  sadly the wt failed to teach fundamental biblical doctrines.

  i did never really understand the doctrine about ransom while i was still in the congregation.. i did not either understand what it really means that "god is love" as stated in the bible.

  i did not either understand from the wt what is love.

  17 To whom, though, would that ransom be paid? For centuries Christendom’s theologians argued that it was paid to Satan the Devil. The fact is that mankind has been “sold under” sin and thus has come under the control of Satan. (Romans 7:14; 1 John 5:19) Still, Jehovah, not Satan, “exacts punishment” for wrongdoing. (1 Thessalonians 4:6) Therefore, as Psalm 49:7 explicitly states, the ransom is to be paid “to God.” Jehovah makes the ransom available, but after the Lamb of God has been sacrificed, the value of his ransom must be paid to God. (Compare Genesis 22:7, 8, 11-13; Hebrews 11:17.) This does not reduce the ransom to a pointless, mechanical exchange, as if money were taken out of one pocket and put in another. The ransom involves not so much a physical exchange as a legal transaction. By insisting that a ransom be paid​—even at great cost to himself—​Jehovah affirmed his unwavering adherence to righteous principles.​—James 1:17.

  I sometimes wondered who the ransom was paid to. There were articles that discussed this but didn’t really reach a conclusion I could understand. They said people in the past speculated that the devil was paid the ransom but that this was a wrong teaching. Another option might be to think that the ransom was paid to God but this was also said to be wrong. Was the ransom paid to the concept of justice rather than a person? Again, I think this was ruled out. I think Watchtower ended up implying that the ransom wasn’t paid anyone as such, it was just paid. Did I pick that up wrong?

  Watchtower July 22 - JWs being interrogated need to muzzle their mouths

  the watchtower has printed a disturbing article about self control and gives this instruction to the r & f .

  self-control also allows us to remain silent when opposers try to trick us into revealing things that could endanger our brothers and sisters.

  this might occur when we are being interrogated by the police in a land where our work is banned or restricted.

  There are possibly brothers in Russia, Ukraine and other countries in this kind of situation. So I don't think it’s entirely irrelevant.

  There are reasonable exceptions to any good advice, but as a general principle, preparing yourself mentally, ahead of time, for the possibility of having to withhold information from threatening authorities, in order to ensure the safety of others, doesn’t seem to me entirely unreasonable or out of place.

  It think it was a bum note in Mark O’Donnell’s statement where he said:

  While it is not my business to judge the personal lives of other reporters, I must take on board the feelings and sensitivities of the general public, including those affected by these activities.

  Maybe just clumsy language, but it almost sounds like he would keep working with LE if other people weren’t so “sensitive”.

  Interesting. Have you got any information on where Marvin Shilmer went? Didn’t he support LE early on too?

  I saw the video with Mark and two others discussing JW dot org yesterday. It was worse than watching paint dry. I endured about 3 minutes.

  If other YouTubers want to displace LE they need to up their game. Here’s a top hint: Make shorter videos! Less is more. The worst thing about LE and his imitators is that they take and hour an half to say something that could be said in ten minutes. You’re not Joe Rogan. Most people aren’t willing to invest hours of time on a summary of what’s going on. A JW that presented succinct info in an easy style would be miles ahead of the others.

  A bully picks his targets according to who he thinks he can intimidate. He’s probably correct that Dr Das and Andrew Gold are not to be messed with, but he’s probably wrong if he thinks the XJWS he has targeted can be shut down. He reckons he can silence people as he has in the past, but he will probably find he is mistaken.

  I don’t actually get “triggered” LUHE, whatever that means, when someone says the word “triggered” - that was meant to be irony. And I realise people have genuinely traumatic experiences but the term is increasingly used in trivial situations. Some young people seem to be constantly upset about something or other … I wish I didn’t start this stupid thread, ha !
