He might come up with any number of lies in an attempt to disqualify anything truthful about his stupid legal case coming out. He’s a random nonsense generator, so trying to anticipate where the random nonsense will lead next is largely a fool’s game. He’s lived in Croatia for 15 years or thereabouts and can’t understand the language. I don’t think he’s in any position to talk. -

In my opinion AI translators are every bit as good as humans now. If you just want to understand a text then AI translators is more than adequate. Only if you need an authenticated translation for legal purposes would it be worth even considering a professional translation.

The lack of interest he ever had in actually helping anyone in any practical way is pretty amazing. Because so many people spend so much time trying to help other ex-JWs I guess it was projected onto him that he was somehow involved in that as well. He never was. Anyone who didn’t further his financial or so-called “career” goals were allocated no time in his schedule whatever. He had unpaid volunteers who could do that for him and create a good impression on his behalf. Some people just have a knack for using other people without them realising it. I don’t know where he got it from but LE has that skill in spades.

Abaddon the destroyer is he Jesus?
by ExBethelitenowPIMA inrev 9:11 the angel with the key to the abyss is called abaddon which means destroyer.. the cross references show jw doctrine teaches he is jesus himself using the account in luke where jesus got the demons out of that girl and they said don’t throw us into the abyss.
and revalation 20:1 shows an angel with the key to the abyss.. either watchtower are right and it’s jesus or there are more than one angel with the key to the abyss.. if it is jesus the destroyer of souls it sounds like conan the destroyer.. from the research guide-abaddon, the angel of the abyss—who is he?.
at revelation 9:11, however, the word “abaddon” is used as the name of “the angel of the abyss.” the corresponding greek name apollyon means “destroyer.” in the 19th century there were efforts made to show that this text prophetically applied to individuals such as emperor vespasian, muhammad, and even napoleon, and the angel was generally regarded as “satanic.” it should be noted, however, that at revelation 20:1-3 the angel having “the key of the abyss” is shown to be god’s representative from heaven, and rather than being “satanic,” he binds and hurls satan into the abyss.

Remember a JW quiz that included the question:
Abaddon: was he a bad un’ or a good un’? (Meaning was he good or bad) The answer differed based on whether the latest Watchtower said it was Jesus or Satan.

Memorial Attendances 2020 to 2023
by slimboyfat infollowing from the convention attendance thread i looked back on my notes to see the memorial attendances over the pandemic.
this is what i found.
i don’t have any pre-pandemic attendances but i’d estimate them around 80 to 90 or so in recent years.

For Scotland 80 to 90 is a fairly large congregation. It might be different elsewhere.
I gather the attendance at the regional convention was around 7,400. That’s pretty similar to pre-pandemic levels. There are 115 congregations in Scotland, so that makes about 64 people in attendance from each congregation on average. There are a number of small congregations in Scotland from islands and rural communities that have around 20 to 40 publishers.

It might not last that long because he’s not a well man and recent developments will impact his health further. But I wish him well. If he would give an outside interview or write a book it would be very interesting indeed but I doubt that will happen.

And what fo all the other fulltime servants get for devoting most of their lives to the watchtower ?
It seems quite arbitrary what people get. I know a widow of a CO who was taken care of for life by being given accommodation and made an honorary special pioneer. I know others who seemingly had to fend for themselves including a former district overseer.

acts 13:12 "Jehovah" or the "Lord"
by enoughisenough inacts 13:12 nwt......at the teaching of "jehovah"....i was reading in acts and the apostles were teaching about jesus, and so when i saw the word "jehovah", it seemed out of context with the other context in acts.
( i think there may be some instances where the name jehovah may fit into acts--but the jury isn't in on that ) i went into bible gateway which lists how the verse is translated in other versions and the several others i read all translated "the lord" ( not all capitols so meaning jesus) which i think is more fitting with the context.
i really need to get another bible besides the nwt...i keep thinking i may end up with my dad's large print bible.

So Jesus being called ‘Lord’ means that he’s God, except in Psalm 110 where it means he’s a man?
Maybe it simply means what the Bible says: that Jesus is God’s Son, the firstborn of all creation, who God has appointed ruler over everything.
What about ‘Lord’ in Phil 2:11 where everyone bows their knee to Jesus as Lord? Is that verse referring to his ‘humanity’ or his ‘divinity’? Either way it doesn’t work because Jesus is called Lord “to the glory of God the Father”. The Bible wasn’t written to be read as Trinitarians insist it must be read to fit the dogma. It took centuries for Trinitarian dogma to even formulate such strained readings.

Talking about "Jesus and Jehovah" is a Watchtowerite, JW theological jargon, and of course can only be interpreted in this context.
It’s what Psalm 110:1 says: “Jehovah declared to my Lord: sit at my right hand until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet”.
The Lord Jesus is distinct from and subordinate to Jehovah God in scripture.
What two names do you suppose are written on the foreheads of believers in Revelation 14:1?

I think he has an alcohol problem and it simply got out of hand. He probably had offers of help and warnings over and extended period of time. Perhaps a drunken incident early this year was the last straw and the GB finally decided that keeping him on the GB was causing more problems than biting the bullet and telling him he had to go. But he’s still a believer and his family are too, and the GB feel sorry and disappointed as well as annoyed with him, so this was the solution they came up with. The house nearby is for family to come in and check on them and help them if need be.
To me the type of house seems well judged for the situation of someone who served the organisation for decades but who had to be removed because they were causing problems. It’s about as cheap as it could be without seeming like a slap in the face. Some Catholic bishops and cardinals guilty of greater offences than alcoholism have been quietly retired to much more comfortable accommodations.
The fact that Morris doesn’t have the wherewithal to buy their own place indicates the GB do generally adhere to the vow of poverty.
I feel sorry for the man. He appears deeply troubled from his time in Vietnam and has been negatively influenced by some of the darker aspects of the JW worldview in terms of death and destruction of nonbelievers. His life-course doesn’t seem to supply any evidence for the thesis that GB members are generally cynical nonbelievers cashing in. He seems to have believed it all too much.
I guess I kind of assumed that word of the video years ago of him buying tons of whisky would have reached the other GB members pretty sharply and that they either didn’t think it was that big a deal or they reckoned he could be helped to control his addiction. But perhaps the GB weren’t aware of it at the time and it only recently came to their attention. After all I think it’s fair to assume the GB don’t generally spend much time browsing YouTube or forums, and other Bethelites who became aware of it perhaps didn’t feel it was their place to bring it to the attention of the GB. So maybe word only reached the GB slowly about the embarrassing video, combined with their own awareness of his erratic drunken behaviour, and things only came to a head early this year.
The GB are probably also taking into consideration that his wife and the rest of his family are loyal JWs who have a heavy burden of trying to help AMIII deal with alcoholism, war trauma, and probably depression now on top.
I do think the GB could and should have said something about it on their broadcasting channel. Surely, while being sensitive about the personal nature of the situation, they could have found some form of words that acknowledged his service to the organisation over many decades, that there was a difficultly that has been resolved with his removal, and that ordinary JWs deserve some basic acknowledgment that the most colourful character the GB in recent years, a group they are instructed to view exclusively as the “faithful slave”, has permanently disappeared from their programmes.
