"Mankind's Search for God" book
by My Name is of No Consequence inthis book was published around 1990, but was never studied (to my knowledge).
does anyone know the reason why?.

I don’t think it was studied at the book study either. Parts of it were used in service meeting items which may explain why some copies have underlining and notes.
If the book was used at Gilead and used as evidence of a balanced religious education that makes sense. It was also part of the move away from the more belligerent engagements with other religions to a more ‘respectful’ disagreement.
In my memory some JWs were proud of the book and liked to use it in the ministry or to place in libraries or use with school teachers and so on because it has a more pleasant tone as well as a good layout and design. It was one of the last books to be published while they were still charging for the literature, so it was a quality haptic hardcover.

I am sorry to tell you Phizzy, but I know many churches that have declined far more than JWs and have never reached a point of saying “can this be the right religion”, or “is it worth it”, and “time to throw in the towel”. Well on an individual level I am sure some members do think that - and that’s part of the reason for the decline! But it never seems to reach a tipping point where there is a collective reckoning as such.
Churches that have experienced severe decline in recent years where I have some direct knowledge include Methodists, Church of Scotland, Mormons, Christadelphians, Unitarians, Baptists, Brethren, Swedenborgians, Christian Scientists, New Apostolic Church. I’m probably forgetting some. Some of these churches have lost half their members, or more, over the past 20 years. Yet until there is literally no one left to physically turn the light on and off (this happened with the Swedenborgians who closed in Scotland with 4 members remianing, down from 800 in the 1950s) there simply doesn’t seem to be a level of decline where a religious group will throw in the towel early. They just struggle on and readjust to the shrinking numbers as best they can until there is no one left.

I watched the start of the video, the first ten minutes, and he keeps on saying he either won’t lie to JWs at the Kingdom Hall about who he is, or that he doesn’t want to lie about who he is. He can’t quite make up his mind whether he intends to lie or not, but he wants his audience to know that he really doesn’t like the idea of lying about who he is in any case.
But isn’t this a bit odd. He has admitted to visiting sex workers behind his wife’s back every couple months. This must have involved dozens, or hundreds of lies, week in, week out, to his wife, their family, and probably others, for years, about where he was going, and what he was doing. Why does he care so much about lying to strangers on one occasion when he is practised at lying repeatedly to his closest family about something more important?
Maybe that’s stating the obvious to the point of redundancy, but it just grates for a known liar to pretend as if lying is of any consequence to them. He can’t really mean any of it, I guess it’s all a performance for the channel.

LE is skilled at distinguishing people who are useful to him from people who are not useful, discarding those who are not useful, and doing enough to keep useful people on board. So as long as Tibor is useful he will be pleasant enough to him. Plus on the other side Tibor has demonstrated he’s willing to put up with a lot.

Being embarrassed by a JW when you were a JW
by punkofnice ini was out on the ministry(tm) in the 1980's when i was pie-on-earring.
i was only a lowly publisher(tm) being coached by a rather odd elder(tm).. one of the publications(tm) had recently mentioned japan and the growth(tm) of jws there.. the elder(tm), brother(tm) i was with offered the magazines(tm) to the householder(tm).. then he stated, 'there are (gave the reported numbers at the time.
i can't remember the number he stated), jehovah's witnesses(tm) in japan.'.

Embarrassed on the ministry when a young man at the door said he was dating a JW woman. The sister I was with got out her notebook and pen and asked the young man for the name and congregation of the sister so that she could report her to the elders for dating a non JW.
Also embarrassed by the JWs who would insist on ostentatiously saying a group prayer before a meal in a restaurant.
I was embarrassed for a sister in the meeting when she expressed delight about a local church that had burned down because it is part of “Babylon the Great”. It sounded way over the top to me, to the point that I wondered about whether she really meant what she was saying. She was someone who converted to become a JW in order to marry a JW brother she had met at the gym. I already suspected her conversion might be less than genuine, and her over the top comment about Babylon the Great burning down made me suspect that she was attempting to imitate a JW response to the situation and not expressing her actual opinion.

Thanks Nostromo, for the additional information.
Even for Jehovah’s Witnesses, not explaining the reason for the removal of a member of the Governing Body smacks of controlling and secretive behaviour.
I suppose they could argue that the reason for the removal of elders is not announced either. But Governing Body members are treated like fonts of wisdom because they constitute the faithful slave, not as any other elder. How can ordinary JWs be expected to devote such attention to Governing Body members on the one hand, and on the other hand be offered no explanation for the sudden removal of one of the members? Even the short announcement has now been removed from the website. I can imagine some JWs, who didn’t see the announcement, are now in the position of not really knowing whether to believe that he has been removed because there is no official mention of it. They may infer it is true that he has been removed by his absence on the GB page, but why are they leaving ordinary JWs in the position of having to draw that inference?

Pity Ted Jaracz closed the history archive in Germany in 2008 and sent resident historian Johannes Wrobel packing.

Aha, thanks!
It’s quite remarkable that GB members are clustered in the Service department.
Of those still alive that’s: Stephen Lett, Samuel Herd, David Splane, Mark Sanderson, Gerrit Lösch, Gage Fleegle, and Anthony Morris III (recently removed)
Of recent additions, Kenneth Cook and Jeffrey Winder are in the Writing and Personnel departments respectively, and Gage Fleegle in the Service department.
Has there been a slight move away from the Service department since Jaracz died in 2010?
