Where Do You NOW Think Wickedness Comes From? The Devil or... ?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini think wickedness comes from evil people.. there are many people in between the two extremes of, overly good people and overly evil persons.. i do not believe in a devil.. i think he is a concept dreampt up by evil ones to blame bad behavior, as a red herring, on anyone but themselves.. the watchtower makes up attrocious lies, brow beats good people not to better themselves,.
all the while, they are building their own empire.. they say, do not isiolate yourself.
it is not good for you.. but if you don't agree with them and their current teachings, you will be shunned, disfellowshipped.. that can and does, have earth shattering results.. so many things, i was taught as a born in, are now considered apostate teachings.

Are we alone?
by Xanthippe inthe title of this thread is the title of a chapter in the book by richard dawkins that i'm really enjoying in spite of or perhaps because of it having been written for young people.
i thought i would share a couple of paragraphs on his theories of the kind of bodies aliens on other planets might have :-.

Cosmological principle, homogeny, isotropy. That being said, when I was gorging on cosmology years ago there were enough (unproveable, of course) hypotheses that just because our own Hubble volume displays a topological flatness, and the recent Planck results have refined the flatness to (iirc) one in ten thousandths from the critical value, that doesn't mean it is impossible for our local Hubble volume to be a flatness in an otherwise topologically featured surface. As far as our depth of perception into our Hubble volume, ending at the CMB polarization, the cosmological principle holds. The angular scale of the baryon accoustic oscillations (~1.5Mpc iirc) have validated or backed up redshift findings, and both have been backed up by -???- calculations of baryogenesis total energy release as compared to Planck spectrum/intensity of CMB, as well as the lithium:helium:hydrogren:deuterium ratios to be found in the ISM and IGM, i.e., virgin gas from the HYPOTHETICAL big bang that has not had its metalicity increased/altered by stellar cycling.
As for life: The universe has made alcohol all on its own.

"I don't know what your age is but you sound like an oldschool scientist. They treat science like a religion and indiviuals such as Einstein, Newton, and Darwin are promoted to sainthood. Anyone who dares to disagree with them is banish from the community, literally. That's exactly why happened to Halton Arp"

"The big bang has been disproven."
uh
Xanthippe, that's a nice reading level for K12. Maybe if you wrap a copy of it in the cover of My Book of Bible Stories, the JW parents might mistakenly bequeath their children some accurate knowledge.

I couldn't raise a good amount of indignation reading the Dinah story (at 40 yo) in My Book of Bible Studies, because it rather just came across as, "Well, this is stupid."
And because of the stupid argumentation of the text itself, I have a hard time being persuaded that the book itself had a great power to overcome young people's minds. Rather, I believe, it was the air that young JWs breathed in from their parents that formed the basis from which they grew up mentally, emotionally, etc, mal-adjusted. I would be rating a young specimen of species homo sapiens very very low if I thought for a second that letting that child alone with My Book of Bible Stories would cause irreparable harm. I would say the book itself is merely a symptom of the malady or evidence of the bankruptcy. I would agree with allergic reactions to the book in that context. The book itself? It's just stupid. Stupider, I say, than a young reading person can be fooled by. Even, I think, if that's all the young person has to read. It REQUIRES a parent to pound these points of crap into their head.
Thank you for the exegesis, Adamah.

Is there a free web version of My Book of Bible Stories? I mentioned it, out of a recollection of 20+ years ago, with something approching toleration, and this site gave me nine yards of anti-aircraft fire. Which tells me, ah, perhaps I would have to go back, as an adult, and re-read this thing to know where all this allergic reaction comes from. I do not recall the nuanced arguments of the text.

"Why would everyone be included this time...unless something special is about to happen?"
by Separation of Powers inso, i am talking to a long time friend, you know, the non-judgmental type that doesn't really mind that i don't go to many meetings and am never out in service.
he tells me that the annual meeting is coming up and that the whole congregation is invited...well, at least the active "approved" whole congregation.
he speaks with an excitement that puzzles me, like he just got invited to the locker room of his favorite football team when they won the superbowl.

"racket and snare".
Hm, your usage is an example of Russian philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin, who formulated the process, "to make strange".
Now all I can see is a snare drum and a tennis racket.

New Light not accepted by all..
by Dis-Member ini came across 3 very long serving regular pioneers today in the street.
they are out preaching full time ever day.
they are at the forefront and spearhead the teaching of jehovah's witnesses on ground level.

"proof that even dedicated WT workers do not read their mags as they come. (not eager for food at the right now time).
They study at the last moment. in the second hour of the sunday meeting.
The "FDS sans apostles" idea "we love", will be only studied at the coming meetings."
I confess I am not a practising JWologist, one who scientifically studies JWs ('dubologist', vernacular).
But this point you raise is more eye-popping than anything I've cobbled together about the recent change.
Are you saying that they are saying that all the apostles from the New Testament have been kicked out of the heavenly 144,000 club?
