towards the end of jackson’s talk, he says: .

I think what they mean is that even when humans reach perfection they do not become immortal because they can still choose to sin and die as a result. (They quote the scripture from Isaiah 65:20 about a hundred year old man dying as a boy) In JW theology, only the anointed are granted immortality, a gift not even given to angels, or to the great crown, or even to resurrected Bible figures such as Abraham and David.

Is this yet another relative, this time coming across an old laptop, and even bringing the recent earthquake into the story? This is getting incredibly complicated.

But there remains something that is very straight forward. What he already admitted to in his livestream means that he has no credibility as an activist, and his colleagues Kim Silvio, Mark O’Donnell, and others have concluded they cannot work with him. He has never explained how his trip to Thailand could possibly not have involved the exploitation of vulnerable people, never expressed regret for that, and never given any indication he realises how severely this compromises his activism. He is a walking liability to himself and anybody who chooses to involve themselves with him. It’s possible we will not get to the bottom of the other allegations to most people’s satisfaction, but even so these facts remain.

Someone who is as stupid and out of control as this person appears to be—these few incidents we have heard about are quite possibly the tip of the huge iceberg in terms of things from his past that could come back to haunt him.

The accounts of what went on is becoming more detailed. I don’t know whether the account is true, but it does seem plausible and makes sense of some issues, such as how it came about that the elders covered up for him.

I see the photo of his tweet says Tibor helped him “get the bunker operational again”. How, what happened to it? It’s almost as if it had been dismantled somehow and they had to put it back together. Which would be understandable in the circumstances.

Don’t be quick to blame a spouse for condoning behaviour. We have no idea how horrendous the situation may truly be. No wonder she never wanted to appear in videos and he had to “surprise” her to get her on camera sometimes.

Simon is right there’s a lot of evidence that he makes really stupid mistakes, which does invalidate arguments that rest on the premise that he wouldn’t have made such a stupid mistake.

I am 50/50 on whether I believe the worst stuff. If it’s true, I hope he is caught. In terms of shock factor, this is Trevor/Linda-gate to the power x 100!

Another strange angle, if all this is true.

It would mean his father was comfortable covering up crimes and advising how to evade justice, but apostasy is much worse and he must be shunned. (Assuming the shunning part of the story is indeed true. Like many aspects of the whole saga, we are relying largely on an unreliable narrator)

Oh man, I’ve heard local JWs moan about this on and on. They pretend to be angry, but really they are delighted to be misdescribed on the news—because it confirms everything the GB have been saying about the news telling lies about JWs.

In reality the news gets stuff like this wrong all the time, JWs are not being singled out here. The news is so bad, just in terms of getting basic facts wrong, before we even get to bias, I wouldn’t trust them to get anything right, especially not anything that’s actually important.

Who knows what’s really going on in Russia/Ukraine, for example. I listen to the news to hear what the rhetoric of the day is. In terms of facts about troop movements, or who said what, when, I don’t put any faith in it at all. Many news presenters would struggle to accurately report what colour socks they are wearing—am I really expected to believe they have any idea what’s going on thousands of miles away in such a complicated situation?

The news is good for finding out what the powers that be want us to think, not for finding out what is actually going on.

I’ve read the messages now. The language looks a bit polished to me. There aren’t spelling mistakes, or text speak contractions you might expect from a young person, or chat room type exchanges. Both people seem to have a similar writing style, whereas you might expect more pronounced differences.

Is there no information at all on how these screen shots were obtained, who stored them, released them and so on?

On the other hand, I just can’t imagine who would go to the trouble of making this up. The story has been pretty consistent. At first I thought it was wild made up nonsense. I first heard these rumours years ago and the essential story has remained the same the whole time. That’s a level of consistency and patience that would be incredibly difficult to fake.

I hope the police can get to the bottom of it. Trying to work it out is beyond most of us here, unless there are any actual detectives. There are forensic linguists who work with the police to solve cases like this. It’s a very interesting subject and there are all sorts of ingenious techniques they can use to work out identities and the veracity of sources. I read this book “Word Crime” by John Olsson on the topic a few years ago. I wish he was on the case because he’s good, but, unless he was contracted by the police, I don’t think he goes around working on cases otherwise.
