there and it is indeed a holy site?
i would think they would be up in arms...some literally.
I can only speak for myself of course, but I view the building as just a building. "God does not dwell in man made temples"

LoneWolf, You asked:
I keep hearing about these ex-witness conventions and “apostofests” and am somewhat curious about them. How many show up on average, what they consist of, etc. There are quite a few now in different cities, states, and countries.
I am going to one in Pinecrest, California June 14-16. Dan Hall has that one. Last year was his first, and again there was no count given. I would estimate about 100-150 was there. It promises to be larger this year.
The conventions, that I know about, are Christian centered, but, I have met ex-jws at the different conventions with many different beliefs and opinions. The first one I ever attended had an ex-jw who now believes in reincarnation, another was in the Dawnists, and many other beliefs.
I have always observed, that all are welcome, and treated well, no matter what they believe. I will say again, for the benefit of some here, that they are Christian centered. Most there, will be Christian believers.

it strikes me that as witnesses most can find many faults with the world and reasons why they want to be no part of it.. things are often exagerated or demonised in the witneses eyes.. does the same thing happen in reverse when you leave the org?.
do we blow things up out of proportion to how they really are?.
are we really that much happier as people than we were in the org?.
It also depends on what you believe the future holds and your spiritual beliefs. If you believe that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way, then the JWs are headed for eternal separation from God, whatever that may be.
If however you do not have any belief in God, then if the JWs enjoy their life in a lying organization, then let them enjoy what they want.

Hi Cygnus,
I will add maybe 1/2 cent if you do not mind. I have become a born again believer, so I have a different outlook about all this, but I am not sure you are interested in that point of view, so I would like to just cover a couple of points.
My relationship with God does not depend on any church or group, it is between my Lord and Savior and me. Churches are for gathering together with other believers to "build one another up" show "love and fine works" etc. I think that is good, but has nothing to do with my salvation. I could gain just as much, maybe more, by going to another believers home with maybe a few others. Wouldn't that actually be a church? That is, especially, if the others were also believers.
My best enjoyment is going to ex-jw conventions. Of course I have a lot in common with the people there.
My thinking about your going back to the organization is this. I think if you have any hopes of your family leaving the WT, going back would be the worse thing you might do. I think you would reinforce their belief that they are right, the organization is the only way, and that you have proven it, by returning.

this is a neat little test, there aren't any wrong answers, only what you think, after answering the questionaire it tells you approximately where you stand on political and economic policy.
(numbers below 0 are to the left, numbers above 0 are to the right).
http://www.politicalcompass.org/.
I am a little shocked, I am about center on the Political Compass.
Results: Economic Left/Right: -0.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: 0.67
how left or right are you?
are you a libertarian or an authoritarian?
which political party comes closest to your views?
I'm taking down the names of everybody turning left
BTW, Conservative (73)
hi friends,.
i've read the thread "how many left over the un issue?".
i know ginosko, he is the elder, a very good friend of mine, i told you about when i wrote the threads about the un and my congregation.
Hi CaballoSentado,
I will answer yes to your questions. I believe I am a better person now. I am still a believer in the God of the bible, so I will credit my Lord and Savior for the changes in my life.
People have made comments about the changes (for the better) in my life. I am happier than I have ever been in my life with a great sence of peace, and that in spite of the fact, that I have lost most of my family.
When I was a JW, (born and raised in it) I tried many times to be "good", I wanted to please Jehovah, but I continually failed. The reason was, I was trying on my own, to do what the bible shows ONLY our Lord can do.
When I learned that I can do nothing to earn salvation, that it is a FREE gift from God, and that my only obligation is to have faith in Him and give my life to Him, I was "free indeed" and started to enjoy life. (I will spare everyone the rest of the sermon.)

florida xjw meeting .
saturday april 27, 2002.
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm .
Flower,
I can see your point. I guess the other side of the story is that thousands of ex-jws and those just questioning the WT, have no idea that there are conventions, support groups, etc.
The big one, New Ringgold, is no secret to the WT. For several years a group would charter a bus the day before the Penn. convention, and go to Brooklyn, to demonstrate at the WT headquarters, the day before the convention. Also TV programs have been made from the Penn. convention.
But, for anyone wanting to attend the Penn. convention and remain anonymous, it should be no problem. There are several hundred there and no one is required to speak. So, you can be there without anyone knowing who you are, if you choose.
I should mention that a convention is coming up in central California in about 7 weeks. Anyone wanting more info, can e-mail me.

quote.
"i feel you should remember where you got the truth.
first, who was the one feeding you to where you are now.".
I believe any truth I got while in the Wt org. came only from the bible. The only thing the WT gave me was the poison they added to that food.
