  i realize that wt has got a wind fall of cash through various means.

  so my question is in the greater scheme of things is it really that much.

  for example let's say with all their real estate and cash on hand they are worth about $20 billion dollars.

  shepherdless you are right that reducing the magazines doesn't save all that much in printing costs because of the fixed costs involved. But it probably saves a lot in translation man hours. That's where the main financial incentive for cutting back the literature may be.

  Recently they abandoned some translations altogether, included simplified French and so on. What I thought was interesting was they didn't even bother to offer a fake excuse. They just said, "the GB has decided to stop them" and that's it.

  More desperate cost saving no doubt.

  the sda's are also getting most of their growth in africa and latin america but plateauing or declining in europe and parts of the western world.. what's also interesting is the sda leadership fronts up and attempts to explain why there is decline in some areas of the world (albeit somewhat disingenously), eg, on the link below from 2014. but the watchtower leaders have never tried to give any explanation for why membership is dramatically falling away in the western world.

  The numbers look good for SDAs. They even calculate deaths and losses in a way JW statistics leave to guesswork. But I suspect there is a degree of nominalism in their membership that is disguised in the figures. Plus they do well in Africa and South America where they offer education and health care. In Europe and North America they are struggling just like JWs.

  Yes SDAs and Mormons make interesting comparison with JWs. Check out this article that compares growth in these religions.

  From my own recollection SDAs are particularly strong in certain African countries, including countries such as Kenya where there are few JWs. The SDA emphasis and support for education is apparently a major attraction for Africans and people in South America. A big contrast with the compete failure of JWs to offer such benefits to their members.

  Of course they are pathological liars for sure. In the announcement Herd claimed one reason they cut back on the Watchtower magazine is because the GB are worried that brothers have too much to read. Is there a single JW on the planet who really believes that explanation, including the liar saying it? There is almost a ritualistic element to the dissembling involved whenever the GB explain the reasons their decisions.

  We are stopping charges for the literature because of poor brothers in Africa.

  We are simplifying the food arrangement so all the brothers can pay attention to the programme.

  We are stopping the Book Study groups because gas prices are too high.

  We are reducing the magazines so you don't have too much to read.

  And so on...

  Invariably met with JWs asking one another: "does anyone know then real reason for the change they just announced?"

  Who knows but it's all adding up: settlements, legal costs, cases found against them. Not to mention the dampening effect on donations of abuse scandals (this hit the Catholic Church hard and is no doubt hitting Watchtower hard too). People simply don't want to donate money when they realise it is being spent defending against abuse claims. So they lose money both ends, and have less money for legal fights at the very time they need it most. On top of that you've got all the other problems of not being able to make money from publishing any more. It looks like a perfect storm of financial trouble.

  it seems like mobilizing after the election, which seems pointless.

  i keep hearing demands for equal rights but don't understand what rights they are missing exactly.. normally a march is to show the support (and potential votes) for a cause, but ... votes for what?

  ... and the election happened already.. is anyone else confused?

  bohm it's almost comical if it weren't so frightening. To lie about how many were at the inauguration when eveyone can see the pictures. This is pathological behaviour.

  Surely no one will be laughing, neither his defenders nor opponents, when he starts lying about stuff like: detaining opponents he calls "security threats", claiming other nations have committed hostile acts needing retaliation, who is behind terror attacks, intelligence he has received.
