  Interesting articles and, yes, we know that the Society through the pages of the Golden Age ( later Awake ! ) often made some pretty extreme comments in the old days .Even today many Witnesses have lingering doubts about regular doctors and favour alternative therapies. Btw, I have definitely benefited from Osteopaths and Chiropractic therapy, but that is hardly extreme.

  Many years back when I was still a believer, I could see that such comments on medicine and science were only the view of the article writer although then I accepted that the doctrinal stuff was “ spirit directed “ .

  when i first came into contact with jehovah's witnesses they were talking about god's kingdom bringing about a peaceful new world.

  the scripture used being psalm 37:10,11 "just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more.you will look at where they were and they will not be there., but the meek will possess the earth and they will find exquisite delightin the abundance of peace..".

  i took this to mean, then, that when jehovah intervened, at his appointed time, it would be instantly, invisibly, and painlessly.

  Some of them are silly enough to take these WT pictures for real, rather than just an artist’s view….

  But cities? Where the hell did that come from? Everyone’s view of a new world is not to live in a city but a green and verdant land .. I would like to have a reference to Splane’s talk to hear what he said , if it is still there.

  Is anyone watching The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu?

  after finishing season 6, episode 5, it occurred to me that, if the jws were right, (they’re not), the “new system” would end up being very much like this.

  picture the commanders as the elders.. it’s a riveting series.

  i wanted to see it, because i read the book when it first came out.

  I have to disagree. If the current elders had free rein , maybe. But I know mature dubs who look forward to the New World so as to see an end to the current regime of elders. Their belief is that God and Jesus Christ will then be in charge, making the decisions based on real Christian principles with insight, not flawed men.

  The article says “blood fractions” as though red cells, white cells, plasma and platelets were not also fractions, but of course they are . It is the rule of the GB that only allows other fractions to be taken medically. So whose rule are they following? Man’s rule or Gods ?

  Scripture says “ It is in vain they worship me if they teach commands of men as doctrine “

  Nb. “Shepherd the Flock 2024 makes it plain that if one unrepentantly takes “ blood” they disassociate themselves

  Yes, I noticed that Easter is a week later . But both the JW Memorial and the Jewish Passover were this weekend gone . I am not sure how they calculated Easter but bothdubs and Jews followed the “ first full moon after the Spring Equinox “ principle.

  We zoomed in and were singularly unimpressed with the talk delivery .

  I believe that they would be more tolerant today, in fact they should have been back then . I have known and befriended a bro with a long ponytail. They disliked the hair but kept the bro. I have heard tale of an ex miner JW who could not stop peppering his speech with swear words . The account was that the cong loved and accepted him .

  Re the Patois translation… I read that it is an important part of Jamaican culture and over there taken seriously..So, if it reaches people they will do it.

  Didn’t Paul write that “ I have become all things to all men”

  Having now read the article, we should note what they still maintain. Para. 7 :

  ” We do well to focus on what we do know​—that the last days began in 1914.

  Jehovah has provided Bible prophecies that not only pinpoint that year but also describe in detail the conditions that have prevailed since then. As a result, we are convinced that “the great day of Jehovah is near.”

  So although they know not when exactly, the day is still “ near” . So the pressure to preach is the same . After all , whatever the “ day and the hour” it will be soon.
