I was one of the first two to do mike duty in our hall. We did it to perfection. Sat in a chair adjacent the isle, and jumped up and ran to each commentor keeping the mike a regulation 4-6 inches from their mouth, and holding it there until my arms bled if necessary. We did it with absolute precision.
Then when some newbie....from then on did it and it wasnt as good, we would bag the sh*t out of them...not to their faces of course!
But I would sit there and get hot under the collar if I thought it wasn't done just as good as when I did it! We got annoyed with the long leads so my wife and I donated a set of fm mikes! What a suck!
My son who was about 8 or 9 was asked if he would like to fetch the mikes from the platform at the end of the meetings. He has to wipe them with some disinfectant and put them back in their little boxes. Another young lad thought it should be his privelege and used to race my son for the platform as the prayer concluded. Some other guy thought he was using too much disinfectant and had a go at him. So he just stopped doing it. Stuff it he said!
Lisavegas420.....some of the elders wives did have balls I am sure of it, one I suspect may have had even more...but even they didn't get to use the mikes!!

microphone duty
by praiseband inok, for those of us non-, and never before-jw's, will someone please explain what the big deal is about having responsibility for microphones is all about?
we do use microphones in our church, but ....i mean whoever is in charge of any technology that day sets up microphones.
it could be anyone in the church, male or female, young or old, the pastor, the janitor.

Sharing Your new light with your Parents
by pratt1 inevery so often i get to share some of my thooughts about the borg and my new found beliefs with my mom , who is a die hard pioneer for over 20 years.. we actually have had decent conversations about doctrines and interpertations of the scriptures, and she has admitted that at times the borg may have misapplied certain scriptures over the years.. her excuse is that imperfect men sometimes make mistakes and jehovah makes allowances for this.. but what really gets her upset is when i bring up certain aspects of my childhood, that because of her belief in the borg, she made some unwise decisions for not only me be her family.. me getting baptized at 13, her not being fully supportive of higher education, cutting off family members, pushing me into an early marriage when i was clearly not ready, teaching me that all "worldly people', including my father woiuld die at armageddon, these are just a few examples that when we discuss them, she becomes extremely angry and then accuses me of making her out to be a bad mother.. i got me thinking, do you think that many dubs refuse to acknowledge the problems with their religion because it would mean that they made some really bad decsions in their and their families lives.. are they afraid to accept the responsiblity for this because of the guilt they would suffer?.
what are your thoughts?

HI Lurker, you live up to your name!! 5 posts since may 05. Someone in the last two days has ben asking if someone high up in the structure could abuse the position and benefit personally from all the dollars that flow thick and fast into the society's coffers. It would seem on the surface that there are many checks and balances that would prevent this, but you are suggesting that this is not the case? I have read where Knorr used to have a first class ticket for his meeting bag, but this may go a bit deeper?

Thanks for sharing your story and the article on the catacombs as well as the simple but effective chart on 607. I had a guy who studied years ago bring this up. The SDA's had called on him and he mentioned he was studying with JW's.
The guy raised the 607 thing. The study went to the library, got out some books and couldn't find 607 any where. So he asked me. He said if it is such an important date, I should be able to prove it fairly quickly. I couldn't.
I took a most studiuos guy back with me, he ahd done his wts research, and thought we would hit this guy with both barrels....alas we couldn't. I took two other people and still no proof, we couldnt convince him.
Were my alarm bells ringing? NO....... blinkers on solid. I said to him, that where history is different to the bible, I have to stick with the bible and it is solid on 607!!!!!! What a d--- h--d [me]. -

Wasanelder Once has summed it up nicely. The real bitch fights took place away from the "official" meetings. Just before I "stepped down" I went to the c/o and bitched about a pain in the ass elder who had shifted in, was dictating the show and living in the "wrong" territory. So I whined and bitched and .........the c/o transferred him to another local cong cause they had an exceptional need for elders!!!!

Could someone be amassing a personal fortune at Watchtower land?

locally, there was an elder who was able to have affairs with three different women, including his wife for thirty years.
during that same time he had his hand in the contribution box to keep his business going.. we're talking thirty years here.. i agree with many posts here that the legal dept actually run the wtbts now and not the governing body.

Hey what about some do-gooder who buys the c/o a car or loads them up with cash each time they come around? Does he declare all that to the tax department? Or what about the c/o who knows how to play the system and can hint at what he needs so that people will buy it for him....in exchange for a talk the the assembly?

It must be possible in some way or other. Some of these guys are in positions of trust, and some are trustee's for the ownership of Halls. I have heard about some Aussie guy from Adelaide, South Australia who used a K Hall as security for a loan that went belly up and the hall was repossessed!
Knorr used to have two first class seats on the plane, one for him and one for his witnessing bag.
