i have, for about 6 months now, been trying to watch every single movie that was "cool" or interesting since 1960.it started out with a desire to watch as an adult all disney movies.

then it morphed into all bond movies (except for the non-canonicals).now it's turned into pretty much any and all movies.

here is my list, scratched out are ones i have seen, green are recent next-in line.turns out there was a lot i had never seen before, about 70% because of the cult restrictions!

Plus I don't see foreign language films. Trollhunter is a good one. Plus The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. And Pan's Labyrinth.

More to the point it seems to be entirely in character. Young Joseph Rutherford presents as a civically engaged sort of person who was searching around for a role in life. He tried various avenues from education, politics, the law, and ultimately religion. That he should also have explored membership of a society as a means of finding a role, purpose and influence, seems entirely plausible.

The Boonville Advertiser mentioned Joseph Rutherford often. Therefore it seems likely they are talking about the same person here.

I can't understand this, "it could just as easily be someone else called John who may be from somewhere else" argument at all. There is a difference between what is possible and what is probable.

I guess it's remotely possible that it is someone else, or that some other kind of mistake is involved (newspapers are known to make mistakes) but that doesn't make it likely. And there's no such thing as 100% certainty anyway.

"Burden of proof" rhetoric is thrown around too easily. Another "canon" of proof is that it's impossible to prove a negative. So in a certain sense, to ask for "proof" this isn't another JF Rutherford is to ask for the impossible. The circumstantial evidence indicates it's probably him. If more evidence can be found well and good, but it's a fair conclusion in the meantime.

How can the Governing Body have love for people they have never met or even thought about as individuals? Unless they conceive of themselves as some sort of divine overlord, dispensing parcels of abstract "love". It just sounds insincere and creepy.

my teacher is talking about a "big brown book" that is used for any questions or scriptures quoted by the person who jws are talking to.

he used it in the context that if they don't know the answer off the top of their head, they look for the verse in this book.. what is the name of this book?.

To think... if Rutherford had got a few hundred more votes his political career might have taken off. And JWs as we know them probably wouldn't exist.
