Thanks Earnest for the yearbook numbers. There's quite a discrepancy between the two trends isn't there?

Aust Census Data shows decrease while Yearbook shows increase
by shepherdless inon threads about 8 or 9 months ago, i put up some detailed data from the 2011 and 2006 australian censuses.
data from the 2016 census is becoming available in stages, and i mentioned recently that i would do an update.
finally, as of about today, some data of interest is available, and i have started to look at this, but it is time consuming, and i am time-poor.. anyway, the first search i have conducted is just a simple breakdown of the number of people describing themselves as jw's.

"If these five buildings were placed on top of each other, they would be 25 storeys high!"
That's one higher than the Grenfell block that burned down. Is the comment meant to be topical, or unwittingly so? It was sent just days after.
The "newsletter" is a single sheet of paper with about 100 words on it? I kept checking for more.
They seem pretty enthusiastic anyway. No hint of scaling back there.

Creationist on their death bed

In my experience, even while alive, consciousness is not guaranteed.
You on the booze? My consciousness is always guaranteed.

You don't need to believe in God to believe in an afterlife. In fact, when you think about it, if there is no God then there certainly will be an afterlife. But if there is a God then he's the only one with the power to prevent an afterlife if he wishes.

Aust 2016 Census observations: JW's getting older, more kids leaving, and 30+ group aren't returning
by shepherdless in1. median age.
experts will tell you that if you want to know if a population is in growth or decline, the best single number to look at is the median age of the population.
i have extracted aust census data and calculated the following approx median ages:.

Yes when I went to conventions in the 1990s there were loads of pretty young women. But when I went to the convention last year it was more like geriatric central. The small section they used to reserve for the hard of hearing seems to have expanded to include most of the ground floor. It certainly gives a different feel to the whole thing. The lack of young people will no doubt discourage the remaining young people in a downward spiral.

Interesting to note that the average age is not only rising but rising at an accelerating rate: 2.5 years and then 2.7 years. All the more significant since death puts an upper limit on age, obviously, so an accelerating trend like that can't continue for long.
Although you say the figures may not be accurate to the decimal point I thought I'd point it out.

This is excellent work, much appreciated. If my like button worked I would like it, so consider it liked.

Books are not dying out and this is not the reason for the WT turning to tablets
by slimboyfat inthere's a popular misconception that books in general are in terminal decline, that this is the reason the wt organisation has turned to tablets instead of print, and this in turn has created a financial crisis for the organisation which traditionally relied upon publishing books for income.
this is wrong on a number of levels.
firstly physical books are not in terminal decline, they are as popular as ever with consumers.

Following fastJehu's link on the previous page I came across this letter from the Society in 1991.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4oXVPm4nrmfNnkwVUZwQXVHNGM/view
This was one year after the new "donation arrangement" had been introduced to replace charges for the literature. Notice at the end of the letter it makes the comment:
Although funds received for the worldwide work have diminished somewhat over the last year, we are confident that Jehovah will continue to bless these arrangements.
In my recollection (limited as I was young) brothers were pretty good about donating the right amount for the literature for the first few years (they kept a sheet with prices behind the desk) and this gradually diminished over time. So if the Society was already noticing a reduction in donations within the first year, then we can only assume that it got even worse in the following years.

I said if you want me before your kangaroo court Geoffrey Jackson needs to be dealt with first.
It's good you held something back, otherwise he might have concluded you're apostate.

Your thread claims "evolution is a fact". I was discussing whether evolution is a fact. This isn't nit picking, it's the central question.
As usual you are the one who dragged up a flat earth and worms. And ironically blame me for responding.
