Variation on an old JW joke: what’s the difference between LE and an elder? You can reason with an elder!

by BoogerMan in(acts 7:59, 60) "and they went on casting stones at stephen as he made appeal* and said: “lord jesus, receive my spirit.” then, bending his knees, he cried out with a strong voice: “jehovah, do not charge this sin against them.” and after saying this he fell asleep [in death].
" *or, “invocation; prayer.” nwt reference bible).

The comments of the Catholic theologian Hans Küng in his book Christianity: The Religious Situation of Our Time on this passage are spot on:
“There is probably no better story in the New Testament to show us the relationship of Father, Son and Spirit than that of the speech made by the protomartyr Stephen in his own defence, which has been handed down to us by Luke in his Acts of the Apostles. During this speech Stephen has a vision: 'But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.” So here we have God, Jesus the Son of Man, and the Holy Spirit. But Stephen does not see, say, a God with three faces, far less three men in the same form, nor any triangular symbol of the kind that was to be used centuries later in Western Christian art. Rather:
- The Holy Spirit is at Stephen's side, is in Stephen himself. The Spirit, the invisible power and might issuing from God, fills him fully and thus opens his eyes: in the Spirit heaven opens to him.
- God himself (ho theos = the God) remains hidden, is not in human form; only his 'glory' (Hebrew kabod, Greek doxa) is visible: God's splendour and power, the brilliance of light which issues fully from him.
- Finally Jesus, visible as the Son of Man, stands (and we already know the significance of this formula) at ‘the right hand of God’: that means in throne communion with God, in the same power and slory, Palled as Son of God and taken up into God's eternal life. He is God’s representative for us and at the same time, as a human being, the human representative before God.”

Absolutely what vienne said, this was a response by Stephen to seeing Jesus visibly, completely different from a prayer. Another such instance is Revelation 22 where John saw Jesus in a vision and spoke to him directly. Again not a prayer. In the NT prayers are said to God alone.

Nic there’s more chance of Putin and Zelensky winning as a pair on the Strictly Come Dancing programme than there is of LE admitting even one of the faults and apologising.

Who is Linus? I just watched a video and he seems to have an entire team of people making a living at their company. LE has never been anywhere near that level.

I notice that insinuation is being used in place of reason, evidence, and argument.

Are we living in the LAST DAYS?
by Fisherman inare we living in the prophetic last days that will climax into armageddon?
if this is true then how long should it take?

Yes we’re definitely living in the last days I have little doubt about this. Humans won’t be around much longer the way things are doing, I don’t think. Not unless there is a God, or aliens, or something else that will save us. To quantify that a bit more, I think there’s a reasonable chance there’ll be an extinction, or near extinction event sometime this century, probably even by 2050, whether by nuclear war, artificial intelligence, or something else.
Two good books by academics on the topic: The Precipice by Toby Ord, and Our Final Century by Martin Rees.

If the entire thing was an honest enterprise then wouldn’t pharma companies, academics, and media be working overdrive to work out and publicise exactly how effective the vaccines were, how many adverse events and deaths there have been, and whether it was a net benefit for various age, and other groups? Crickets. Anybody who raises the question of whether, for example, young people would have been better off not taking the vaccines, is still being marginalised as if it’s not a legitimate question to ask.
I really have to wonder at people who think the idea that pharma and the media put profit before lives is some kind of whacky idea. They do know about the opioid crisis, don’t they? Or vioxx? Or the drug trials that go on in Africa because they don’t meet safety regulations? I really think it’s for people who act as if it’s somehow unthinkable that vaccine providers put profit before safety to explain why they think pharma companies in this one instance broke with their habit of pursuing profit over safety for this one product during this one crisis?

He feels his interviews with scholars are “like a college education”. Mmm where have I heard that before, I wonder? The direct quote from Watchtower, originally about the Awake! magazine, is all the more striking because Brits normally use the word university in place of college to refer to higher education, as opposed to further education. Is this subconscious or deliberate?
