Ok, now I know why you atheists get so spittin' mad at some believers.
by Julia Orwell incuz they feel like they're banging their heads against a wall.. i don't really fall into the category of atheist or believer, but i'll go where the facts lead me.
that generally leads to atheism, and is why atheists end up getting mad and therefore rude at believers: they will lay out facts, raise questions, play devil's advocate, and reason in an evidence-based, structured way.
i've seen it many times before on this forum.

I looked up the defintion of an apostate and found a possible tactic in talking to a JW.
by 5go inassuming they converted to being a jw that is.
because simply converting reigions or changing one's beliefs makes one an apostate by defintion.. just though i would bring that up..

Good. This reception answers and quenches an anxiety I had over using JWN too much as a crutch during this period of working on grad level astronomy computer codes. The amount of room in the universe under the JW umbrella is very limited, and you do really have to fit to stay inside that umbrella. During these three or four months I have downloaded a lot of news about what JWs are doing in JW world, which includes the resort/retreat, the simplification of literature, and juicy details of how the real estate empire works. The single thing I hope to have uploaded to the visitors is that getting out after, or long after, the prime of your human youth does not eliminate you in what you aspire to. I can only hope that during these months I have bled pain much less than 8 years ago when I first came here. Putting pain in context so you can communicate some lesson comes only with time. Enough from me, for now. Thank you for the lols.

Thank you for providing a remotely plausible explanation of the observables.

This is so simple a caveman can understand. Anyone who stands up against lies, anyong who takes a stand against lies, anyone who turns away from lies, anyone who refuses to keep hearing lies, anyone who seeks truth, is defined by the cult as an "apostate". As in, quote marks. As in, it is their definition. As in, you will not find "apostate" in the wild. As in, "apostate" does not exist. As in, "apostate" is a construction fabricated entirely from a resentment at being found out. Geico caveman has already gotten bored to tears with "apostate". It is an epithet that cannot be recuperated, appropriated, recalibrated, renovated. Geico caveman really wishes some classical wiseacre schooled in latin or greek would come up with a derogatory term that translates to "stands for truth" or "stands for fact". Words have power and that's how TWS stays in power. Bending, twisting, casting, throwing, heaving words.

If all ''faders'' abruptly left the Watchtower and made no effort to hide the reasons why, what affect, if any, do you think it would make on the congregations?
by ThomasCovenant inwhen you're part of a lovely big group of people who all seem to be happy in their beliefs, it's easier to quell your own doubts.
if i was the only person left in the congregation who still went on the door to door work, because every body else had stopped going , having said out loud what most think, ''it's a waste of time'', how long do you think before i too would cease going door to door?.
i know from my own perspective that having lots of fellow witnesses around me, steered me into making life changing decisions.

Jehovahs Witnesses live in a " RELIGIOUS TOTALITARIAN " regime
by smiddy inno wonder they have a very high turnover of dis-satisfied members , a high number of suicides compared to mainstream religions , a high number of phsychological disorders among members .. totalitarianism is something we normally associate with political regimes , communism , fascism ,etc.etc.. it should also apply to reigions that have "high control "strategys , that keep the members cocooned in their beleif system.. discouraging members from getting information outside their control.
as though information is wrong .
you should be able ,using your god given brain to decide whether information you receive is beneficial or not .

Prisoners Dilemma. It would be interesting if sufficient network developed where faders could have the opposite of a flashmob. That is, a flash-fade, or a flash-absense. Later, enhance the network of faders with a website where scores are tallied of how many meetings ditched, how many service days ditched, etc. Use technology.
